A lot of people have given negative reviews because the game changed quite dramatically, which actually was a good thing because it became more original. Also, the devs very quickly addressed the main issue of it needing combat for items.
But yeah, we were all confused and lost when version 0.4 launched, as it was a completely different experience, and none of us had a clue what to do.
Right now there is no story, no tutorial, no guide and completely bonkers monsters. But it’s a survival game, not an RPG.
The developers (yes, there is a team of them yay) listen to every bit of feedback and respond very quickly to feedback - and I mean within hours of a problem being highlighted, there is a Hotfix for it.
I am recommending the game, BUT, your guess is as good as mine where it is going and how it will end up lol.
I just know that (once I’d gone through the steep learning curve) I’m enjoying playing it and looking forward to more content. 60 hours in, and counting.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT:
The Art style; the world is awash with sumptuous terrain.
The Animations: turn on your millstone and watch it grind.
The Crafting: it’s fun and not full of unnecessary palaver.
The Choices for Combat: massive axe or hammer, bow or firearm - there’s plenty of choice.
Character Progression: up to you if you want to be super strong and trounce those monsters, or heal fast so they can’t beat you down.
Monsters: flying ones, rolling ones. chewy ones, the variety of colourful monsters is great.

I can say for only 2 bucks this game is a great snag, but It’s kind of clunky in its current state, for example, some improvements with playing with friends could help, like making their icon show up on the map in a specific color. I kept having to ask my friend where she was, which was annoying. Another issue is that there should be a way to split items and individual pieces instead of moving a whole stack. The scroll wheel should be able to select items in the hot bar for quicker access rather than just using the number keys as well (there also should be a playable female character) On a positive note, there seems to be a lot of lands to explore and loot to find, the scenery looks nice as well. If you want to goof around with some friends and relax, it's the perfect game but in its current state ill give it an 5.5/10 I'm excited to see where this game goes.

Similar to Beached
The game is fine for its price as it is pretty cheap.
At first this game feels like Sea of thieves where u go around and collect resources.
But when u start building and crafting it has similar mechanics as Valheim and The Forrest.
There is RPG elements in it as u can level up and assign stat points.
The enemies are okay, but u gotta grind ur levels for different parts of the map and dungeons.
It also has a quest system that will hold your hand and show you all the different things u can build and craft in the game, granted that it doesnt show u where u can get the materials. Now u dont have to follow the quests but they will stay at the top left of ur screen even if u do them all.
It's pretty fun to play with your friends, but beware as there is team damage so u can really ♥♥♥♥ with them :)
So if u wanna try out this game without paying, i would reccomend u to try BEACHED as its pretty much a copy of this game.

as mentioned by others, this game is very surprisingly similar to valhiem and a tad of SOT feel and a small feel of old 7dtd. for $1.99 USD if you can afford to not try it. :)
it gets addictive and by the time you are ready to call it a night, you suddenly realized how involving it became.
cant wait until they get the option to create PrivateServer/ p2pgames with passwords.

I bought this game for 5 bucks, and my hopes we're not high, as I buy A LOT of survival games (its been my fav genre for years now) that go nowhere. The original game really bummed me out, but when I saw the dev had put out a new version, I was excited and went with it. Well, color me happy when it feels much more like a survival RPG than it did before! I'm still not 100% sure what to do, but I'm following the lines of many survival games, and just trying to stay alive. Enjoy the game quite a bit, def worth the 5 bucks I spent. One buck and hour: that's my motto. I'm at 15.5 hours, so worth it!

As a WIP. This is fun enough as a sandbox.
Yes, the game had a major overhaul, changing it from a generic asset cluster, into something more of its own thing.
But, I had major performance issues with the previous iteration of the game, to the point where I’d sunk some hours in, and it chugged down to .5 fps, or worse. It became unplayable.
This current work in progress, runs pretty smooth, it’s a little stuttery at time, and I notice that “enemy” assets are loaded in at ridiculous distances, it’s fun enough, seems capped at level 30 for players, but it’s super easy to cheese the monsters that are OP to farm them, for mats and levels.
Do yourself a favour, if you’re struggling to fight monsters, run around with tools and mats to drop down a foundation every now and then. Set its height to be just high enough to jump onto. Then you can stand in the middle with a bow and arrows, and go ham.
I’m keen to see where the game heads. Looking forward to monsters and biomes to be added, that are seemingly not present in the current state of the game as at time of writing.
It’s not for PVP chads, it’s more suited to farmers, builders, and a bit of fun.

Best two bucks I ever spent!!!
I've played it for 22 + hours and I'd have to say that it's easily worth a dollar per hour. I'd gladly pay 20 bucks for a game this good!!!! No buyer's remorse here at all...
Update:
The current state of the game is nothing like it used to be. This version has much to be done for it to even be considered a game. You can't even build a house or arm yourself with any decent weapons. At level 0 I was getting killed by level 7 pirates who just hit me once. The spear and the clubs are just too slow to be of any practical use. Were it not for the coconuts and the occasional wolf my character would all but starve to death! There's nothing even remotely useful to me that I can craft without iron and all I have access to is copper. THIS IS NOT A GAME. NOT YET. And not even as much of a game as it was when I submitted my first review of this game. It was actually better then because you could build stuff and loot stuff and find decent weapons that wouldn't break after a few swings! Now, even from the chicken chests that's all you get ...superior JUNK. Which would be awesome if they weren't already broken or near broken with no way to repair them. In the user interface all the tabs seem to be place holders and there's little to interact with there. There are no tool tips and nothing is as intuitive as you might expect. You'll find lots of empty bottles and lots of fresh water ponds to drink from but you won't be able to fill the bottles and that means that if you have them in your inventory they're just taking up space. There are tons of mushrooms on the islands and you're supposed to be able to eat them but my character starved to death with a backpack full of them ...all the different kinds!
To the developer:
I would suggest that you first make the game play doable before you try to make it hard.
