About the GameGameplay
The gameplay of Glitchpunk is a feast for all fans of high-octane action, explosive shootouts and cyberpunk aesthetics. It is top-down action inspired by the classics of the genre, wrapped in a futuristic neon cloak. There’s plenty of guns, melee weapons and vehicles for you to choose from and cause havoc with. Experience frantic action and wild police chases while listening to futuristic beats on your stolen car’s radio.
Run, hack, steal, drive, shoot and blast your way through the criminal underworld of the future. Make some friends, make even more enemies. Kill or be killed, even if it means killing everything you love.World and Story
But that’s not all: Glitchpunk’s dystopian streets, back alleys and skyscrapers are also stage for themes like transhumanism, xenophobia and religion as well as an all too human story about relationship, self-discovery and betrayal. The sex and drug infused world of the future raises many questions, only one thing seems certain: humanity is a matter of perspective.
You are an android gifted with a special trait called "glitch": It enables you to go against your programming. Set out to destabilize the tyrannical governments of the post-nuclear world, it’s up to you to craft your own agenda. Across four unique locations filled with tech-crazed gangs, drugged-up gangs and governed by ever-present megacorporations, take up contracts, earn money and upgrade yourself.
Influence whether or not a gang leader stays on top of the food chain, or let heads roll. There might be something more for you to gain than just money: An ally, or a friend? Maybe even a lover.Key Features

I see potential in this game if the devs don't abandon their project and keep polishing it until it is fully complete.
To speak for its current state, it's alright-ish. The main reason I got the game is because it reminds of the days I used to play GTA 2 when I was a kid.
I hope devs keep supporting their game and improve it in the future.

Tl;dr: this game is very hard. Very pretty, but very hard. I enjoy and recommend it, but there are very good reasons not to get it.
The game is definitely in Early Access, which shows but also leaves room for improvement.
Pros, as I see it:
I love the art style. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the aesthetic.
I enjoy the intro/hook, and it leads into potentially good story
The factions have personality
The soundtrack is very fun
Cons:
It's very hard. I'm not very good at games, and running on not the best laptop, but even that aside, it really needs to be toned down. Police chases are *ridiculous* and take like five minutes to cool down, but they're also scripted into the missions in kinda unavoidable ways.
The system requirements seem higher than I would expect. It is very pretty, but seems kind of strange.
There's not yet much to do (yet) other than very hard missions and very hard "headhunts" where you have to kill groups of ten cops/gangers in a very short time. You can also kill citizens for money, but it gets very grindy very fast.
The Devs only seem to post updates on Discord, which I do use but prefer other platforms for updates. They say they're working on it...again...rather than still...which is concerning...would like to see more communication here and on twitter.

I don't understand why the hate against this game. Its a great GTA2 alternative, but its more than just a skin.
The cars are indeed floaty, but that's because they are actually hovering. You can get used to it in 2 minutes. Just press SPACE to stop if you are sliding the wrong direction. BTW, it has never been easy to drive in GTA 1-2 either, and this is pretty much the same experience imo.
The game is fun, but it's fun like we had in the 90s, so not the same experience as today's AAA games. If the missions are boring its because this game is much simpler than games nowadays, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
It is top-down view, but its not sprite based like GTA1-2 was. It's 3D behind the curtains, with a nice HUD, shaders, reflections, shadows, transparent glowing pickup indicators, fire-smoke-particle effects, slight perspective tilt, proper handling when you go under something, everything that a 3D game engine can bring.
It has tons of quality of life and overall game play depth additions compared to GTA2:
- The districts look and feel different
- You can set in options how much aim assist you want. Aiming has always been the painful part in GTA1-2.
- The target indicator arrows with distance look nice and don't obstruct your view
- You can hack people, gates, etc. It's fun to see the different pedestrians stats like: age, gender, occupation, place of residence, net worth, heart rate
- You can buy weapons from vending machines on the street
- You can buy augmentations from stores, so you have that cyberpunk addition
- Lamp posts, fences are destructible
- Your cars health, weapon, ammo, gang influence is shown on the HUD
- Usable minimap and by hitting ESC it pauses the game and shows a fullscreen zoomable city map with all the points of interest that you can toggle if it feels cluttered, just like in GTA5 (no waypoints and GPS navigation though)
Is it abandoned by the devs? I don't care... Games in the 90s were all abandoned after release unless there was a game breaking bug that had to be fixed.
I actually like that they don't update the game and don't turn it into completely different game, or ruin it to make market for the sequel (like many big names do it nowadays).
It's way overpriced for 20€, but on a 90% sale its worth 2€ if you like cyberpunk themed games.

Promising But Needs Driving Fixes...
I spent 2 hours diving into Glitchpunk, and overall, it's a good experience. The game looks fantastic, reminiscent of GTA 2 but with significant improvements. However, the driving mechanics need serious attention. Maneuvering feels awkward, often leading to frustrating situations like getting stuck in corners. Despite this, the missions are engaging, packed with action. I plan to revisit the game in the future, hoping the developers will have addressed the driving issues by then...

Review of Alpha.
Been on my wishlist ever since I saw it, since it did look a lot like gta2, which was my prime streaming game for a long time, so gave it a shot as soon as I could (didnt play demo though).
Will start with positives:
+ Really does feel inspired by old gta's a lot: radio (humor and songs), gang-respect system, tank-controls in car, saves at home, burping, gouranga and other small things - pretty cool!
+ Upgrade system which carries itself into re-playthroughs
+ Multiple endings, non-linearity in area progression
Now to negatives:
- Performance - it is quite not good. Game performance degradated with time, sometimes game freezes for a bit. After some time you get used to just saving and restarting area to fix the issue, but I'd say this is the most damming thing about the game right now - when it is fixed it is going to get much more enjoyable (and it already is quite good if you can get behind technical issues)
- Visual settings - for some reason, putting game on anything below high makes it look completely different, to the point of and I'm not sure it helps much with performance degradation. I was playing on highest settings and it looks good, but I can't imagine running it on lower than High.
- This one is more of my personal complaint: Impossible to 100% an area without replaying it (and each time you restart you do 3 missions that you've already done) - something that I wish was a thing. I get that it is artistic choice, due to how story is told, but you'd spend a lot of time to find which missions you actually never got before. Kind of wish it was more like gta 1/2.
There are also some things that I think work and don't work in game-design here, but this is still very promising oldschool gta-inspired game. If you are able to look behind performance issues - you probably will find it quite a lot of fun (I sure did). I do hope that these issues are addressed asap and then I'll be waiting for more areas to be unlocked. I think devs did a good job for such a small team, but maybe it was worth getting performance to a higher level. As of right now - 7/10 from me - looking forward for more and better!

If you're looking for a cyberpunk'd Grand Theft Auto / GTA2 clone, look no further. Finally, top-down crime and auto-racing in a seedy, gang-ridden city has made the leap to sweet HD graphics. The Devs were definitely inspired by GTA2, and boy, they assembled an outstanding "adaptation".
But there's also downsides: the keyboard controls are a bit spongy, especially when steering a vehicle. If you expect the direct GTA2 steering experience, brace for some frustration. The "load / start a new game"-menu needs some UI improvements as well. Oh, and there's some glitches lurking around, too!
Nonetheless, the graphics are beautiful, the music is pleasant and fits the game's mood.
Overall, if you enjoyed GTA2, then grab Glitchpunk during a sale - you'll get a good game for a fair price!
