The solution to the puzzle in the second act of Baldur's Gate 3 is an engaging challenge, requiring players not only to be clever but also to combat enemies to obtain the coveted Night Spear. In this concise guide, we provide assistance in solving the final puzzle, which, despite its simplicity, raises numerous questions.
Solution to the Pedestal Puzzle
After successfully completing the three trials in the "Invoke the Ball" location, access to the Library is granted. Following the phase of clearing enemies and entering the area with the pedestal, players encounter the puzzle: "What can silence the Song of the Night?". The answer lies in the bookshelf, where the book "Teachings of Loss: Night Songstress" is hidden. After careful reading, the player receives the answer: it's the Shar. It is worth noting that the bookshelf is initially a trap, and successfully disarming it requires a Dexterity check with a difficulty class of 14.
How to Open the Gates
Opening the iron lift gates provides several solutions:
- Lockpicking with thief's tools – Astarian, with the necessary skills, can excel at this task;
- Activating the correct button without triggering traps.
If you lack thief's tools, approach the button on the nearest column to the right and interact with it. In response to your action, the gates will instantly open.
Armed with the book, players pass through the metal gates on the west side of the Silent Library and then insert it into the "Night Puzzle" pedestal. This opens the west wall, leading to a room with an altar where the long-awaited Night Spear is located. Despite its initially modest appearance, this weapon proves valuable to fans in the Gauntlet of Shar.
The Night Spear is not the sole reward in the secret room. The Dark Justiciar's Half-Plate lies at the base of the altar, and the Dark Justiciar's Helmet is in a chest against the west wall. Although they may not claim the title of the best armor in Baldur's Gate 3, they can prove useful at this stage of the game.
Purpose of the Night Spear
The Night Spear is a two-handed weapon required to complete the following tasks:
- "Find the Relic of Keteric Torm";
- "Find the Night Song";
- "Daughter of Darkness."
Only with this weapon can the true offspring of the Lady of Darkness take the life of the Songstress of Sorrow—an "artifact" confined in the "Prison of the Night Song" location in the Shadow Kingdom.
