Ova Magica
You’re newly arrived in Clover Town! Get to know the locals, enjoy the beauty and culture of Clover Town, and befriend cute little blob creatures as you build your future.Main features
You can grow everything from normal crops, berry bushes, and fruit trees, to heart fruit, weird herbs, and mushrooms from other dimensions! From your harvest you can cook high-quality food for your blobs to help them grow healthy and strong. Or alternatively, test your skills as a trader and sell them on the local market in Clover Town!
Blobs hatch from eggs and it’s up to you to train them! To make your blobs stronger, you need to feed them well and give them lots of love! Pay attention to their favourite foods, and play with them often to deepen your bond!
They come in many colors and shapes, and can be of the Forest, Storm or Magma type. In the world of Ova Magica, people live side by side with these cute creatures, and you can raise them to be strong, loyal friends and sidekicks! To make your blobs stronger, you must feed them well, pet them and use specific skills in battles.
Your blobs can also help you with your farm work. As your blobs become stronger and more skilled, you can ask them to perform certain scheduled tasks for you to increase your productivity! For example, you can ask the turtle blob to take care of a section of your farm to water it every day. But be careful! Don’t overwork them or take advantage of them… and if they get hungry, they won’t work!
You can make friends and build relationships with different characters. Talking, battling and gifting increases your friendship and unlocks new events, places and more. There are wonderful stories you can experience! Through conversations, gifts and blob battles you can increase your friendship. This will unlock numerous events and quests that will let you get to know the characters better!
Fight against other trainers and wild blobs. Experience a strategic Active Time Battle system with a little twist! Attacks throw you back to the ATB bar and can even cancel your current action. Think carefully when it’s time to defend, and when to attack. Also be sure to plan to use the right skill type to gain elementary advantages!
To find rare blob eggs, legendary items, and rare crafting materials, you’ll need to go on expeditions into the blob worlds. You can summon portals by placing an item on the altar! These dungeons change every time you enter them! In the end, a strong blob Emperor boss guards the rare eggs. A tough battle awaits you!
Grow stronger and unique blobs! You can crossbreed all blobs!
Create your dream team and become the strongest trainer.
Enjoy many wholesome activities and things to do around Clover Town! You can work on your fishing skills, or catch some bugs. Mine some ore to build a few parts for your juicing machine, or perhaps you’d like to pop by the Blob League to get the latest news on the latest tournaments?
Gather resources to create new items with the workbench and decorate your farm and home! On your adventures you’ll find many blueprints to decorate your farm and home! Some of these will help you to refine or process materials you couldn’t before, like the furnace or juicer, or grow exotic and weird new crops, help your productivity or just let you relax in comfort!

TL;DR
Ova Magica has charmed me with its clever mix of creature-based RPG and farm-sim. The game is well thought out and made with obvious care. And it has its own twists!
Creature raising/fighting, farming and socializing are the 3 cores that make this game whole. Each aspect supports the others, encouraging players to alternate between different objectives and giving them choices in how to progress.
BLOB
Smart progression system: discovering new blobs usually means unlocking new abilities (making farming, socializing or combat easier or even opening up new areas). It makes you want to catch them all!
Multiple ways to get stronger
… but be aware the system might confuse you at first. You’ll get the hang of if soon though! (you essentially build the strength of your blobs by using certain skills they have, it’s unfamiliar but nice)
Battles are engaging (choices have to be made, you don’t just apply the same strategy over and over) but not harsh after you learn how the game works
SOCIALIZATION
The characters were my main reserve when I played the demo. They felt generic. And I still think the beginning lacks appeal BUT: as you progress relationship (1 heart = 1 event) you uncover more and more nuances to the characters. Each goes through difficult events and learns to find their own strength. It’s a nice theme (another connected one is bad parenting (parents being neglectful, hostile or absent) which is astute in a game about raising (creatures) ).
Valuable in more than one way: gift, unlocking progression and building, or teaming up!
Easy enough but it still feels earned
No gift-giving mechanic (so relaxing... You can play without a wiki open)
FARMING
Progression system: What to buy ? What to focus on today ?
Quality of life features
Not the main focus: you can make money farming don’t get me wrong, but I found it more rewarding to go into blob worlds for money and other resources
Bonus point: Customization
Player’s appearance, house, yada yada, farm layout (it’s easy to do!)
Breeding to satisfy your own beauty standard is completely acceptable: I personally go for very silly looking combinations and I’m very pleased to report that you can have very strong, very useful and completely foolish-looking blobs to help you in all your endeavors!
This game is smart with its strengths: there are nice gamaplay loops with creature raising/fighting mechanics interacting with social and farm ones. You want stronger blobs? Battle residents. They like you better, you win and gain a reward like money, energy or a resource you can use for your farming endeavors. Also, now residents are stronger and you can take them with you to blob worlds. It will be easier to progress further and gain more resources for your farm, they will like you better, then you can unlock more stuff, etc.
Ova Magica is fun, kind, relaxing, engaging and simply a well made game. It has a demo (save carry over full game), the devs are careful of feedbacks, the game has lot of content and I will say it one more time: silly-cute looking creatures!

