Soul Light is a story of a young, simple girl that is forced to accept her magical gifts on a quest to save her village.
The Story & Writing
You play as Kaya is a simple herbalist who denies her magic but when her native forest begins to die, only she can save it. You're joined by Hary, who is charismatic, adventurous and is skilled in fire magic. Along the way you meet a mysterious yet self assured witch named Anna who joins you on your quest.
The game's routes are determined by two things depending on what your choices are. Light and dark or relationship based choices.
There are two romantic routes, both female. And while there is tasteful nudity it is not graphic or lewd, some kissing and suggestive text but nothing really spicy.
The writing in this game is not as polished as the developers' more recent games. It is the use of the English language and its modern slang and use of curse words that break the immersion. Using phrases such as “Did Kaya, like, walk us out”? Followed by “Like, yes”. I don’t envision fantasy characters speaking in such a way or using common modern curse words. For some the use of language might not be an issue and the story is more important. However as a fantasy lover, language used in this way broke my own personal immersion in parts of the story.
Also as another reviewer pointed out the game does have a tendency to switch around pronouns for characters and objects throughout the story. You can still understand what the text is trying to say and it does not hinder the meaning of the story at all, it is just very noticeable.
Game-play & Features
The settings are the basics for the most part, skipping choice options, volume, rollback side, text speed, and screen mode. The main menu houses a gallery which captures all the special moments artwork. You can also hide the hud by pressing H if you’d like to take screen caps. There are also lots of save slots for saving important choice moments.
The text colour is white outlined in light blue. I would personally have preferred if I could change the outline to black. The lighter colour was probably chosen to blend into the colour palette of the art but it does make it harder to read since the background behind the text is also white.
The game is polished, not bugs or crashes and runs well in widescreen.
Graphics & Sound
The artwork is gorgeous in this game. Backgrounds and main character art blends very well together. Magical and vivid. And the chibi art is adorable (in all of Vorobushek’s games the chibi’s are so cute) and well done.
The characters are not voice acted. Whether you prefer this is a personal preference of course but something to note. The soundtrack is upbeat, and reminds me of the music you hear in old school rpg’s. It goes with the fantasy theme of the story for the most part. There are some ambient sounds sprinkled throughout as well.
Overall Experience
The story in this game compared to others I have played from the same developer is not as in-depth. It is more simplistic. Character developments are not as deep. The story is charming and all light choices do not mean you get the best endings and the same with the dark choices, it is not as straightforward as that.
The romance is present in the game but it does not shine as a core part of the game. This is due to the lack of character development. The story and characters need to be fleshed out more for us to care about them and get invested in what they feel. This story is too simple to get to that level.
I enjoyed the game but took it at face value. I realised it was not a narrative experience I would get deeply immersed in and accepted it for just a fun, cute story. 🤍

All in all a lovely game. At first I was worried if it would fall into the YA Novel Tropes pitfall, but as the game progressed on those wories were cast away.
I think the writing and the characters are pretty nice and the 5,70 Euro I paid quite well worth.
The English translation was at times a bit bothersome as it has a tendency to switch around pronouns for characters and objects willy nilly. Some translations were unnatural but still understandable though there were 3-4 times I had to use a bit of imagination to get what was meant.
I would say the translations are not flawed enough to greatly hinder one's reading experience, just a bit weird.

I will be like this game: with 2 languages (and English is written not so good as Russian)
Good novel about journey of our female lead with 2 other girls, which we will learn closer on our way and will make one our dame of heart.
Setting has some unusual ideas and overall there is depth to the narrative. Story is short, but involving, linear, with temporal branching on 2 routes.
There is seven endings (and sadly no harem one, why so, my heart is not so small to not fit everyone), but choice requirements for them are a bit too strict.
Yuri is very cute, there is no explicit love scenes, but instead a lot of warm moments and some intimate developments.
Visuals are vivid, especially the music. Drawings are beautiful, detalization and resolution of images are splendid. And I pretty like these notes of Slavic culture on clothes of the girls.

Ah yes, this short, but interesting game. I was very fond of the artstyle that is definitely based on very specific cultural roots you don't see often in this anime-esque style. It sticks the landing just so between cutesy and more realistic proportions. This is certainly a non-standard catgirl protagonist design if I have ever seen one.
But that's not what truly matters is it? The story of Soul Light is interesting no doubt, the worldbuilding is definitely there. It just falls a bit short on the tale it actually wants to show us. Anna and Hary are charming without question and Kaya's concept is at least servicable, but the game lacks the events to really connect everything. It feels like a somewhat simplistic journey with somewhat arbitrary choices and endings. There needed to be a little more investment in the characters beyond the two or three things the game focuses on I feel. This leads, at least in my perception, to Kaya's lack of personality or investment. Maybe I am wrong and it is intentional considering her power of Oneness and how emotions are tied to it, but I found Kaya a profoundly boring protagonist.
And perhaps this is not even the story's fault, but something to do with the English translation. It appears to me that it was done by someone who is fluid in English, but also not comfortable enough with it to make the wording sound natural. It is better than a machine translation by any means, but a proof-reader or two would have gone a long way to make the game less stilted (the constant misuse of pronouns is a very obvious example).
Overall I can tell the effort put in here and hope that a sequel or another story in this world can expand on it properly, because the worldbuilding was truly the most memorable part to me. I guess what I really want to say is that I would like more of this please. 6.5/10.

Very sweet little VN about a girl tasked with saving her village with the magic she's yet to awaken, along with the fox girl and witch she meets along the way. A nice short story with multiple endings that was well worth the read!
+Love the character's design - each of the characters had their own personality that I think the artist really captured in the smaller details of the CG, sprites, and chibis.
+Love interests - I though they were both nice love interests and wanted to see both of their stories equally.
+Music was pretty good throughout, a little stronger in the last half though.
+Length - Took me about 3.5hrs to get through Anna's route on Auto-Play and another 3hrs to go through Hary's route and get the other endings.
-Translation - Great for the most part, but as someone else mentioned could have used an English native proofreader. A lot of pronouns were mixed up. Honestly, the overall translation was fine and most were mistakes that I could gloss over.
-Endings - The Good endings were cute and nice, but it wasn't intuitive how to get those endings... Took me a few go throughs before I got Anna's good ending. Need to only do Neutral responses and your love interest choices to get their good endings. Since you get "Light/Dark" points I would have assumed the good endings were getting all Light points or all Dark points with your girl of choice.
Ultimately, it was a nice read and I recommend!

Story of a girl saving the forest. Very cute anime animal-eared girls are inside! 2 interests to have romance, multiple endings, chibi characters available, and nude exists.
