The alien monster invaders have left Bricksburg in ruins and taken Emmet’s friends! It is now up to Emmet and a host of heroic characters to go beyond their world and save their friends from the strange inhabitants of the Systar System. Journey into outer space, discover new worlds, and test your Master Building skills. Everything is not awesome in the game adaptation of The Lego Movie 2. Emmet may be as happy as ever, but his smile contradicts the true state of things. The world around him has transformed into a wasteland of bricks and sand, and the gameplay that previously put his misfit group of heroes on grand adventures has similarly fallen apart and is a ghost of its former self.

So, I played *The Lego Movie 2 Videogame* from start to finish—yes, I even went the extra mile and 100%ed it (because why not?). And I’ve got to say, I’m pretty indifferent overall. But here’s the thing: while the game has its ups and downs, it’s actually a pretty solid experience, especially if you’re willing to look at it on its own merits.
Let’s start with the gameplay. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is. Sure, it still has you collecting studs and unlocking characters, but *The Lego Movie 2* takes a different approach. It leans into an open-world, Mad Max-style experience with a hint of resource management, and even throws in some boss mechanics that feel like a nod to *Shadow of the Colossus*. It’s basically *Lego Worlds* on a budget—less sandbox, more structured open-world with random quests and collectibles scattered about. It might not be what everyone was expecting, but I appreciate that they tried something different.
Now, if you’re in it for the story, I’ve got some bad news. It’s pretty much nonexistent. There’s not much of a narrative here, which is a bit disappointing considering the charm and humor the Lego games are known for. But hey, if you’re here just for the gameplay, this might not be a dealbreaker for you.
As a standalone game, without comparing it to the other Lego titles, *The Lego Movie 2 Videogame* holds its own pretty well. It’s fun, the changes are refreshing, and it’s a decent way to kill some time, especially if you’re a fan of the movie. But if you’re expecting it to stack up to the other entries in the Lego game universe, you might be left wanting.
Oh, and one last thing: don’t take my word for it. I mean, what do I know? I’m just the guy who went and completed everything the game had to offer. Maybe you should listen to the 50% of people who didn’t even make it past level 2 instead. They clearly saw something I didn’t!

This LEGO game is pretty amusing but just not as polished as the other games.
I got stuck in the scenery quite often when exploring and that sucks!
Graphics are good, sound is also decent, game play wise this should be fun but the getting stuck in the scenery situation should not be in a game like this.
They had a pretty simple job in making this fun to play for a lot of people but they really fucked it up this time as i got stuck in two spots in less then an hour playing.
And that is very bad!
If i would rate this then i would just give this a 5.5 out of 10 points.
And that is just because of the game breaking bugs and glitches when you are really exploring the maps.
Sorry but this is unacceptable!
Would i however recommend this somewhat broken instalment of the LEGO movie?
Barely. Yes i would recommend this one but only if it is dead cheap.
Somewhat recommended!

Honestly, I may have been too harsh on this game. Kinda. It isn't terrible but don't play split screen. Open world games like this one low key suck with split screen.
As far as story, its pretty mid. If you want to know the story, you're better off watching the movie. This game doesn't retell the movie good at all.

The conventional format of Lego games are that they roughly follow the media they are based upon, in other words; if you play Lego Star Wars, the game will loosely revolve around the Star Wars movie's plot. Unlockable characters possess various traits which helps you progress the heavily linear levels. If you purchase this game expecting it to follow the norms of other Lego games, you are most likely bound to end up disappointed.
This game (Lego Movie 2 Videogame, abbrv. LM2VG) takes a different direction, instead of a central hub where you select a linear story level, there are many differently themed worlds reliant on non-linear open world exploration, with some containing story missions and most containing plenty of side missions. In many regards, LM2VG is very similar to it's cousin game Lego Worlds (including it's respective flaws) which is more of a sandbox experience. This game is also VERY repetitive and padded. Keep this in mind if you are looking to buy The Lego Movie 2 Videogame and perhaps consider holding out until it goes on sale.
LM2VG is in general pretty good and worthy of a recommend.

A game loosely based on the Lego Movie 2. Early Lego games has missions and free play where You could play the missions with any figurines You unlocked. Later games added open world with some collectibles and errands. This game only has the open world, no missions or free play, in which the plot takes place. Finishing the main story before exploring saves a lot of time... and leave the buildings You have to rebuild for last.

I'm torn about how I feel about this. On one hand, this game shakes up the Lego game formula and manages to keep the game fun to play, making it feel like a breath of fresh air in the series. On the other hand, even suggesting that this game's story followed the movie should be considered a crime.
This game did not follow the formula that the other Lego games follow. This concerned me a bit at first, but I came to actually enjoy it as I got further into the game. Each level is essentially a mini open-world with a very simple quest line to follow, with a tiny bit of exploration being required in order to complete the level. You are encouraged to explore each level and aren't stuck following a strict level design in order to progress, which I guess makes it similar to Mario Odyssey. There are also several optional levels that can be entered and explored for more to see and do if you choose to find the collectibles and unlock more content. You can unlock new characters, items, etc at any time with the lootbox system and I didn't really have any issue with it. All of that made this game feel like an experiment before they went all in with it for Lego Worlds. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed the game considering I didn't really care for the movie at all and I found the game for the first movie to be really boring.
However, this game certainly had its flaws. The biggest one was the "story" felt like a joke and gave the impression that the entire game was built and the team only found out it was supposed to be based on an existing movie in like the last month of development. There's like 6 levels for the main story (half of them might have just been based on nothing from the movie, but idk I haven't seen it in a while), the game can be beaten in less than 4 hours, and a big, important part of the story from the movie was just thrown in as a voice over in the final cutscene after beating the final level for some reason. Building certain objects in levels was replaced in this game with a sort of "free build" system where you could build any object you have the plans for anywhere as long as you have enough bricks. You will literally never run out of bricks once you finish the tutorial and every build puzzle was just needing to decide if you needed to place a generator, bounce pad, or sprinkler. The platforming was also reduced to just pressing one button and automatically jumping to the next platform, requiring no thought.
Not a bad game but definitely based extremely loosely on the movie to the point that they might as well have created an original story. Different style from the other lego games but still fun, if a bit simplistic. Went heavy into optional content while sacrificing required content, making the game extremely short but having a ton to do if desired.
