Dark Notes
Dark Notes is a dark suspense plot puzzle game. It is a new style of puzzle new work tried by the Black Book Studio under the Paper Bride team.
You will play the two protagonists, traveling through time and space, to explore the secrets hidden in the happiness mall!
When the truth gradually becomes clear, a secret closely related to the two people shows surfaces…
…what you want to believe is the perfect Fairy Tale.
【Game Features】
– Dual protagonist perspective, a different experience
You will play two protagonists, gradually piecing the dark truth in various times, spaces, and perspectives.
– Multiple truths, layers of reversal
The border between truth and lies is gradually blurred. It is so difficult to distinguish just like the Möbius loop.
– Brain-burning organ puzzles
The carefully designed puzzles are closely matched with the treacherous plot, which brings players brainstorming experience while leading the plot.
– Closer to reality
Deserted mall, flickered lights, depressed restaurant give you a more realistic immersion.

For the most part, I enjoyed this game. Illustrations were nice and the majority of puzzles ranged from easy to average. A few had me scratching my head for a while and a couple were really obscure and didn't make much sense to me (using the mascara and lipstick for instance). They were satisfying to solve though and it was nice to see the ability to switch between characters in the last chapter. I wasn't keen on the timed based puzzle with the tentacle boss towards the end and I think the difficulty could do with lowering on that. I only made it past the first part and decided to skip it. I encountered a single bug with one of the assets not showing, so I couldn't complete that puzzle which was a shame. The menu could do with a translated language button on the start page as the options are in Chinese by default, so I had to go through and guess where to change it. A minor detail but could put off us lazy westerners.

The game is about a young man who enters a haunted mall in 2010 because he sees a mark there that's identical to the one on the back of his hand, and which means he'll die in 10 years. He carries a journal with which he can contact a young woman who's exploring the same place, except in the year 2020.
While the premise sounded intriguing, I found the game overall less atmospheric than the devs' better-known Paper Bride series. The puzzles are also easier in general and the story less interesting.
If you're a great fan of the Paper Bride series, this game should scratch that itch, but it's not as good as any of the PB games.

Easier than the Paper Brides, but still enjoyable !
A couple of puzzles didn't really make sense to me, but globally it was nice !
Definitely doesn't deserve the 'mixed' score.
If you like Paper Bride, give it a go !
