Fun little RTS game. Great mod support and strong core gameplay. Has a variety of units most of which don't overlap each others' roles and fun experimental end-game units. Can support huge numbers of units fighting simultaneously. There's a lot of options now in the advanced menu for setting up interesting games (e.g. 3 AI teams with 3 AI each vs the player and fighting each other). Updates are slow but usually contain major improvements and lot of minor ones so are worth the wait.
The main weakness is the AI, which simply spams any unit it can afford (at a certain probability per unit), then attack moves each unit randomly across the map. The AI also receives an income multiplier. In a way, this is still fun to fight against since it creates a "player vs disorganised horde" feeling, but I'm hoping the next update will have an improved AI that can form attack groups and use overall strategies. At the moment, simply building defences with repair bays around the map catches and kills the AI's randomly attack-moving units easily. It would be even better if there was an option for the AI to still use the old random units mode, so that you could have e.g. you + a strategic AI vs multiple horde AI.
There are also insect units in the sandbox mode (which allows you to place units and buildings freely) which indicates an bug race may be added soon, which would be great, and a good candidate for the old spam-based AI. A couple of maps on the workshop already have bug race units and they are quite fun to play as or against.

I first bought this from the Android store with low expectations, not having heard of it before. Graphics looked like 32-bit C64. First of all, I was shocked at how good the AI was ... schooled me, a grizzled veteran of Command & Conquer, Total Annihilation and other trailblazers of the RTS genre. Okay, what is going on here? How many game modes are there? Decided to jump in head first and downloaded (on Android) the Major Experimentals and AEA mods. Each mod supposedly added hundreds of new units. Next 20 games and I've learned menus, unit navigation, unit upgrades, and general strategy. Still getting schooled, but I've won a few games now. And in those few games, made it to the end game with epic experimental units of vast power. Then I see these alien outposts .... what to do with them. Click and it tells you to capture with a small land unit. Doing so unleashes dragons, drops player-controlled alien tech ships from orbit, or more. This game is better than most AAA titles I've played in years. I may buy a tablet or Steam Deck just to play it, it's that good.

It's got the mods.
Seriously, it's a good game on its own, a fun throw back, but don't let the simplistic looking graphics fool you, the simple systems and graphics are a feature, possibly the main feature. Mods have added so many new things, new themes, new complexity and variety.

I have played this game a lot, it is very fun and the AI is good most of the time, great multiplayer and amazing modding community. I highly recommend it to anyone, it is very easy to learn and play and with the vast array of mods and maps there are endless possibilities and scenarios.
