Crown of Pain is a match-3 RPG. Heroes venture to the castle to find the elusive crown of pain, an artifact which is said to take away all of their worries.
In this gritty match 3 RPG, take the role of the hero, each with their own troubles, looking for a solution, a way out of hardship. Driven by their worries, they decide to take on something that they might not be able to handle.Features
- Your team is very varied and the hero actions differ based on the color matched. Match the right elements to perform the necessary attack!
- Thousands of build opportunities! Each battle awards you with a team enhancement: strategize the way you can.
- Dark atmosphere of the middle ages: this world has no remorse and no compassion, you are on your own.
Traverse the randomly generated map, participate in battles, select individual hero upgrades and prepare unique team builds with lots of possible synergies.

The game has a really good core concept and game loop but the execution is a bit rough.
It could be greatly improved by either having a non-linear map or at least unlocking new content after each map section. Even simple things like showing combat moves along with the tile match history would help.
Still, I was able to enjoy a few hours with it which isn't bad for the low price.

Okay, so: as the other reviews state, it's not the best game ever by a long shot,
BUT IT IS one of the few decent Match-3 titles. Good pixel art and quite serviceable, if barebone, story.
Gameplay is fine, with no limit except your party's health. Also, there are many more levels than I expected, with a New Game+ mechanic.
Overall, start matching the Queen's moves!

Lovely pixel art in service of very little.
It's a match 3. When you die you don't lose any progress. Earn "faith" to upgrade your characters. Repeat until you win.
There are abilities that trigger with certain combos or when you match 4. You could probably do a challenge run, trying to clear the game with the lowest stats possible.

A wonderful blend of tactical gameplay and simple match-3 mechanic. The game is old-school and does not hold your hand, getting quite difficult at times, which is great.

˗ˏˋ 2.8 out of 5★ ˎˊ˗
Played On: Steam Deck
Story: Not much of one
Graphics:Average
Gameplay: Fine
Sound: Okay Technical Performance: Loads in slow
Game Length: 4 - 5 hours
Options: Very barebones
Originality: Haven't played enough of the genre to know if it's original
Summary: If only Steam had a neutral option. It's a RPG card matching game that let's your characters attack when you get a matching triple. It's a decent time killer. Once you beat it, you start all the way over from the beginning but you keep whatever stats or skills gained along the way. There's no new game plus and the developers don't plan on adding any. Replaying is just for getting the last bit of achievements which are grindy.
