Welcome to Learn Programming: Python – Remake! The goal of this game (more of an interactive course) is to introduce beginners to the wonders of the world of Computer Science! The game has have two core components:
- Lessons: An interactive course to teach you how to think computationally, how to write programs in Python, and how to design classes using the principles of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
- Challenges: Multiple choice, short answer, and math problems to test your understanding of Python, computational thinking, and OOP. These challenges are embedded throughout the Lessons, so you can practice your understanding of concepts in real-time under an Active Learning framework.
This game assumes absolutely zero prerequisite background. We hope you will join us as we explore the wonders of Programming in Python!
- Game developed by Niema Moshiri
- Lesson content developed by Sabeel Mansuri

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- How do I adjust the settings of the game?
- All game settings can be adjusted via the “Preferences” section of the Main Menu, which can be accessed at any time by pressing “Escape” (keyboard) or “Start” (controller)
- How is “Learn Programming: Python – Remake” different from the original “Learn Programming: Python – Retro”?
- The game engine behind “Learn Programming: Python – Retro” was built from scratch by the developers purely out of interest, and as such, it lacked many technical features of modern game engines
- “Learn Programming: Python – Remake” is a ground-up remake of the game using the Ren’Py game engine, which is commonly used to create visual novel games
- There were some lesson text/images that were omitted from “Learn Programming: Python – Retro” due to technical limitations of the game engine which have been readded to “Learn Programming: Python – Remake”, but the lesson text is very largely the same
- The key new features in “Learn Programming: Python – Remake” are the following:
- Cleaner modern user interface (e.g. support for up to 4K resolution, nice fonts, images, ambient background music, etc.)
- Steam Achievements
- Ability to skip challenges and track progress
- Support for Steam Community Overlay
- Support for the Steam Link app
- Support for Steam Remote Play
- Because of how it was packaged, “Learn Programming: Python – Retro” had an issue with false positive antivirus flags (see the “Learn Programming: Python – Retro” Store Page FAQs for more info); this is completely fixed in “Learn Programming: Python – Remake” because of its use of Ren’Py

I'm on a DIY learning path and though "hmm, this is cheap, lets try it out". I'm still in the first chapter and already got a couple "Ooooh" moments where something I was kinda guesstimating most of the time finally was explained in a coherent manner.
It is essentially a powerpoint presentation with exercises, which is a fresh breeze because all of the DIY documentation one can get about programming languages can be so darned cryptic if you have no idea where to start from.

I used to program in Matlab and now I decided to switch to Python. However, even though there are many other materials that are free, I decided to purchase this. Having a Steam account and lacking willpower, I tend to play games, so I decided to play a game of programming. If you are having troubles as I have, this “game” is certainly pretty handy.

This game is literally, word for word, the exact same as what my UCSD professor is using on this website called "Ed" to teach us Python.
If you want a UCSD certified Python programming course, you should consider getting this game. Additionally, I would recommend running python on the side if you want to maximize your learning and test things out as you go. It's crazy how, I really could have just played this game instead of taking a whole ass 4 unit college course. Or, I could have previously found this game, finished it, and have had 200% of the experience I needed to finish my programming course.
I personally document all of my code in my notes for easier reference moving forward. Switching between this game and my official UC course has been a very engaging, dopamine-filled experience. Honestly, having my college course essentially be 'a game' has made me feel more inclined to commit to the workload.
(This game is certainly bare bone and is more like an educational slide show than a proper game, but I personally found it to be quite helpful by simply being located on steam. This sort of caused me to keep having this reminder of what I should have been better off doing instead of whichever game I were going to replay that day.)

So far I have only counted two things that have been updated. I have read all of the first four chapters.