Heads up it is a slow grind, the battling is fun but the leveling is a bit of a struggle (I may be doing something wrong) I do recommend it if you like a game that will have you sat and learning. there are a few balance issues but again its a slow grind! the art style took me a minute to adjust to. Im looking forward to whats to come.

I just want to tell the Developers, I absolutely love everything about this game and I am so happy that I found it. Thank you so much for this diamond in the rough state that gaming is in right now. This is exactly what I needed. I hope every creature collecting gamer gets a chance to play this masterpiece. 🙏🏻

This game is amazing and is currently tied for my favorite game of the year next to Fantasy Life! There wasn't one moment where I was bored there was always something happening or something to work on in the game. Everything from the events to the character stories and more are all so well done and there is a ton of content in early release to make it worth diving into before the full release. 10/10 and works like a dream on the steamdeck. I can't wait until the full release update comes out!!!! ♥♥♥

Really lovely game, however doing any task takes too much energy when you don't have a lot to start with. I am 5 hours in and this is still really frustrating, it reduces the enjoyment of a really nice game, perhaps this could be improved

I have been no life-ing this game (even ask my boyfriend LOL). I absolutely LOVE this game.
It's cute, has a lot of content for a game in Early Access, and the beginner guides help SO much when you're trying to figure out how to start the game efficiently to where you won't feel so behind as the seasons progress. I HIGHLY recommend checking them out (when you're in the game --> SHIFT+TAB, steam overlay will open --> go to the bottom where there is a Book looking icon with an "A" in it. This brings up guides, like the beginner ones I have been utilizing if I felt stuck.)
My biggest "grievance" that I did agree with after reading some other reviews were the economy balance issues or the time for respawning/refresh of certain resources. For example, if you need glass for anything, you need coal and sand. If you have not unlocked the 2nd Blob world, you only have the beach for that resource (sand). So you can maybe get 5-7 glass a week in game and that's IF you get enough coal in the beginning through grinding out rocks that your pickaxe is capable of breaking. I started a 2nd save using that I learned with my initial file and it still took me the whole first season to get enough coal to make any progress with glass, copper bars, or anything else needed.
Regarding the cost of food early on or needing blueprints to progress, I have discovered some ways to make money early on but I do notice if you're not careful, it can hurt you in the long run.
I have some other concerns of the balance with some of the blobs early on, but I do not want to address them publicly here in the event it spoils it for someone else who would rather play the game organically when reading the review for possible mechanical concerns it involves boss blobs
If you enjoy farming/life sims, games similar to palworld/pokemen where you have blobs as pals, heart events like what Coral Island, Sun Haven, and Stardew Valley has, exploring through mines, and even little cute mini games, this is the game for you!
I am hoping the dev(s) of this game can provide some type of future content roadmap (with estimated dates/timeline would be wonderful!) with the community so we can also anticipate future content being added to the game (like, when we progress past level 5 friendships in the game, and others I won't add here to prevent spoilers from being leaked).
I did check Twitter and saw some great posts for the future 1.0 release, but I did not see a roadmap, which I know the person who created this game has mostly done this solo and can be a challenge to juggle so many tasks when also trying to finish the game for full release.

This game is already amazing and full of content despite it being in Early Access.
It's what it says on the tin: Stardew/Harvest Moon meets Pokémon (meets Slime Rancher?) and tons of cozy fun, but the best part is that you can tell how much love has been put into its creation and details. The nicest surprise to me is that this game has surprisingly good writing, for a type of game that usually doesn't have, or arguably even *need* good writing. Every character is quite charming and their story arcs don't feel basic or bland, like so many other cashgrab games in this genre. This one is not that: it feels like a genuine labor of love, full of little cute and fun details to discover and unlock. Crafting is fun, customization is fun, exploring is fun.
Honestly, there's no better testament to this game's quality than the fact that I didn't ADHD away after one session, lol. Give the demo a try! I did and immediately after I bought the game for full price, which I almost never do, because it's worth it.
Happy cozy gaming :)
