Dark Days
You are Carter. A lone hunter stationed on the isolated island of Colbrook. Everyone on the island has either been infected with some kind of bacteria or is in a state of survival. Your objective is to escape the island alive and save as many survivors as you can! The game has a compelling story line, with various character involvement and cinematic cut scenes.
In this top down zombie survival game you must scavenge areas for crucial items, survive waves of zombies, search for any survivors and secure safe houses. By securing safe houses with survivors and repairing your barricades you will be able to fast-travel in the game. You will be required to craft important items that will help you on your quest. You will also have access to multiple weapons, such as hand guns, assault rifles, powerful shotguns, a crossbow, throwing knives, cocktail molotovs, explosive mines, grenades and more. You will also have various melee weapons to break crates containing items to craft or simply to defend yourself when you’re out of ammo.
As you progress in the game you will find blueprints that will unlock new crafting skills. These skills will be indispensable for creating medic packs to heal yourself, sticky bombs for breaking down important doors, lock picks for gaining access to secret areas or for crafting several other weapons. The game also has optional side quests like collecting important letters that will give insight on the infection or completing achievements.
The different infected you will encounter:
Slow Zombies – Relatively easy to kill, yet can appear in mass.
Runners – Fast zombies with more resistance. Will add a new level of stress!
Zombie Beasts – Slow, yet very resistant and very strong. Don’t let these guys touch you! Game Features
- Try to escape the island and the infection
- Find survivors and secure safe houses
- Scavenge the areas and then craft your weapons and items
- Buy new weapons in the optional shop
- Collect letters and obtain achievements
- Try not to die

It's very promising for something this early into development.. The graphics look great. The controls are surprisingly right. I'm not a big fan of those games where WSAD moves my character around and I use the mouse to click on enemies to shoot, but this game is paced well enough where that was not an issue at all. I picked up my controller and the left analog was able to move my character around!! If he makes it so the right analog allows me to aim like a twin stick shooter, this is going to be a fantastic game! PLEASE DO THIS! Also, this game has a really great ragdoll physics engine. After you shoot down a zombie, you can sort of kick him around for a bit before he disappears.
The bad? It's got issues. Not the kind of issues you want in a game. In my case, I can't click on the inventory button in full screen mode. Just not possible. In windowed mode if you maximize the window, it works fine. So that's something I expect will get fixed very soon, the developer already stated in a thread that it will be looked at asap and will make a hotkey to open the inventory as well.
Let's start the patch train, I'm quite impressed so far.

I think a critic should state their likes and dislikes before they do a hatchet job on some style of game they didn't like to begin with or know much about..So I normally play pipe puffer empire building games, the more boring the better and I'm into my 68th summer so zombie shooters are not my staple by any means." Dark Days" seems certainly OK,fine, and any short comings could be my fault rather than the games.
It looks ok not great but certainly functional,I used my Sidewinder 2 joystick and my Logitech Precision controller and both ,surprisingly, worked well.I found keyboard control fine ,pretty easy really .Not a lot of assistance getting up and running but enough for me so its heaps really. No crashes, bugs, bad boogie woogie, it ran well and was fun.I'm running it in Win7 64 bit and it runs this game superbly.
Things I didn't like much are ( 1) inaccurate gunfire. I was raised in the 1 shot 1 kill era but it seems even at a few feet aiming is quite impossible in this game, so its blast away,Blam, blam, blam ,tripple tap, fortuneatly there is plenty of ammo everywhere ,the game must be set in the US of A (2) .I found zombie bashing with your chosen chunk of 4x2 frankly a bit feeble.Never mind, maybe Zombies are new age sensitive guys and don't need a good biffing to take a dive..(3) The aforementioned Zombies are very noisy and it gets a bit annoying rather than scary after a while.
This is a good game ,cheap as , its works and is fun now -it can only get better.Yep, worth buying...

There are better options, but the price point is decent.
Cautious recommend, controls are rough and I can't say the game is too amazing.

Needs several more levels, quests and larger maps to explore but overall this game has great potential! I love the eerie feeling and fast-paced action. Looking forward to updates.

so far have to say that this game isn't bad. it's got a few issues that i would love to see fixed, for one controller support would not be all that hard in this game, twin stick controls and triggers (but that's just me being greedy :p)
maybe change the cursor to a targetting symbol so i can see where i'm aiming a bit better? also could we get a system that allows us to give survivors a weapon to aid them so i'm not feeling like i'm playing babysitter? I love zombie games, but i hate it when i feel like i'm stuck as the babysitter ><
Otherwise? game's pretty good so far. Would definitely recommend to a friend who likes games like project zomboid and other top down survival/zombie games.

Found dark days to be enjoyable and challenging. The only drawback is the re-spawn in each zone and locating survivors to fortify each of your safe houses. Every time you return to a zone you have to engage the zombies even after you cleared the area before. Complete mission in each zone the run past the zombies in the zones you already completed. Over all it's not a bad game I won and received for free on Steamgifts and I give it a thumps up
