A Gem from the era when Ubisoft still made outstanding games and worlds.
Still worth playing in 2025.
Do not let this Game die!

I have completed this game in 2020 when Ubisoft gave it away for free. Later, I bought this game on sale on Steam as part of a collection but didn’t play much on Steam. It’s a third-person shooter focused on combat, cover mechanics, and gear upgrades. Stronger enemies require careful strategy, and skills are unlocked by improving your base. The game is well optimized and runs stably even on older systems.
The atmosphere is one of its highlights. Snow-covered streets, empty buildings, and small details like footprints make the world feel realistic. Music and sound design add to the immersive setting. Combat is solid, though the story and characters are less memorable. Endgame mostly focuses on collecting better gear, which may feel repetitive for some players.
Overall, it’s a well-made action RPG with strong gameplay, immersive environments, and stable performance.

its a shame they dont make games like this anymore . One of the reason i jumped to pc to play older games at better graphics and high fps. this game can be enjoyed solo or with a squad quite remarkable on how many player still play the game . great community within . people willing to help with harder levels if you agent struggles on higher tiers. worth playing even in 2025

Oh my god, where to start?
I guess i owe this game an apology, a big one. 10 years have passed and i slept on this so much. Atleast i'm glad i could grab it at 3 euros with the recent Ubisoft sales.
Speaking of which, i've had my fair share of experience with Ubi's game and not one single time i was amused or entertained after the golden age of the 2000s: Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon, Far Cry. All embarassingly easy and as wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle to me. Each and every game of above mentioned franchises are a cow's milk squeeze, rinse and repeat of the same boring stuff over and over again.
It offuscated my vision back then: when multitude of looter shooter games came out, somehow The Division ...divided gamers.
I've read many people hold from playing it because it reminded them of Covid a bit too much, while others (myself included) just disregarded as a "We've got 3rd person Borderlands at home!".
I was wrong, especially after trying Ghost Recon Wildlands (boy oh boy how boring is that game).
I bought The Division 1 (and 2 actually) on sale this Saturday's morning out of boredom and guess what, it's Sunday evening and i've got 12 hours registered already. I guess i'm having fun.
I see why it's so addicting to enter a dystopian, almost cyberpunk-esque Manhattan scattered and littered with collectibles, explorable buildings, quests, unlockable secret areas, achievements, challenges and base upgrades.
The environments and attention to detail regarding the set dressing is impressive even if, honestly, it's the last thing to complain about Ubisoft really.
Not a huge fan of the gear level but i don't hate it either: it's a blend of tps and rpg after all. I guess i'm too biased on pretending a realistic setting to function with realistic mechanics too, but now and then i remember it's just a videogame and in this particular case i think it works very well.
Now, i've also discovered that Arc Raiders was hugely inspired by The Division's pvp zones and i nod while thinking about my first statement of this review: yep, yep, i'm sorry The Division, you deserved more.

you get to roleplay as a socialist cia agent with an unquenchable bloodlust and morally extreme, binary, axiomatic belief system anchored towards saving good people and just killing anyone who is not a member of our shadow wizard money gang. truely the centrist political compass of video games. the dark zone also reminds me of cincinnati ohio
a modest 7/10

The game is great, in my opinion. If not, I wouldn't have played it for over 200 hours, completed all the Steam achievements, and had so much fun. This is the type of game you can simply open, play and relax, and/or also enjoy it with friends. People may say that no one plays the game anymore, but to me, that's not true, because I have made over 10 new friends playing this game (via the Steam discussion page and in-game), and that's a lot to me.
About the game: The world's environment is fantastic, the story is quite engaging and interesting (if you pay attention), and the gameplay and music are amazing. I absolutely enjoyed it and am happy I could experience it!
So, final words: "Definitely try it and have fun!"
