As the world’s first spoken-word video game, Sapling packs a emotional punch in it’s brief and metaphorical story.
Sapling is a narrative-driven walking simulator game that tells the story of love, loss, and, hope – in not much more than 5 minutes of gameplay.
With calm narration, an original soundtrack, and a unique writing style, we hope this heart-breaking tale can be a part of your life, story, and healing.
Sapling has been described as wholesome, soulful, and kind – but maybe bittersweet is the right word

In general, walking sims can be short experiences but Sapling turns out to be the shortest I have every played. It really takes only a couple of minutes to complete and it offers no replay value, unfortunately. I assume this is something experimental and we can hear from bland man studios in the future once more.
Important items are a sapling and a flower in the story and their potential future. Such story is not everybody's cup of tea. I wish the hobbit-like dwelling can be entered into! It is not your usual walking sim but I think you can give it a try if you have a couple of minutes to spare.

A short tale about an oak tree and a flower, both sweet and a bit sad.
More of an "Experience" than a "Game". You have a small environment to walk around in while listening to the story, when one part is done you just walk over to the next glowing thing to continue.
It was only about 5-ish minutes to play through, and was very pleasant.
If a love story about potted plants sounds like your cup of tea, you'll probably enjoy it.

Positives:
+ Cute little "story"
+ Very calm and relaxing
+ Nice artstyle
+ Relaxing music
+ Good voiceover
+ Its free
Negatives:
- Almost nothing to do or see
- Extremely short length (they were not joking about 5 minutes)
If you feel stressed and need some minutes to calm down, play this game.

Cute little game. Yes, it's short, but that's okay. It's a very sweet story. I extended my play-time by watching the duck on the pond, wandering around, and taking a bunch of screenshots, haha. I tried to boundary-break the fence (a little) and failed, but I got on top of the house! XD Pity you can't go inside, but oh well.
Couple suggestions: It would be nice if there were keybind options. I am left-handed, and it makes WASD very awkward for me to use. It would have been better if I could use arrow keys to move around instead, but not a huge deal when the game is so short. Also, mouse sensitivity was awfully high, it would be helpful if there was a way to turn that down. Again not a huge deal for a 5-minute game, but anything longer, and it might get annoying, heh. Just some things you might want to keep in mind for future games. I'm certainly not going to complain when the game is free-to-play, though, haha.

-Graphics-
Simplistic but serves its purpose. Way too much going on with the duck pond though. It was distracting and took away from the experience. The pond needs to be brought back down to the same level of simplicity as the rest of the area.
-Mechanics-
WASD to move. You can't get much more simple than that. 'H' just opens a quick menu to quit and show a reminder of what WASD does.
-Sound-
The music is a short and repetitive set of cords. It's a calm accompaniment to the narrator. Otherwise, there are no other sounds and that is disappointing. It would have been nice to hear some footsteps, maybe a bit of a breeze rustling the trees nearby. A few, quiet quacks from the duck. Just some ambiance.
-Gameplay-
It's a walking sim. You walk to the highlighted areas to trigger the narrative. The walking animation is smooth.
-Story-
The narrator tells the simple story of an oak sapling and a flower sharing the same living space for a while before mutually agreeing to go their separate ways as a larger living space becomes imperative. The story honestly sounds like the developer is saying they are ok after a sad but agreeable goodbye. The end of a friendship, a divorce, a separation...who knows? I could see this being a nice short story for kids to teach them that endings, while sad sometimes, shouldn't be seen as bad.
-Overall-
The story itself is nice but could be developed a bit more and be longer. Narrator, you have a wonderful voice and a longer storytelling would be in your favor. It would have been nice to be taken around the garden more and really make use of the available space. There needs to be more ambient sounds to make the scene come more alive. It is extremely short as everyone is saying. The whole thing takes less than five minutes. The game size is 1.49G which is insane. Looking at the game files, the developer seems to have added in VR support capabilities but the game itself is not VR compatible. Someone would need to test this to confirm it but there seems to be unnecessary files included in the game since it honestly shouldn't be such a large download. I believe the water graphics are also a culprit in this.
All-in-all though, while it really has no replay value and is excruciatingly short, it was not a bad experience. I neither recommend nor do I not recommend giving it a try. It is a neutral recommendation but STEAM makes me choose. I'd say my feelings about this experience are more positive than negative.
