The main cast is interesting, their design are appealing.
The enemies are underdevelopped and the gameplay is serviceable
The yuri is good, but the ending is unsatisfying
I'd give this game a mixed review, get on sale if you're intererested.

The game is somewhat okay. I would say if you want a middling hack and slash that's average you can find some fun with this but get it on sale but not at full price.

I kept hearing how “mid” this game was for a while, but I was still interested in it regardless. As always, the average person’s opinion is not very reliable. I think this game is absolutely fantastic.
Anyone that’s played Neptunia, Senran Kagura, Kandagawa Jet Girls knows what they’re getting into; Team of girls, this time three from the Sengoku era and one from the present day, are tasked with a big goal to achieve and we witness their girly shenanigans on the way there.
The game is mission based, 27 missions total, three difficulties, and 15 “Bubble Pockets” which are shorter missions meant to give you more details and build a stronger relationship about one of the three Sengoku girls. The Yuri is strong here and it’s good. No teasing, good quality gay girl interactions that made me “awwww” constantly.
I’ve also heard that the combat system in this game is bad… I don’t believe it. It’s not true. The combat system is quite good. It’s not perfect, and there’s things I’d change, but it’s a very fun combat system. You got light attacks, heavy attacks, a stinger-like attack, an aerial launcher, air combos, dodges, parries, a devil trigger-like mode activated by yuri, what more could you want? The three Sengoku girls also follow you around during the missions. They don’t attack on their own, which is a bit disappointing, but they perform Ninja Skills when you command them to. Think of them like Pokemon… I guess.
It also features the Dragon of Dogima himself, Kazuma Kiryu...'s actual and true voice actor; Takaya Kuroda.
One criticism that I do agree with is with the ending itself. It’s not that it’s disappointing, it’s just that, the ending shouldn’t have happened in the way that it did considering the story and the character relationships we witness in the game. But, as it is, it’s fine. It just could have been better.
I have given up collecting achievements, but I enjoyed this game enough that I made an exception. The achievement design is just right. The only difficult one was the kill 15000 enemies. Here’s a tip; Chapter 14 has two bird enemies that spawn 5 skull bombs each. Those count as enemies if you slash at them. Simply let them spawn as many as they can by running around them to easily farm kills. Eventually, they will stop summoning skulls and walk around. Defeat them and move on. If you die, your kills are saved, even if the end level tally didn’t count them.
Another possible weakness this game has is the lack of enemy variety. There’s enough, but I would have liked to see more. Maybe some enemies that force me to do aerial combat more often perhaps. Minor knitpick.
All in all, I love this game, and I’m going to miss these silly girls and their shenanigans. I hope to see a sequel that retcons that ending one day.

Mediocre but cute little hack n slash, probably wait for a deep discount. Braindead but fun. Nice music and graphics, too. Solid 6/10.

Samurai Maiden is very, very good. I'm surprised at this game. The anime girls are cute and the combat is excellent.
The picture the girls take at the end of the boss fights is very cute too.

Samurai Maiden is a hack-and-slash action game that combines fast swordplay with a modern-day schoolgirl protagonist transported into a war-torn Sengoku era. The setup is intentionally dramatic, placing the main character in a strange historical crisis where she must rely on quick reflexes and newly awakened skills to survive. Its tone mixes seriousness with playful character moments.
Combat focuses on simple but stylish sword combos, dodges, and special abilities. The controls are accessible, allowing players to chain attacks fluidly without complex inputs. As the game progresses, enemies become more aggressive, encouraging smart positioning and careful timing rather than simple button-mashing. Boss fights highlight this shift by demanding more deliberate play.
A key feature is the “Gokage System,” which lets the protagonist combine attacks with her ninja allies. These team moves add flair and additional tactical options, especially when clearing groups of enemies or dealing burst damage. The synergy between characters helps keep encounters dynamic and visually striking.
Storytelling revolves around the growing bond between the protagonist and her companions. Dialogue is light, character-driven, and frequently humorous, balancing out the otherwise chaotic backdrop. While the plot itself is straightforward, the character interactions carry most of the narrative weight and deliver the game’s charm.
Level design is linear but varied, moving through temples, fortresses, and supernatural realms. Stages include light platforming segments, traps, and environmental hazards that break up the combat. Visual style blends historical motifs with fantasy elements, creating a colorful and slightly exaggerated interpretation of feudal Japan.
Progression offers skill upgrades, new abilities, and small enhancements that gradually expand combat options. The pacing is structured to keep players improving without overwhelming them with systems. Unlockable scenes and character events add extra context and personality outside of missions.
Samurai Maiden delivers a compact, stylish action experience centered on fast swordplay, character chemistry, and vibrant presentation. It does not aim for deep complexity, but its accessible mechanics, playful tone, and distinctive setting create an experience suited for players who enjoy light anime-style action with an emphasis on teamwork and flair.

Not bad at all, it is a fun little game that doesn't take things too seriously and has that interesting ''mini map'' feel to it unlike most muso like games.
The characters are fun, the story is decent, the graphics are adequate but the feel of the game is just ''right'' if you can get my drift.
Granted, there is a lot of issues, weapons all feel the same, some mechanics are not easy to choose and use and the game just feels like ''on a loop'' with later levels almost offering nothing new.
Also, the spike in difficulty is weird, especially some bosses, 1 time they wipe you out then another time, you win first try.
But i need to say, some bosses are insane cheap and uses weird tactics.
also , for the life of me, i didn't figure out how to use recovery items, so that added to the frustration of the game.
anw, this review was after winning the game in normal mode, and it was fun, keep in mind that i didn't pay full price for it, so it helped, i can recommend it on a heavy discount for sure.
