Sheltered
STORY
"The Sheltered" is a top-down adventure game with an emphasis on exploration and decision making.
Players assume the role of a survivor in a world plagued by a deadly outbreak. The government announces their plans deal with monstrous infected by means of nuclear weapons. The plan: to bomb the area and eradicate everything. Lucky enough, there’s a fallout shelter in the player’s front yard – and enough food and water to last.
Now other survivors want in.
PREMISE
The main story begins once the hero has collected enough supplies to last himself in the shelter.
When other survivors show up, the player can decide who to bring into the shelter and who to leave outside. Survivors range from children to experienced adults that can offer the player help. The player can also bring animals into the shelter. Deciding who to save is the main premise of the game and will ultimately effect the ending.
However, it’s not enough to simply invite another survivor into the shelter. Each survivor requires additional supplies to last their stay. While the player only has enough for himself, he is free to explore the land and search for additional supplies. This is the adventure aspect of the game.
Combining old school graphics and simple gameplay with modern storytelling and a multitude of choices, "The Sheltered" pushes players to sacrifice their characters safety for their character’s morals.

This is the kind of game you can start playing out of innocent curiosity and then find yourself posting a review 397 hours later about how it's quickly become an addiction. The game play is simple enough to learn quickly and understand, but not so simple that it gets boring quickly. The scenario modes are interesting as well and hardcore mode adds enough frustration to make you want to rip your hair out in the best kind of way.

The most incredible moment I will cherish for the rest of my life was when my wife finally died of dehydration.
After a few days, to stop them from complaining about being hungry all the time I fed her body meat to my malnourished children.
After they died of food poisoning whilst cleaning up the mess they had made I went outside the shelter and just waited for the sweet release of death by radiation sickness, at least it was a relatively peaceful way to go and gave me plenty of time to contemplate my poor life choices.
The greatest revelation was being allowed to put your children to productive work like construction, home defence or going out into the wilderness to scavenge and fend for themselves instead of just being a constant useless financial and emotional drain.
I think the greatest takeaway from this game is that we should seriously consider relaxing our child labour laws.

Good concept but poor execution. Game feels dull, repetitive and lacks content after you reach a certain point. Still a decent time killer. Instead of making the second version of the game which has mostly negative comments they could have brought an expansion DLC to this and it would be have been much better. Still overall decent time killer for couple of days. Its one of those games that you want to rate "just meh" insted of upvote or downvoting. Will give it a thumbs up tho.

Hello Friends,
Today I will review the game SHELTERED. This is a post apocalyptic hard core survival game where you must survive as long as possible in a bunker. In this game, you can make and customize a family to start out. After that, you can recruit random people you meet while looking for supplies. Most of this game will be about trying to stay healthy while keeping all the needs of the characters alive. Due to the difficulty of this game, it is quite high on the hardcore game type scale on steam. According to steam, it is #9th in hardcore ranking.
In addition to keeping the people alive in the underground bunker, there is also customization and imrpoving the bunker as much as possible. Each upgrade can bring many new things to the bunker that help your characters survive. Also, your characters will go out and explore the world. This includes many dangers, including but not limited to dangerous people, dangerous animals, environmental dangers, traps, etc. All while out in the world, the characters must find supplies in order to improve the shelter. Originally, there was supposed to be more for the game, but due to where the developers live, certain real life events prevented this and the second game that was supposed to come out from this game. Anyways, here are my PROS and CONS lists:
PROS:
- A hardcore survival game where you must survive as long as possible.
- Have your survivots explore the world to find supplies to keep your group alive in the bunker.
- Due to the difficulty of this game, do not expect to live very long.
- There is no defined storyline, but depending on the players actions, the player themself make the story.
- Survival and Challenge modes. There are also specific scenarios too.
- Works on Windows 11 OS.
- Controller works, but must set it up everytime the game is started.
CONS:
- Do not bother looking at leaderboards as people have hacked the top spots like on many other games. Think of it more as a gimmick.
- Due to real life things, the developer no longer is working on this game or it's sequel.
- The graphics are very basic, but get the job done.
- Controller settings reset everytime a player starts a game, so you will need to set it up everytime.
Do i recommend this game? YES. Although quite difficult, it can be fun to see how long the player can keep the people alive in the game. This game is for a certain type of player who craves challenges and hardcore type of gameplay. Although do not expect any storyline or goals, as there is none. Only thing to do is keep the people alive in the bunker. If this is too hardcore, try Fallout Shelter. It is same type of game, but much easier to play and keep the people alive in the game.
