How to use the Mirror of Loss in Baldur’s Gate 3

In the dark world of Baldur's Gate 3, inhabited by mysterious creatures and dangers, the Mirror of Loss is one of the most perplexing discoveries. Like many players who have explored the dark room with flickering candles, you probably spent too long before giving up and leaving the broken mirror behind. However, in the third act of the game, there is another Mirror of Loss, and skillful interaction with it can yield great rewards.

Where to find the Mirror of loss

If you've completed Shadowheart's quest and visited the House of Sorrow in the Lower City, you will find the Mirror of Loss in the Room of Loss on the lowest level of the cult's headquarters. Correctly interacting with this mirror will allow you to gain a positive effect. In this article, we will explain in detail how to use the Mirror of Loss in Baldur's Gate 3 and share some unique tips.

How to Interact with the Mirror of Loss

Religion and Magic checks
Religion and Magic checks

To successfully use the Mirror of Loss in the House of Sorrow, you will need to make Religion and Arcana skill checks. Initially, you need to kneel before the mirror, allowing it to look into your memories. Then, you must make a sacrifice by offering one of your memories. To complete this exchange, you will also need to pray to the mirror, passing a Religion skill check. If you succeed in both actions and sacrifice a memory, you can exchange -2 in one of your attributes for +2 in another. However, keep in mind that to make a successful deal, you also need to pass a Religion skill check to demonstrate your faith in the power of the Mirror of Loss.

The Mirror will allow you to make the following sacrifices and attribute exchanges:

  1. (Forbidden Knowledge) Share part of the Forbidden Knowledge found in the Taevan Tomb.
  2. Sacrifice memories of your physical strength - times when your raw power brought you victories, allowing you to increase your Strength while reducing Dexterity.
  3. Sacrifice memories of your youth, when your heart was light, and your body was agile, granting a bonus to Dexterity but reducing Strength.
  4. Sacrifice memories of spiritual strength and well-being, when your body and mind steadfastly withstood all trials, increasing Constitution but reducing Intelligence.
  5. Sacrifice valuable knowledge obtained from books, scrolls, and tablets—words that left a mark on your mind but brought no other benefits—enabling you to increase Intelligence while decreasing Wisdom.
  6. Sacrifice some wisdom gained over the years—old wounds, important lessons, and pleasant memories—granting a bonus to Wisdom while reducing Charisma.
  7. Sacrifice memories of a time when your charm shone brightly—applause from the embarrassed, smiles from the deceived, and kisses from the seduced—increasing Charisma but decreasing Dexterity.
  8. (Deception) If you prefer not to share a part of yourself, you can invent a false offering to deceive the Mirror of Loss, but this won't provide any bonuses.

After receiving both -2 and +2 in your chosen attributes, you can use Shadowheart's "Remove Curse" spell to eliminate the "Stolen Energy" condition, which represents -2 in one of your attributes. The uniqueness of this mechanic lies in its offering players a wide range of possibilities for creative interaction and customization of their character to suit their playstyle.
