Legends of Eisenwald is an adventure game with tactical battles, RPG and strategy elements. Take the lead of a small feudal army and try to defend your right to survive in this ruthless medieval world. The mysterious lands of old Germany are waiting for you – it's a land where the superstitions of the time have come to life. This isn’t a fantasy game. There are no elves or dragons here. There are only people – and their passions, sins and fears that often take a tangible form. Which path will you choose? Live according to your conscience? Or live by power and might? Or will you live by justice? And what is your justice, really?

I put Legends of Eisenwald on my backlog at first, because I was in disagreement with its weird movement system, but then, I realized several things:
- It is a buffed up Disciples-like game, with more positionning options and much less AoE/magic. It is more about preparing the battle than going through it.
- The almost historical setting makes it one of the only games that feels a bit like Darklands
- It has a great soundtrack
As in Disciples, the decisions are about how to tackle the map as a whole, and avoid getting into fights you cannot win before the time is right.
You can temporarily buff your own party by recruiting mercenaries, which makes passing "campaign chokepoints" a bit more manageable, but they drain your funds so quickly that it is not advisable to keep them for too long.
There are a few issues of the game trolling you by taking away things between chapters, so you should definitely savescum your way through these.
I'm glad I eventually came back ot this game, because Disciple Darklands is a great match, and the game has an unique charm.

A little clunky at times, but an excellent turn-based strategy rpg set in a medieval Germany/ Holy Roman Empire world.

I don't suppose many people are lining up to buy Legends of Eisenwald but 10 years ago I couldn't get enough of it.
I'm going to lie if I say I remember any of the major selling points but it was cool and great quality even for only access.
Me from 10 years ago though this game was simply amazing, and I thing some of this magic can still be there for somebody to discover.

I love this game. I first played Legend of Eisenwald on GOG a few years ago and had a great time—now I'm happy to revisit it here on Steam.
The story and quests are easily a 10/10. They're rich, detailed, and genuinely engaging. It's hard to find a story like this in today's games—grounded, well-written, and immersive from start to finish.
Combat and equipment are solid too—8/10. The turn-based battles are tactical without being overly complicated, and there's a nice progression with units and gear, even if it’s not super flashy.
But honestly, the main reason I love this game is the story. That’s the heart of it. If you're looking for something with strong narrative, medieval atmosphere, and satisfying strategy elements, this one’s absolutely worth your time.
