My opinion on the game is unfortunately more mixed than positive. But Brigandine is really the type of game, that you can easily spend 100s of hours into if it clicks with you. Sadly, it didn't quite go that way for me.
I bought this game thinking it would scratch my itch for a Fire Emblem game, and it sort of does in a minimal way. I really like the art-style and the general concept of conquering and maintaining the land. But all this game offers is conquest and battles, you really don't feel like you control all those lands since you don't use or do anything with it. Story is also close to nonexistent, since it occurs randomly. And by the time story progresses, it's more than likely for you to even forget the previous plot point.
Although battle systems are supposed to be fun in a game like this, I never really enjoyed the battles. Since the progression just feels like it's on a snail's phase. And I say this as someone who is neutral to EXP distribution of Fire Emblem games. The amount of EXP you get in this game is really not worth all the trouble, especially because of the possible loss of units in battles. The unit variety is extremely limited as well, I'm not even sure why the game claims there are 40 monsters. There is only about 10 and the rest of them are reskinned versions. In fact, if you are playing with just the strongest units, all you have are 2-3 variety of monsters.
I really respect Brigandine for being one of the older SRPG / TRPG series. Buts sadly this was my experience, in possibly the last game in a series that will probably never leave the purgatory state.
Hopefully Brigandine ends up having a revival, and we end up with a great game. Because the potential really is there.

Everything I wanted is here. It's Brigandine GE in a modern engine with a good translation. It's mostly the same mechanics refined so you'll feel right at ease if you've played this PSX title before. I will play many hundred hours of this, I strongly recommend this to any strategy turn based players.
The only thing I don't like about this is that the Rune Knights and story is less solid than in GE. You love and hate more characters in Brigandine GE, you get to know all the nice nations in depth. This is less interesting but it's still OK.
The music is also somewhat weaker, but still OK.

Initially I was skeptical and didn't like how LoR is because it didn't feel "Brigandine" enough. Alot of stuffs are changed and startup feels so different (especially when your first gameplay is as the nation with no Brigandine). But after doing one playthrough, I can start to see that it has the same feel. Sure it's not exact LoF/GE feel, but it's Brigandine. Setting up difficulties and other modes are fun, definitely a challenge if you cleared the original stories on highest difficulty.
Story and interaction (and of course, BGMs) are not the best (LoF BGMs are still the best imo). Art is, personally I'd say not-so-polished but I guess it's more to preference and/or the vibe they want to create.
It's too bad that the game probably won't get any updates because there are not many fans of Brigandine, but it will always be one of SRPG games I enjoy.

This game would be so much better if the forces in the tactical combat parts started closer to each other. That first three turns of moving troops is a chore.

This is a really good and faithful sequel. I watched my monsters make a name for themselves and grow into legends. It got me invested and sucked me in just like Legend of Forsena did when I was young. I had my doubts going in that they, we, could capture that feeling again. I'm happy to say the more I played the more I felt like I had jumped into a time machine. Thank you for bringing the magic back for me one more time.

One of the most striking aspects of this game is its stunning graphics, with rich details and well-designed characters. Its battle system is also engaging, offering many different strategies and allowing players to experience true tactical depth.
Moreover, the story is compelling, with an exciting plot and interesting characters to follow. The various factions add depth to the game world, giving players plenty of choices to explore its narrative. The complex kingdom management system also adds an intriguing strategic element, allowing players to feel the true responsibility of leadership.
Overall, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is an outstanding game for fans of strategy and fantasy. engaging battle systems, and a deep story, this game offers a satisfying and enjoyable experience.
