Tactical Squad-Based Combat comes to the Fallout® Universe!
You are the wretched refuse. You may be born from dirt, but we will forge you into steel. You will learn to bend; if not you, will you break. In these dark times, the Brotherhood – your Brotherhood – is all that stands between the rekindled flame of civilization and the howling, radiated wasteland.
Your weapons will become more than your tools, they will become your friends. You will use your skills to inspire the lowly and protect the weak… whether they like it or not. Your squadmates will be more dear to you than your kin and for those that survive there will be honor, respect and the spoils of war.

As someone who adores Fallout 1 & 2, I decided to give Fallout Tactics a try, it is also my first experience in playing a real time squad strategy game. Just to be upfront, if you are expecting this game play or be anything like the first two games, THIS IS NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL. This game honestly was challenging at first to get into, but once you get past the first 2-3 missions, you fall into a rhythm that works for this game. It is considerably slower than FO 1 & 2 in terms of gameplay, and it asks you to do a lot of thinking, but it rewards you for being able be cleaver about how you approach combat, giving you a lot of agency o how to pick your fights.
This game still features things from the OG games like S.P.E.C.I.A.L (but across your whole squad), an overworld map to traverse and have random encounters in, and a story that while is still not officially cannon (according to Emile Pagilarulo, but at this point who takes his opinion seriously anymore), still features the iconic Ron Pearman narration, and still has an interesting overarching story in of itself that tells a unique perspective of how the Brotherhood of Steel operates.
Unfortunately, this game is old. And from other reviews I have seen on the product page, it may be a coinflip if it works. I would recommend, if it does not launch for you on a Steam copy, you refund it and pick it up on GOG where there may be additional patches that will help it work on modern systems. The game is worth a try if you love the Fallout universe, and if you have played everything else and want to try something new.

Every grand plan crumbles with the first gunshot — and this game never lets you forget it.

It’s okay I guess, I personally enjoyed it.
The most important thing you should know is that it’s *very* different from the other games. It barely has any of the rpg elements. Heck, you can’t even speak with any of the NPCs (you can interact with them but can’t respond), and there isn’t a speech skill.
But the gameplay itself is fine for the most part. It’s basically Jagged Alliance but simpler and with a Fallout coat of paint.
In terms of mods you only really have Redux and Equilibrium, which improve the gameplay, make the game harder, add new quests, etc.
If you’re experiencing technical issues and/or crashes then install DDrawCompat.
Overall I recommend atleast trying Fallout Tactics. It’s not great but it’s not the worst thing ever.

People give this game a bad name because "oh it's not a Fallout title because of --random crap". It's a brilliant game that builds separate lore for the Fallout world and i can't recommend it enough!

If youre going to play this game I highly recommend downloading the nexus mod it really does polish the game and make the guns feel much stronger as they should be. Now on to the game play. Game play was great it made you think about a lot of the characters and which ones should have which gun and who should be the driver and mechanic and medic. I had a great time playing it and it made you map out each mission and still had that fallout feeling as 1 and 2 just more a graphics overhaul maybe cuz of the Nexus mod. But there is an annoying glitch(which is why i downloaded the mod so it can fix it) where when trying to free roam you get a random encounter but its not an encounter, it just stops you from traveling and there literally only land and no enemy and it'll do it for each time you try to travel on the map which can make a 10 second travel to place to place to a 30 min annoying session to try and get to a safe place so just get the mod and itll fix it and make the game feel even smoother and over all the game is really fun i got hooked on it im mad at myself for not giving it a shot much sooner!

This game is awesome, I have played Fallout 1, 2, 3, NV, 4, and 76 prior to finally giving Tactics its shot and I love it. This is an almost perfect merger of squad strategy and fallout. I really wish they made this into a separate spin off series.
Bethesda also has given me BOS burnout, but.... the BOS in this game are sick and that Power Armour design is so good. By far the best BOS chapter.

If you have an old computer that can't handle modern graphics, this is quite a fun game. A little different from 1 and 2 in theme and style, which some disliked, but I found it a fun little game with lots of tactical elements for making teams and loadouts for your vehicles etc. Some missions were a bit repetitive and jank and I prefer turn based. All in all was pretty fun. No real RPG or story elements. Not like the other games, it's on-rails more or less. A few options (chose A or B) but not really open world.
