Lots of bad reviews for the game, don't be fooled by most of the people below.
The game has bad qualities, for sure - the UI/World Map is a mess and navigating from track to track because of it can be a chore and take time to get used to, there is an in-game currency that gets you cosmetics which are also tied to crates, another terrible feature.
However, these are genuinely the only bad things about the game, as a Trials fan for over 14 years having played them all, I would just be lying if I said the game itself was bad - neither of the above bad qualities stop you from being able to do anything whatsoever, achievements, medals, everything is accessible so the cosmetics can simply be ignored.
The gameplay, is just like all the other Trials games, the bikes have an ever so slightly more 'sticky' feel on ascents compared to prior ones, but unless you are an avid player and somewhat advanced compared to a fresh player, you just won't even realise that fact. The movement is precise, clean, rewarding and fun to learn and master, it's essentially a brutal platformer like Super Meat Boy, but with a bike and physics, the difficulty starts off tame until it reaches a level of difficulty that to a newcomer, at first glance will just seem impossible until you begin to master and understand some concepts.
The majority of bad reviews I read are people complaining about either the physics or bike not acting as they do in real life, microtransactions of the difficulty - the truth is, the physics are actually, exactly like real life but with some exception, torque in this game is increased slightly which will make some 'climbs' seem impossible and the effective weight of the bike is also lighter than it would be in real life, that is it. The physics of the game taking those into account, act exactly as you would intuitively expect them to, people who write bad reviews due to this are honestly just not very bright people I'm sorry to say, I implore you to see for yourself.
Second bad review concerning the difficulty and the ease of control of the bike is similar, these negative reviews are truly people that are either A) bad at games, simply put B) expecting a racing game they will complete every time, but get faster (Forza but with a bike essentially) or C) same as above, people not understanding physics and weight distribution nearly as much as they thought they did, the game highlighting this upsets them. This is not that game, anyone familiar with I Wanna be the Boshy, Super Meat Boy, DYE, Celeste etc, will understand - this is exactly what type of game it is, it is designed to test your patience, skill and perseverance, you are expected to fail, fail and fail again, struggling on obstacles tirelessly getting your ass handed to you until you learn and adapt, that's what type of game this is and people who don't realise this, get themselves into something they are just not ready for or able to contend with.
Seriously don't be fooled by the reviews, the gameplay, progression of actual skill in the game and the sense of achievement you will get in this game for challenges and overcoming obstacles after practice will be second to none found elsewhere, the Pros massively outweigh the Cons and I really do hate the cons, I hate what Ubisoft do to franchises, their Uplay BS and predatory currency crap, they turn everything to crap - in this instance though, the positives still massively outshine them and you would be missing out on a hidden gem, all because of some salty noobs and women who literally can't play the game to save their lives because they are terrible at them and don't understand physics or because of people flaming about (fairly as well remember) microtransactions and such, just keep in mind it is purely cosmetic and just ignore the lot, I've never touched them or cared about them and happily completed everything in it's entirity.
If you consider yourself good at games and like a challenge, go for the 100% on this and Trials Fusion, you will actually be thanking me later.

Hadn't been able to launch the game for over a YEAR but I found a workaround. Open Powershell as administrator, change the directory (cd then space) to where Trials Rising is located.
For me it's: cd 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trials Rising'
then type: Start-Process ".\Launch_Trials_Rising.exe" /offline
This DOESN'T keep it offline. I was still able to play online once it launched. Controls look a bit broken but as long as you know how to play and navigate menus, you'll be sweet! Great game, TERRIBLE launcher!

Trials Rising is a masterpiece of a game in and already excellent series. Another perfect combination of platformer and physics, loaded with content and fun ways to compete with friends without having to play at the same time as them (while still having the option to do so). Super high skill ceiling makes the game very challenging but rewarding.
I think the Steam version had a hiccup where it wasn't playable for a while but it's fine now. When I booted it up it crashed, then I booted it again and it was fine, and the exact same thing happened to my friend. I used to play this a lot on PS4 but now that the Steam version has achievements added I'd much prefer to play on here. Still has lots of community content like tracks, player and bike customizations, etc. There's microtransations for some extra tracks and bikes but they don't ask for more than a skin in your average live service game would cost, and there isn't very much of it here anyway. Most of the DLC bikes feel gimmicky and barely usable anyway, Mantis (base game bike) will always be supreme.
Insanely fun and addictive, and Steam version is at it's peak right now since the latest update a few days ago, works fine for my friend and I despite other reviews that mention the game not launching. I assume it was a bug they fixed.

Unfortunately ubisoft is a garbage company that has no intention of properly supporting stuff they make. It seems I am one of the lucky ones whose game functions, and that is why I am giving it a recommendation.
When the game works, it is amazing, by far the richest entry in the Trials franchise with really good progression, tutorials, level design and depth, customization etc. (not to mention the track editor, meaning players also can and have created masterpieces). Also they didn't need to go this hard with the soundtrack but it is really solid.
Download the demo and see if the game opens for you, if it does, it is definitely worth it on sale, maybe even full price.

First of all, I have about double the playtime that it says I have, I play offline sometimes.
The only problem that this game has is ubisoft connect. But the platforming and physics in this game are easily the best if have ever touched, once you really take the time to get familiar with your bike, getting better and beating high scores feels really rewarding. Shame that theres basically noone online tho.

I had this game on my Nintendo when I was younger, I loved the game so much I had to get it on steam aswell, just fun to play on your own and with friends.

There's a lot of gross Ubisoft-ness about this game, but this is still one of my favorite games I've played. It's a lot of fun, enough fun to look past the flaws.
