Joe's journey is a tragic exploration of love and loss. His descent into madness is portrayed with a raw honesty that elicits both sympathy and unease. It's a stark reminder of the fragility of the human mind. Puzzles are integrated seamlessly into the narrative, thus they enhance the storytelling rather than detract from it, maintaining the game's immersive experience.
In essence, Downfall is a disturbing, thought-provoking narrative that, while not reaching the heights of The Cat Lady, stands as a remarkable story in its own right. It's a descent into the macabre that leaves an indelible mark on the player's psyche. BUY!

Insanely good game. Be warned if you struggle with an ED. The very first conversation between Ivy and Joe already triggered me ("normal" people probably won't find anything noticeable about it). Love this game, this series. Next up is "Lorelai"!

Incredibly atmospheric psychological horror in 2D.
I don't usually play games of this genre, but as soon as I saw the screenshots, I instantly wanted to play. The game's stunning visuals immediately grab your attention: the backgrounds, foregrounds, and perspective of the objects on the screen, all of this perfectly reflect the outstanding art style. Complementing this are cool animations, light work and high-quality creepy cutscenes. All of this combines to make for an unbelievably suspenseful horror atmosphere.
On top of that, the atmosphere is also well influenced by the sounds and soundtrack, which fit the game perfectly, and some scenes send chills down your spine. The immersiveness is one of the best parts of Downfall.
The plot of the game is intriguing and complicated. It gives you the opportunity to interpret the story in different ways. The characters are well written, the main character is empathize with.
It's really cool that a game like this has funny and heartfelt dialog that you can laugh at. It makes you sympathize with the characters even better.
I will pay special attention to the voicing of the characters - it's wonderful. Every line is voiced just amazingly. I enjoyed every dialog in this game. You can hear how the actors put their soul into the voice acting.
The gameplay is simple and clear. You have to walk around the location, listen to dialog and solve fairly simple puzzles. This completely suits Downfall.
I recommend this game to check out primarily because of its great atmosphere. Over the course of a couple or three evenings, Downfall gives you completely different emotions, which makes it special.

I absolutely adore this game, would highly recommend. I can't tell you how many times I finished this game, still doesn't get me bored. The storyline is the one that makes me an addict of playing it. If you enjoy story based thrilling games, that's probably the one that you're looking for.

Great story. Fantastic artwork. Every background is setup in perfect hierarchy and chaotic/eerie harmony. The tunes are fantastic and give this horror game an in depth horror feel. Sound effects are on point as well. I always want Joe to be the best Joe he can be T ~ T...
(Pls.) Love your wife and cherish her forever.
Joe Davis beats James Sunderland as a husband any day. I said what I said.

Downfall is a direct continuation of The Cat Lady, and by that means, it maintains the main qualities and characteristics of the first game. Both explore the dark and introspective themes of mental illness, the human condition, and personal suffering, told through a complex, non-linear narrative filled with grotesque and horrific symbolism. At the same time, Downfall presents a different perspective with a new character, who has traits and objectives that starkly contrast with The Cat Lady's protagonist, Susan Ashworth.
Following the themes of The Cat Lady, Downfall delves into the struggles within relationships, exploring deeply personal aspects of the mind and self, such as trauma, mental illness, and eating disorders, while also allowing space for bittersweet hope and redemption. Unlike The Cat Lady, Downfall tones down the shock-value horror and surrealism, instead focusing more on the psychological and emotional representation of the characters through symbolism. The characters' personalities and traits are essential to understanding the game's story and ideas.
When compared to other great psychological horror games, Downfall clearly takes inspiration from Silent Hill 2. This influence is evident in how the game portrays and uses its complex storytelling to explore the psyche of the protagonist, Joe Davis, and his relationship with his wife, Ivy Davis. The game features a few puzzles that are inherently tied to understanding its themes and story. Like The Cat Lady, Downfall offers three different endings, all based on the choices you make throughout the game.
So, if you enjoyed the heavy, grotesque story and themes of The Cat Lady and want to explore more of the Devil Came Through Here universe, Downfall is obviously a must-play.
