Dark Void™
Dark Void™ is a sci-fi action-adventure game that combines an adrenaline-fueled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat. Set in a parallel universe called “The Void”, players take on the role of Will, a pilot dropped into incredible circumstances within the mysterious Void. This unlikely hero soon finds himself swept into a desperate struggle for survival, joining forces with a rebel human group called The Survivors. Trapped in the Void, these resistance fighters are battling to hold off a mysterious alien race that plans to threaten Earth.
Dark Void’s unique combination of jet pack-booster aerial dog fighting and third-person combat brings a thrilling new gameplay dynamic to the third-person shooter experience. Taking 3D action to a whole new level, Dark Void’s unique vertical combat system allows players to dangle from thousand foot drops as they take cover and hurl enemies to their doom, bringing a whole new sense of tension and thrill to the player. Will is also equipped with a powerful rocket pack which allows for fierce in-air combat, hurtling through the Void at blistering speeds while shooting down anything that gets in his path.
Key Features:
- Sci-Fi action/adventure combines aerial and on-foot combat for a totally unique third-person shooter experience
- Will’s jetpack delivers total freedom of movement allowing players to race against UFOs in high-speed chases and rain death from above onto unsuspecting otherworldly foes
- Speed and scale unmatched by any other action title: send Will zipping through tight corridors and then out into immense canyons and futuristic geoscapes
- Gravity-defying vertical combat system, where moving up is the only way to bring your enemies down
- Seemless transition between jetpack flight, ship-to-ship dog fighting and third-person shoot-em-up action all exists within the same level – not broken up into different “areas”
- Huge bosses that require fast reflexes and aerial barnstorming maneuvers to defeat
- Developed by Airtight Studios, a new group featuring team members from the Crimson Skies series of video games

If you never played it, grab it for $5 before its gone. Its nothing special. Average duck and cover shooter with a jet pack and vertical gimmick. Decided to grab it before it gets removed from steam and getting my moneys worth. 6 out of 10.

Gears of War-ish With A Rocket Pack
I deiced to grab this one now on Steam being it will be Delisted from all store fronts after the Capcom sale ends on May 8th 2024. This one, Dark Void Zero and Flock! will be delisted soon also from Capcom.
As for the game, the game isn't bad its way dated but not a bad game. It plays kind of like Gears of War but with a rocket pack strapped to your back. Its a 3rd person shooter. I did run into crashing and I'm using Windows 11 Pro. It would start fine and play for a bit and then crash once the bolder falls between you and your partner it would just crash with no error code or nothing.
To fix the crashing the first thing you need to do is Run the game in compatibility mode Windows XP (service pack 3) to do this just right click on the game in your library and hit proprieties, then look for the folder that says "nativePC" then look for and open the folder "Binaries", once opened scroll down a bit and look for the EXE which is called "ShippingPC-SkyGame" right click this and hit proprieties and select the compatibility mode tab and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and hit apply.
Next Step is in game set the game to "Vsync ON" and then go into your video driver settings and make a game profile and set the max frames to 60 and apply. If you followed all these steps it should run and play fine with no issues.
Also just a tip, once you select your resolution hit Alt+Enter once and it will bring the game into full screen and once you hit back it will save it, so you don't have to do this every time.
All in all its not a bad game but not a real good one, just a fun little arcade 3rd person shooter for the time period when it came out. So, grab this one while you can! Enjoy!

took me forever to finish this game when i was a kid, felt like a bad ass finishing the boss
now i finished this game within 5 hours.
real solid game, bought it for nostalgia, love the jet-pack mechanic, vertical ledge combat

I was actually surprised by this game. I bought it because I heard it was going to be de-listed, and it sat in my library until this afternoon. While its design is a little dated nowadays, and it may show its influences often, it remixes them in a way that I really enjoyed, and I think that a similar current game could be very good.
The combat can be slow, and aiming a pain for certain weapons, but all in all, is solid. The vertical cover is a cool addition to cover that I think is underused. If there is an x axis and a y axis, why not a z axis?
It took me a long time to get used to the jetpack controls, but by the end I felt like a flying fox!
The biggest issue with playing the game was that I had a vsync-related crashing problem, like most people, at the boulders in the beginning. It seems that everyone has their own fixes for it, but none of them worked for me. What I ended up doing was turning vsync to a fixed 30 fps, and it never crashed after that. Hope that helps someone!

Alright, usually I don't write reviews until after I hundo the game but in this case I must make an exception since it's getting delisted. Because:
1. Despite what other reviews have said, I had no difficulty getting this game to run on my Windows 10 PC. Sure there's the antiquated tech of a CD Key involved in the process, but no big deal. As a short guide for this game said, just right-click the game on your games list and select CD Key to get the key needed to activate the game. No sweat. Ran fine for me after finishing installation.
2. *ahem* STOP KILLING GAMES! Seriously, I don't care if you have to stick a great big red banner at the top of the page that says "DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU CAN HANDLE OLD TECH", just stop making it so difficult to appreciate the shared history of your company and your customers past and future. Just. Stop.
3. Yes I did see the 57 metacritic score, but I don't care if it's bad or good, games should never be made unavailable. If it's bad, then let people learn from them if nothing else. And let's not forget that no matter how bad, this game was somebody's childhood. And then there's almost always always the speedrunners and content creators who'd play jank for lulz.
In conclusion, tho I offer no guarantee for your system, I repeat that I got this game working just fine on my Win 10 PC on April 26th, 2024. (Can't speak to Win 11). So enjoy some discounted oldgame I guess while you send a message.

A short but average sci-fi action adventure, cover shooter. there are some solid concepts here but it doesn't really stand out.
Pros:
Decent cover mechanics for the time.
flying is fun but wears a little thin
the jet pack in the ground segments is cool if a little under utilized.
Cons:
Short lack luster story that ends in a cliff hanger
graphics don't hold up that well
over use of quick time events
