The Last Starship
The Last Starship is the latest video game from acclaimed Indie developer and creator of Prison Architect, Introversion Software. Start with an empty starship hull and fit her out with propulsion, life-support, weapons and FTL drive, before blasting off into the galaxy to test your design against a range of procedurally generated missions. Build a massive asteroid mining operation; rescue civilians from a transport with a critical engine failure, or build an armada and pick a fight with the pirates who plague the galaxy!
The Last Starship is currently in a closed Playtest on Steam. Expect the experience to be glitchy and incomplete, with placeholder art and sound. Regular updates will be released containing content drops, bug fixes and updates based on your feedback. We need your help to make our vision a reality and Introversion pledges never to charge you for any future update.

The Last Starship provides a much more immediate and linear gameplay compared to its direct inspirations. It features lite elements from factorio and its kind, x4 foundations' automation of fleet logistics management and a heavy inspiration from Cosmoteer's ship building and combat wrapped up with the pleasant aesthetic of Rimworld.
I just wish there were more content and variety within it.

game is good...but for a 1.0 update i had hopes for more then just a 3 mb update, like new guns, new items for the ship stuff like this

There is a lot to like about this game, but there is also a lot to not like. I like the ship building and missions, running passengers and cargo around the galaxy and what not even mining and smelting to make components. Then after I have spent hours upon hours on a save and I have a nice multi role battle ship i jump into a sector and the game comes to a halt and my crew goes into full blown slow motion, while the NPC ships have fired multiple shots at my ship(s) and my ships are struggling to get off a shot, my power grid will choose this moment to fail even though it has way more energy than it would ever need, and all of a sudden my ship(s) get destroyed and my only option is to start a new save even though i have 30 or 40 million credits sitting that i could easily buy a new ship with at a shipyard. Now before you say don't play on a potato I have a 12 core 4ghz processor with 64gb of RAM and a 12gb video card. I can run much bigger games on ultra setting with no stutter. This game isn't optimized, they force fighting on you, the battle part of this game is THE WORST PART of this game. I have played this game since day one. I was on it play minutes after it released, and I have watched the devs work with the community and make many changes and improvements. I have never liked the battles in this game. I have never thought it had good battle mechanics. The last update the DEVS in their infinite quest to mess up the game thought it would be a good idea to make battling pirates a requirement to advance through jump gates to the next sector. I you like doing the same thing over and over again and putting 50+ hours into a save to have faulty game mechanics force you to loose all that effort then this is your game. Some people like getting kicked in the nuts repeatedly, and they will enjoy this struggle. I don't! I play games to relax after work, I don't want a game that's a second F'ing job. I CAN NOT recommend this game. If I could refund with 354 hours of game play I would, but all I can do is uninstall it and let it hold a spot in my library till the devs one day have their heads removed from their asses, and they FIX this game.

It's a fun game! Oddly addictive in ways. The graphics style is similar to those like rimworld, or prison architect.
You have a lot of freedom with your ship builds. The systems connect in somewhat intuitive ways, very similar (surprise) to prison architect. Campaign is cool, survival mode for a more challenging experience, akin to FTL where you are outrunning a bad thing and trying to save who you can along the way.
They even have a bit of automation that you can get into if you desire, complete with belts and grabbers. It's not terribly complex, but has enough complexity to be interesting and provide hours of enjoyment.

It's suddenly 4am, I been playing nearly 9 hours straight. Can I just say This is a brilliant game. I haven't been this addicted to something since civ6.
I love the art style, I am enjoying the quests Currently sorting out stage 4 of the main quest and just really enjoying the factory side of things working out the balancing. I am yet to delve into combat, but I have my miner working away, my gas collector also working away, my factory space station working away and my starter ship is bouncing around doing transport jobs, rescues and deliveries, whilst collecting with the hydro scoop. I should really get to bed but I just want to keep playing.
The only issues I have with the game, a very tiny nit pick and one little bug. My nit pick, I would love more music. What is there is really nice. It is just a shame there is not much of it. The bug I had was a minor thing and fixed with a quick save and reboot of the game. For some reason every 4 hours, the alignment of the cursor to the UI seems to go right out of line. so I will find myself needing to hover a little under the button I am trying to click on.
This is not game breaking in the slightest and takes only 1 min to fix with a quick restart of the game.
I can see many hours being put into this over the coming days. Just what I needed whilst I recover from an abdominal operation I had.

I want to start by saying that this game still needs a lot of work. There’s definitely fun to be had, and on the surface everything appears to function correctly. However, once you get deeper into it, you begin to notice issues. As someone who enjoys automation-focused games, these problems stand out quite clearly.
The two most frustrating issues for me relate to logistics and performance. First, crews frequently pick items off rails and move them to storage areas because the robot arms transfer items from the rails to assemblers too slowly to override their collection AI. This causes storage areas to fill up unnecessarily and requires constant manual intervention. Second, performance drops significantly with crews larger than about 40—FPS can fall to around 15 on maximum speed, which severely impacts gameplay.
Beyond the bugs, there are also several quality-of-life shortcomings. There’s no copy-and-paste functionality for settings on containers, assemblers, etc, which makes configuring large systems extremely tedious. Additionally, there’s no “produce until X is in storage” option, meaning automation setups can’t maintain automatic stock levels of items... Which sucks big time.
There are many other issues I could list, but I don’t want to give the wrong impression. The game is good and worth its price, and there’s real enjoyment to be found here. It just feels like it could become much better with a bit more time and polish. It needs put back in the oven.

One of my favorite games already and it's not even finished!
A good mix of FTL/Space Haven/Rimworld/Avorion, i'd say. At least i enjoyed all of them and this hits the right spots.
You can build multiple ships and either fight or enhance your industry.
You can have stations and miners. It got all the nice things.
I feel like it still needs some features, some content, more customization, etc. But it's already worth to buy and play!
