This game was played in its entirety on a Macbook M1 Air (8gb ram, 7c gpu).
I'm not going to review graphics, sounds, or gameplay, the way I normally would for most games.
I started playing computer games early in life. Among the earliest games that I played that I still remember was Captain Goodnight and the Islands of Fear. I just couldn't believe that a game could do such things.
Then, over the years: Dungeon Master, Starglider I/II, Faery Tale Adventure (Amiga); Space Quest, Wing Commander (DOS); Pathways Into Darkness, Myth (Macintosh); and lastly, Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox) were added to a small group of games that redefined what I thought could be possible to see and experience in a game.
Chicory immediately joins that group of elite (to me) titles.
Chicory is just amazing. I feel that, if it is possible for you to do so, you should play this game. I just finished Nine Sols, and it's by far the best Metroidvania I've ever played. It doesn't come close to the brilliance of Chicory.
To paraphrase one of the developers in the epilogue (yes, you get to chat with them!): "I hope you can continue to find wonder and amazement in life."
I don't know what else to say. Please, play it, if you can.

it perfectly depicts what it’s like being a beginner/amateur artist and then the depression/jadedness that comes with being an experienced artist. Both feel as if they’ll never be good enough and always compare themselves to other people. As someone who's been an artist for years, It hit really close to home for me, I found myself relating hard to the main character you play as and Chicory herself during their moments of self doubt and growth. It also does a great job exploring the joy of creating and just making the world a better place by bringing some whimsy to it with your art & coloring, how art speaks to everyone and there will always be people who love your work(and those who are more critical about it). The soundtrack in this game is absolutely gorgeous too. I literally go out of my way to go back to specific areas over and over again because I just love the music in certain zones. I really appreciate the game’s message overall about art. It basically does the same thing I’ve been preaching for YEARS which is anyone can become an artist and enjoy creation as long as they want to do it and put in the time and effort 🎨

Maybe I am not the best person to write reviews. Heck, I haven't even wrote one in a long time.
The first time I played this game, I was (and still am) in a hazy and apathetic period in my life. I never appreciated what I have done in my life up to this point, always pleasing others before myself. Like the protagonist, whom I called Lasagna, I struggle to find meaning in my life.
As I progressed in the game, Lasagna, despite their doubts, found meaning in wielding a paint brush. They were hesitant at first and barely even colored the world around them. However, the more they colored the more confident the protag became + finally doing the things THEY want to do.
This inspired me. I can be the same. Maybe someday I can truly be myself. For now, I have to find my brush and color my life.
Anyways, 10/10

this game is great for those who want something out of life but feel like they'll never be enough and thus never deserve to be happy.

I have played this game fully twice on another account, so I can confidently say that this game CHANGED me.
This game's experience is unique in a way I can safely say I haven't seen in other games. Its art style is comforting and quaint, but the subject matter is serious and treated with utmost respect.
The game is not meant to be difficult whatsoever. It is more story-driven and encourages you to take the time to explore the world, create art, and decorate everything to your heart's content. Whatever you do, I encourage you to play as much as you can and explore as much of the world as you can.

Genuinely one of the most calming yet engaging games i've played. I love the freedom of expression it provides and while I haven't beaten it yet, the story is genuinely so well made.
.... Bonus points for being able to draw Chicory with a fat ass.
