While Blockgeon isn't going to win any prizes for art, I was surprised at how mechanically sound it is. It blends a party of three adventurers, each with a color of red, green, or yellow, each capable of laying down a shape that eliminates falling blocks. They face off against monsters that have abilities to power up those blocks. Color matching eliminates blocks more easily, but the longer it takes to dispatch a boss, the more thickly the blocks fall. Blocks gain armor, fire, poison, and other qualities, depending on a boss' abilities. Luckily, each time the party dispatches a boss, one member can add a little more to the shape they use to take blocks off the board. Potions also help mitigate the boss' effects and attacks. That all adds up to some challenge through the ten rounds it takes to "clean the dungeon." There's also a few different adventurers (mostly distinguished by the shapes they can use) and a good amount of different bosses, ensuring that you can't see it all in one lucky run.
