About the GameHello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor’s house to figure out what horrible secrets he’s hiding in the basement. You play against an advanced AI that learns from your every move. Really enjoying climbing through that backyard window? Expect a bear trap there. Sneaking through the front door? There’ll be cameras there soon. Trying to escape? The Neighbor will find a shortcut and catch you.
- Suspenseful horror gameplay that focuses on sneaking around your neighbor’s house
- Constantly evolving experience where the Neighbor’s AI counters your moves, and learns from what you do

How the hell is the first alpha of this game better then the actual release? It's kinda sad to see them fall off this hard on the official release. The game proceeded to get worse after alpha 2. Alpha 3 was the starting point where it become bad in my opinion. (Alpha 2 did carry the cartoon style with it but it was a fine alpha)

An Unnerving First Look Into a Suburban Nightmare
Hello Neighbor Alpha 1 is more than just an early prototype — it’s a compelling, if rough, glimpse into the strange, suspenseful world that would eventually become one of indie gaming’s most recognizable stealth-horror franchises. While it lacks the polish of a finished title, this alpha delivers something far more intriguing: raw tension, mystery, and the thrill of discovery.
At its core, Hello Neighbor Alpha 1 presents a simple but fascinating premise: break into your suspicious neighbor’s house and uncover what he’s hiding in his basement. It’s this minimalist setup that fuels the game’s atmosphere — there's no hand-holding, no obvious objectives, and no safety net. You’re left to rely on observation, creativity, and nerves of steel.
What made Alpha 1 stand out to early adopters was the intelligent AI system that, even in its initial form, showcased behavior beyond basic routines. The neighbor learns from your tactics — blocking off windows you frequently enter from, setting up traps, and adapting as you get bolder. For many, this reactive AI was groundbreaking, creating emergent gameplay moments that felt unique to each playthrough.
Despite its limited content, the level design encourages experimentation. Players are free to stack objects, explore alternate routes, and try unconventional methods to outsmart the neighbor. This sandbox-style freedom gave rise to countless memorable moments and community-driven discoveries, laying the groundwork for the puzzle-solving and replayability the series would later embrace.
Visually, the game already displayed a strong identity. The art style — bright yet unsettling — created a surreal tone that felt like a children's cartoon gone eerily off-script. Combined with unsettling sound cues and unexpected jump scares, Alpha 1 effectively walked the line between playful and creepy.
Yes, it’s unpolished. Bugs are present, and the experience is relatively short. But for many early players, that didn’t matter. What mattered was the sense of mystery — the thrill of creeping through quiet hallways, the shock of being caught at the last second, and the constant curiosity of what’s really behind that locked door.
Hello Neighbor Alpha 1 is a creative and tension-filled experiment that sparked a loyal fanbase and set the tone for what was to come. For players who value innovation and atmospheric storytelling over technical perfection, it remains a fascinating and memorable first chapter in the Neighbor saga.
