I'll be honest: This game is mostly for the nostalgia.
OGs like me who have come from GameCube and PlayStation are thrilled to have this remake. It was one of my first farming games and sparked a lot of key interests for games like it (ie. crop hybrids, male animals included for cross breeding, and choosing a spouse who then influences your child's initial interests, later swayed by how you interact with them as they grow from toddler to a full young adult).
For those who haven't played the original games, it may seem a bit bland or repetitive after a certain point as you ARE limited to a small town to traverse across your character's "Wonderful Life", but that was where some of the original charm came from for me. You grow older with the residents that you get to know, build your farm, and raise a family.
I really appreciate SoS rotating back to familiar favourites and breathing some life back into them again. I can only hope that my hands-down favorite, Animal Parade, is soon to come on the remake list!

I played the special edition of this game on PS2. Can't express how nostalgic I felt when I first saw the game on steam and immediately caught it when if was on sale.
I was a little worried when I saw the reviews mentioning bad controls and lifeless story but I decided to try it and refund if I didn't like and boy was I glad I did.
For controls, yes they are a bit weird but completely customizable to your liking. Not close to the PS2 version but hey, different platform, different ideas so no complaints here.
As for the story, I have played through spring so far and I gotta say the story goes a bit different than what I remember but in a good way though
So overall I have nothing to complain about except for the price so I would totally recommend to get when on sale! Huge thumbs up

Hot tip: Turn off vsync and your animals won't move from place to place by hopping through dimensions. This also fixed how incredibly sensitive inputs on both controller and keyboard are.
I played Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life when it first came out in 2004. I was never sure if I liked the game; things about it made me sad like my animals dying or being taken away to the city if I sold them. The entire game felt grey and quiet and sad. A heartbreaking nostalgia came with that. Perhaps, it was a difficult time in my childhood.
On to this version of the game. It keeps the strangeness I remember without the sadness. The game is bright and colourful, and I don't have to feel bad (still a little bad) when I sell an animal. I've never played Stardew, but I imagine if you're a fan of that game you probably won't like the simplicity of this game. It doesn't offer a lot of bells and whistles, but I love its atmosphere.
I love having a little family, farm animals, and mixing crops with my good ol' pal Vinnie. I love the little moments you get to witness between your fellow townsfolk. I love the cryptid hiding in the forest and the mad scientist who fails to catch her at every turn. I love watching my kid grow up. I love it when my dog runs up to me and I pick him up and read the dialog: "Bones smells like sunshine".
Sure, nostalgia is at play for me with this game, but it is a different game from what I played 20 years ago. I'm a different person than I was 20 years ago. I'm not sure if this is a recommendation or me reminiscing about a small light in a dark time. I'm not sure. Maybe get the game when it's on sale so you don't feel bad if you don't like it.

Oh, sweet childhood memories! I never played the original, but old Harvest Moon Ds was my first game and the characters are basically the same.
(I wish the Witch Princess and the Mermaid were in this part too)
I already played about 80% through the game on the Switch and decided to try it on pc since I prefer playing games this way.
The first thing I noticed was the walking speed. I am unsure if I imagine things, but it feels slightly faster than on the switch. That aside the game feels good to play, although I can understand that having to turn the camera around as you walk might annoy players.
Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life is different from a lot of farming games since you age as you play each year. The time to reach goals is limited, but don't worry the game feels long enough even with the aging thing in mind. At the beginning you move in, take over the farm, meet the villagers, and get to work.
Animals are a part of farming life as well and you will get to take care of cows, chickens, ducks, sheep, and so on. After settling in it quickly becomes obvious that you have to get married by the end of the first year. The game will end if you decide not to get married or take one of the default options if you haven't pursued anyone.
You have to get through marriage to progress the game further.
I don't think that is a bad thing per se and lets one focus more on planning if known, but I can imagine that it might not be to everyone's liking.
The events from this game are great. Not too many and not too little.
You even get to do quests with good rewards from villagers from time to time.
Another thing I liked about the game is the songs you can collect and play in your house.
Now to the negative side.
After a few years, when your child is almost fully grown, it becomes boring because you have seen it all and there is nothing new that would keep you engaged to continue the story and your farm life further.
You probably have collected everything and then there is the question of what to do with the rest of the time. Just going into hibernation mode to skip some time? On the switch, I stopped playing at some point near the end and only sparely returned once in a while to keep going, but it shows that the lack of content in the later game affects the fun quite a lot.
The only other annoying thing for me is the horse falling asleep all the time when I want to ride it.
EDIT: I finished the game with skipping a lot of days at around the middle of year 4.

I have immense nostalgia for the original game and perhaps that is why I adored this remake so much. It has retained all those elements I did like of the game: that you get to play a full life indeed and see your child age into their own person. There's a lot of warmth and heart in the game which makes it so that I can warmly recommend it! It's a bit slow moving but if that is something that you enjoy, this is a great addition to the farming sim genre!

A Wonderful Life is a great starting point for Farm Sims. It can be simpler and routine than more complex Farm Sims like Stardew or even other Story of Seasons. The old GameCube version got me into these type of games and the remake is very true to it. Very nostalgic with several quality of life changes. If you already like the more complex ones you may find this one boring. It's a lot more bare bones. However, if you want a simple introduction or want to share the type of game with a younger player who may not handle all the complexities this one is a great starting place. And if you loved the old one the remake is very nostalgic. I love it for a simple destress game.

Fun game. Easiest farming simulator. Marry and have kids. Your family doesn't help around the farm though.
Quick tip, buy sheep and sell wool. It's the fastest way to make money.
