Taka Taka is a Japanese-folklore-inspired rhythm game.
Play as Tengu and Oni, an unlikely pair attempting to survive a world of Yokai. Each character has distinct strengths and weaknesses.
Dance between the two note tracks in sync with the music.
Match the characters with their colorized notes.
Face increasingly more conniving enemies and progress through the world of Yokai in order to break free from a mysterious curse.
Mastering Taka Taka is about hitting the right notes, at the right time, with the right characters!

It's like a high quality flash game from back in the day. The gameplay is a lot harder than it looks, at least on hard mode. I miss one and then I just straight miss my whole hp bar lol. The mechanic of swapping is new to me and pretty refreshing. Something I noticed was because of the auto attacking, and not something like hitting the notes on time like other rhythm games, you have to position the character in the correct spot before the note hits. It's obvious, but I'm not sure others have noticed this consciously. Didn't get to finish the game yet, but the enemy types surprised me and the levels are challenging enough to make the game worth getting.

A rhythm game with 4 lanes. You control a red and purple spirit and there are 5 zones with 3 levels each. After beating a zone, new yokai are added with a different ability. Each level, you start with 5 hp and can slowly gain it back by hitting combos. The player needs to focus on timing and hand eye coordination and you have about 2-3 seconds to react to the incoming yokai chain.
Pros:
- The controls are simple, but this game is hard to master.
- Art is hand drawn and the nature background of each level is gorgeous.
- As more yokai are unlocked, there are detailed lore descriptions of each.
- Music is catchy for each level and the soundtrack is coming soon per Steam page.
Cons:
- Normal difficulty is still relatively hard even for many players. As of this review, only 15% beat all 5 zones on normal difficulty.
Suggestions:
- Give 1 extra life for normal difficulty only. If player dies, you come back with 1 HP.
- Add a daily challenge level for more replay-ability.
- Add controller support.
- Add a replay feature. This will allow player to watch their mistakes from previous run.
Conclusion:
A challenging game with beautiful art and catchy music. If you want to meet the mystical yokai, try this rhythm game.
