Fun game, but the price is not worth it.

Underneath all the jank, repetition, and the absurd launch price is a seriously good game.
That being said, its the type of game that appeals to a very niche category of players -- a category that has little overlap with Minecraft's community. I think this is the main reason why Legends was received so negatively compared to Dungeons. RTS games take quick thinking, dedication, and a degree of hating yourself that just isn't marketable or enjoyable to the mainstream gaming ecosystem.
Now that we've looked at why Legends was a commercial flop, lets discuss whether or not the game is actually worth buying in the year 2025+
The game was abandoned 9 months after release, but there remains a sizable amount of content to work with. My experience while playing this game was that I could reach an hour max each play session before getting demotivated and returning the next day.
Most of the game is centered on traveling to villages/POIs on a map, defending those areas from Piglin attacks via building defenses, and going on the offensive to the various Piglin settlements. One of the high points of this game is the behavior of the Piglins. They react to your choices, conquering areas you neglect, strengthening and defending besieged camps, and on higher difficulties even launching joint attacks from seperate Piglin camps to consolidate their armies. Every day/night cycle you focus your attention on a different area of the map, because the Piglins choose a different area to threaten each time. Villages you defend will provide you with a steady supply of whatever resources that area has in return for your support, so you are incentivized to maintain as much control over the map as possible.
Going on the offensive is more repetitive/dull, but it does have its upsides. When attacking camps you are always at a disadvantage by the sheer number of troops, so you have to select your units strategically based on the defenses of that camp. The fight often spans several days, where you lay siege to the enemy over a long period before finally breaking through to the camp and destroying the nether portal that spawns the Piglins.
Unit combat is complicated and organizing your troops is very hard to do, but the game lets you change difficulties as needed if you are unable to prosper in challenging situations.
Defense is in my opinion the most fun aspect of the game. Using your supplies you can provide villages with an array of archer towers. walls, traps, and support buildings.
Is this game worth buying if you are not a hardcore RTS fan? I'd say it depends on the price. The game often goes on sale, especially now that the hype has died down. At the time of writing this it is on sale for 16$. Unless you really enjoy strategy games, I'd recommend waiting for it to go to the 10-20$ dollar range and then consider picking it up.
Overall rating: 6/10

I so wish we would've gotten DLC's for this game, they tried something unique and it sadly didn't work out, which is fair.
The use of beautiful music, amazingly animated cutscenes that showcase such compelling personality from the characters in-world and gameplay when you really learn the gist of everything it really runs like clockwork; the role of each structure and how they work, your strategies when it comes to your armies and managing ongoing events like raids, expansions and more.
Another wish I have is that this game would have post-game content, all the work you put in just for nothing to really mean anything after it's over, even the Great Hog as the final boss not really having as much story relevance past the intro and night beacon base showing up and not being a massive challenge if you really know what you're doing also doesn't help the finality of things.
The mounts are fun, many of which I wish we would have in actual Minecraft itself, along with many many other things.
The lore is fun, how it's told from a Villager's perspective and, since it's a tale that's been passed down for generations, some details don't add up unless you cross-reference with other games, which is a really fun way to do the more hidden lore.
It's still such a good experience, but I don't think it's for absolutely everyone, it's still unique and if you want to try it I definitely recommend giving it a shot.

Fun, multiplayer could use some love though. Not worth $40 for a basically dead game from a hugely successful franchise, at least right now until they update it.

Missed opportunity.
You don't see triple a studios release RTS's especially an alternative RTS. It fit minecrafts style and was essentially a mod for bedrock, by my god this game was so good and all it needed was updates.
Buy it if your fine with buying an unsupported game, if your looking for more than what it currently has your out of luck.

This game is GREAT but once you complete it there is no point. The games creators has not made a update in years and after final boss it is like Houdini goes to the overworld and made those piglins disappear back to the nether for eternal punishment, like you just stand there with the beautiful blocks but if this game mixed with the OG it would be fire. And get this game on sale when I looked at the price I thought this was Nintendo's doing with 80$ Mario Kart World, but what do you know it was Steams price Steam do not take after Nintendo! so just wait until it is on sale.

I'm not much of an RTS player, but the incorporation of Minecraft lore into this RTS made it pretty enjoyable. I'd give it a solid 8/10.
