About Spyro…
A long time ago, when I was just a little kid—maybe 4 or 5 years old—I was visiting some family friends. While I was there, I saw a game about a small purple dragon, and I instantly loved it. It was so colorful and different. Back then, there weren’t many computer games around, and this one really stood out.
After that visit, I kept trying to find the game. I’d go to local stores that sold CDs and ask, “Do you have the game with the purple dragon?” And everyone would just say, “No idea what you’re talking about.” I remember thinking: wow, nobody knows this game, it must be some super rare and special thing I’ll never find again.
Years later, I saw a remaster of a game with a purple dragon and suddenly realized—it was that game. Spyro.
Now I’m 28, and I finally bought and played through it. I wasn’t even that excited at first, but finishing it felt really good. It felt like a small chapter from childhood was finally closed. And that’s enough for me.

Spyro the Dragon was my very first video game back on the original PlayStation and seeing him so lovingly brought back to life in this trilogy was heartwarming! ... At least at first, until I remembered how rage-inducing some of the later sections are, but at least they recreated how annoying it was too!
I aimed for 100% completion and some of the skill points are a nightmare. The achievements were all relatively easy and you'll get most of them simply by playing the game normally. Took me roughly 50 hours to get everything done and I *really* sucked at the skateboarding sections.
My only criticisms for the PC-specific Reignited version are that it wasn't optimised too well when ported over to PC (I played the Reignited Trilogy on PS4 as well and had no problems) all linked to framerate - setting the frames to unlimited will cause you all kinds of issues from Spyro sliding around on his own to game-breaking problems with boss fights. Not the end of the world as you can simply set the framerate to 60fps (30fps in some cases) mid-fight.
And again, I really sucked at the skateboarding. Not sure if it was actually hard or if I was just bad at it but, regardless, I never feel the need to ever touch a skateboard again.
Despite some minor issues, it's a faithful recreation of the purple boi we love so much. You can tell it was made with love and by people that really care and that it's not just a cash-grab jumping on the remake bandwagon.
Hopeful for a brand new Spyro game sometime in the future! :)

Spyro is a childhood joy and a timeless classic.
It's a bright colorful world with friendly cartoony characters and solid voice acting. The classic collectathon style is great to pass the time, and the gameplay mechanics and platforming are impeccable. This game is great for all ages.
I completed and 100% all three games, and I'd do it again.

These were the games of my childhood. My mum used to play them with me, let me do the "hard jumps" to help her and baby me was so proud when I did it for her. When I saw that the remake was on Steam I got really excited since I don't really play on my PlayStation anymore. It's a good remake, can't complain about anything. The achievements r fun since many of them you can get through normally playing them, some are described better than others I have noticed. But there's a bunch of achievements for the games and I like that. Easy to play games, good for me to relax and nostalgic. On sale it is 13,99€ on Steam and for that price you can't do anything wrong really! It is worth it!

This is a wonderful remaster.
As usual, I'll split this into 2 parts, the original games and the remastered collection.
The classic trilogy was amazing back in PS1, and I would add that a much better series of games than the already excellent Crash Bandicoot trilogy. All three games share the same core mechanics, it's basically a Super Mario 64 kind of game with a lot of collectathon elements. Worlds are divided in various levels, each level will be a classic 3d platformer or a flying stage or a boss level. The main gist is collecting colored gems which are used for buying updates and unlocking new worlds. Levels in Spyro will always feature different enemies and fodder creatures to refill health. They are never repeated in another levels, bringing a ton of originality. All 3 games add a final super stage after you get 100%, with more minigames or small challenges.
Spyro 1 starts basic enough, the game features 6 worlds with a ton of variety. Expect a lot of magic going on and a very simple plot. Gnasty Gnorc, the big bad, transformed every dragon into statue and now you have to rescue them and defeat him. That's it. You can tackle the levels in any order, including the bosses. Speaking of which, the bosses on this first entry are just laughable. Even the final boss will present no challenge at all. It's a very solid game, that will have some very interesting challenges around the second half, with dragons or gems being very deviously hidden. Rescuing dragons will trigger a nice little cutscene with dialogue that might give you hints. The flying levels are timed challenges, they are not super hard but will require some retries.
Spyro 2 is probably the best game in the saga, a new villain Ripto and his lackeys conquer a new world called Avalar and you have to defeat them. There are a couple of allies now on Spyro side, the Professor, Tiger, who reminds me of Michaelangelo from TMNT, and Elora. The main mechanic is that instead of rescuing dragons, you must find orbs. These are given as rewards for minigames and quests. This brings a ton of variety to the game, quests can be to kill specific enemies, or solve a series of puzzle sequences, or finding a hidden spot behind a breakable wall. A new character, Moneybags, will charge you gems in order to unlock levels and help you advance, and also give you access to a series of new movements. Spyro will now be able to swim, climb up ladders and headbash into the ground. All these new moves and the more focused character development and plot make Spyro 2 a wonderful game. Another new addition is the skill points, a series of challenging tasks, sometimes very secret, that unlock art galleries. What is also another enhancement is the bosses, there are only 3 now, but they are much more difficult, even having multiple phases.
Spyro 3 continues in the same trend. The new villain is the sorceress with a lackey called Bianca. Gone are the orbs, now you have to collect baby dragon eggs, similar to the first part. You keep all your new movements from 2 which is a nice touch and skill points are back. The newest addition is that you can now rescue 4 different animal buddies that will have their own stages and substages in different worlds and levels. It's a very interesting change, but it also broke the game pace. Sheila the kangaroo can jump super high, Sgt. Byrd who can fly and throw bombs, Bentley, a big yeti who moves slowly and smashes things, and Agent 9, a monkey who can shoot and even has stages similar to a railshooter. That's not all, there's also new Sparx levels, where you play as the little dragonfly following you, which plays like the old topdown Gauntlet games. What is probably the worst part of the game, is the new skateboard levels where you have to be like Tony Hawk with Spyro, doing tricks to gather points and even races. The controls and engine is not that good and it tends to be frustrating after retrying so many times.
Now about the Reignited Trilogy, this is the first time we can officially play all these games on PC and other systems. Everything looks amazing, Spyro will burn grass, the skies have incredible colors, and each dragon you rescue has a unique model. All music was remastered as well and sounds as good as always. There are small changes everywhere since this is not running on top of the original games, but only a real fan would notice them. Physics are not exactly the same, but for all practical purposes they feel the same.
The bad things, for some weird reason the engine breaks when you run the game at more than 60 fps. Spyro will slide out of platforms and jump at a different height, completely breaking the game. The loading times are also massive, loading a level can take up to 30 seconds. Some character models might also be unsettling for some people, with human characters in 2 and 3 looking a little bit off, but that's minor.
This is an almost perfect remaster. Please more compilations like this!

Lock FPS to 60 if your controls are messed up. Fun classic.

Lovely game and a perfect execution of what a remaster should look like.
