About the Author/Game
This game’s been my quarantine side-project since about June of 2020, where I decided to roll up my sleeves and actually finish a game idea of reasonable size and scope. The Throne of Bernicia is a fond homage to the RPGs of my youth, pretty much played straight and without any big twist on the formula. It was a whole lot of fun to work on, and hopefully you’ll have fun playing it too!
Credits & Attribution
This game was made using Kadokawa/Enterbrain’s RPG Maker MV, mostly with the stock assets that came with the program. Additional assets and code came from hiddenone, Avery, Jack Saintsworth, Verdibona, Palxan, Victor Moura, and Yanfly, all of whom (to the best of my knowledge) released these assets for use in non-commercial works like this. All rights to these materials belong to their respective owners. If I have made any error in my attribution or any asset made its way into the final game whose owner was not credited here, please contact me ASAP so that I might make a correction.
Special thanks to Dominique Corbett for the title art, logo, and extensive game testing!

The Throne of Bernicia is a delightful, charming, classic rpg. Entertaining and simple, I found myself eager to get back in and progress every time I stepped away. I highly suggest this for anyone thinking about making an rpgmaker title of their own, as it is a poster child for the kind of engaging work that can be made using stock or community assets; and of course anyone wanting a low-stakes but rewarding turn-based rpg to play.
I was able to get more than ten hours of enjoyment out of it (my long playtime is because I left it running overnight a few times, a bad habit of mine) while pattering around and completing all sidequests. You won't find any revolutionary takes on the genre; but there are a few interesting things to find, solid writing, horse jokes, and memorable characters, fools!
The second half does have some rough edges - typos and syntax errors begin cropping up, one sidequest couldn't be completed to satisfaction despite meeting the requirements (the necromancy tomes), and one or two collision issues, a classic bug for rpgmaker titles. None of it is gamebreaking.
It is also not particularly challenging, as by midgame you will be well-equipped to handle any encounter. The economy - for XP and gold both - is quite generous: while your characters stop gaining new skills around level 25, I entered the final boss fight with them all at level 40. I don't consider this a negative at all, and if you find encounters becoming more annoying than they're worth, you'll have plenty of funds to purchase consumables that protect you from random encounters; just know you won't have your socks blown off by any of the fights.
All in all, this is a solid recommend, and by the time any issues rear their head, you will be thoroughly invested and determined to finish the game.
