FROSTBITE: Deadly Climate
A lone Arctic Biologist ends up getting lost in a sudden snow storm and must take refuge in an arctic research base simply called Base 75. However, the base has no power (meaning no heat) and what’s worse it is clear he is not alone in Base 75.
Frostbite: Deadly Climate is a First-Person Survival-Horror game that takes heavy inspiration from John Carpenter’s The Thing in Setting/Story with gameplay similar to Resident Evil 7. Along with a heavy focus on Atmospheric/Psychological Horror over Cheap/Mindless Jumpscares.
Taking place in an arctic setting, players must watch their body temperature as it will slowly drain throughout. As the body temperature decreases the player will notice some negative effects and will even loose health if their body temp is at 0%.
Game Features
- Exploration, Item Management, Puzzles, and Combat is the primary gameplay.
- an Area Temperature system that can be affected by the players actions and in return affects the player character’s body temperature.
- 4 Difficulty Modes (Easy, Normal, Hard, and Nightmare).
- a Resident Evil inspired Save System that requires an item to save your game.
- a Silent Hill inspired Map system that marks open/lock doors and presents your current objective.
- And much, much more.

FROSTBITE: Deadly Climate is an okay and kind of interesting survival horror, zombie game, so the story. A biological researcher named Robert is in deep trouble, at first he was tracking a polar bear for research until a sudden snow storm hit unexpectedly, but luckily he was able to find a hut to take shelter in, only to discover there's no power. Now his only hope is to explore the adjoining research base and hope to find a way to survive the cold, but unbeknownst to him freezing to death is going to seem to be a more pleasant option for what awaits him inside.
Now then likes, the story is very good, most of it is told through notes except for the opening and ending about Robert which was good as notes gives you a good incentive to read/find out what is going on, while still leaving some of it to the imagination as well, it also takes a good bit of inspiration from John Carpenter's The Thing, while still doing its own thing which is also good.
The gameplay is okay basically you have to explore the research base finding key items so you can escape as well as solving light puzzles and fighting monsters, well also making sure you don't freeze to death which was an interesting concept. The combat was fine nothing to write home about and the puzzles were okay, nothing too complex.
The enemies and boss were very good I like the concept and look of the ice zombies; they were kind of disturbing the way they looked and breathed. The graphics were fine, with a good use of colors and shading and definitely good use of blue colors. The levels were okay, the research base feels quite distinct and looks like an actual research base.
The character was okay, he was serviceable, the music was fine nothing really to write home about. The notes are good while giving a good bit of insight of the people that worked here; it helps with the story, while still leaving something left to the imagination on of all this happened. I also like that this game was free as the game can be a bit short if you're not going after achievements.
Now then dislikes, there are some bugs in this game, but nothing really game breaking, but there is this one bug that was quite frustrating sometimes when I press the run button for some reason the character would do a turn instead of just running, it only happened with certain enemies and that one boss, I didn't really mind it, except when I was getting the last trophy which was beating the game on nightmare difficulty
Also some enemy placement can be a bit bunk like if you're not real careful like a certain door or if you go outside in the later half the game an enemy can get you, which was a bit annoying when I was trying to get the not hit achievement.
Also this one really annoying part there's a zombie on the roof, he's easily dodgable, but I ran into two problems with it. One when I got at the top of the radio tower and got the wires as I was going down the zombie was under the ladder which prevented me from going down and two after dodging him and getting the wires and was able to leave the rooftop when I went to save my game it wouldn't let me save saying there's an enemy nearby.
Now that I have told you this FROSTBITE: Deadly Climate is an okay and kind of interesting survival horror, zombie game, with a very good story, a very good enemies and boss and good notes, so if you're looking for a free survival horror game that takes inspiration from the thing this could be for you, especially since it's free.

Very atmospheric, probably intentionally reminiscent of John Carpenter's The Thing.
It's quite difficult, and a touch graphic, so maybe not one for younger players, but it's good and tense and plenty challenging.

I'd completely forgotten about this until I played a Multiplayer game that is *extremely* similar called "Nuclear Nightmare". This game is great for being a free game. If you have the time to kill and want to play something horror-themed and Sci-Fi plus you enjoy finding little notes and easter-eggs (like you would in Resident Evil or Silent Hill, etc.) then I'd say this is a game you wouldn't want to pass up. A heads-up though, it can be slow at times in terms of your character movement.

i thoroughly enjoyed. No actual complaints. Puzzles followed a straightforward "Solve this to get access to this, new puzzle there" linear style that I actually like because I am an idiot who is bad at puzzles. Monsters weren't inherently scary in design, but were threatening enough to make up for it IMO. Love the resi style save system, loved reading all the little notes and piecing stuff together.
Graphically simple but meh, who actually cares, it's a free indie game, that's not what's important; Besides, despite simple graphics, the environments were done very well and I never once felt that it lacked some sort of detail or level building.
This was great and I plan to check out the dev's other work.

This was a fun little game. Not really scary, just a few ice monster/people in certain spots. I can admire it's simplicity while also forcing you to keeping an eye on your health, body temperature and the room temperature. It also forces you to prioritize what specific chemical to make (health, stamina or heat drink).
My only issues are the fighting mechanics, most of the hits wouldn't register. Frequently. Shouldn't take me ten times to hit a dog. There were also points where (because I've played it over and over and knew where certain ones would spawn) the people weren't there? I guess?
While I'm sure it was just a bug, I completed Nightmare mode and when I did save I made sure to fill my heat and health before saving. When I had to resume the checkpoint, both were at half. Man, that made it even worse to do.

great little short horror! my only complaint would be that enemy hit registry is a little inconsistent (they only sometimes react to getting shot) but otherwise very good

Loved it! Need more games like it
