Relax Walk VR is one of those games that is really hard to judge like a normal game because there is barely any traditional gameplay here. The whole idea is to put me into a few peaceful environments and let me walk around them while listening to relaxing music. There are six places to visit, including Mars, a forest, an ocean, a Chinese temple, an oasis and an apocalypse setting. I can choose between teleport movement and direct movement, so the experience is mainly about exploring the scenery at my own pace rather than completing objectives or trying to win anything.
The best thing about it for me is the simplicity. I can load into an environment, start walking and just look around without having enemies, missions or timers constantly demanding my attention. The different locations also give me a decent bit of variety for something this small. I especially like the idea of being able to switch between completely different moods, because walking around a forest is obviously going to feel very different from wandering around Mars or an abandoned apocalypse environment. It is a basic concept, but VR does make simply being inside these places more interesting than looking at screenshots of them.
The music is another useful part of the experience. There are 18 relaxing tracks included, and there is also a YouTube browser that lets me use my own music while I walk around. I like that option because the experience is so passive that choosing my own soundtrack can make a big difference. I can basically turn one of the environments into a little virtual space where I can just wander around and listen to whatever I want. There is no pressure to accomplish anything, which is exactly what I would expect from something with a name like Relax Walk VR.
The biggest problem is that the environments are much smaller and simpler than the idea initially makes them sound. I can walk around, but there are boundaries and areas that I cannot reach, so the freedom is limited. Some of the scenery also looks dated now, especially compared with newer VR experiences. I can still enjoy the atmosphere, but I have to remember that this was released back in 2017. The ocean environment in particular can make the limitations more obvious because some of the scenery does not always look as convincing as it could.
There is also almost nothing to actually do. I cannot fight enemies, solve puzzles, complete activities or interact with a proper game world in any meaningful way. I am walking and looking around, and that is basically the entire experience. I do not necessarily think that is a failure because the game is specifically designed as a relaxing walking simulator, but it does mean I am only going to get value from it when I actually want something this simple. If I am looking for a full VR game, there is not enough here to keep me occupied for very long.
I also think the age of the game shows in its presentation and controls. It supports tracked controllers and was originally designed around systems such as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, so it does not feel like a modern VR experience built around the newest hardware. The direct movement option is useful, but I prefer teleportation in some environments because it makes exploring easier and keeps the experience more comfortable. There are also six Steam achievements, although I see those as a small extra rather than a reason to play.
Overall, Relax Walk VR does exactly what the name promises, but it is a very limited experience. I like having six different environments, relaxing music, two movement options and the ability to use my own music, and I think the free price makes it easy for me to try without much commitment. The dated visuals, restricted environments and complete lack of meaningful gameplay keep it from being something I would return to regularly. For me, it works best as a short VR relaxation experience rather than a proper game. It has a nice idea and some pleasant environments, but there simply is not enough depth here for a higher rating.
