Fight through a world destroyed by Dr. Eggman and a powerful new villain in Sonic Forces, the new fast-paced action platformer from the team that brought you Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations. Sonic Forces lets you speed through rolling ruined landscapes as Modern Sonic, catapult past perilous platforms as Classic Sonic, and use powerful new gadgets as your own Custom Hero Character.

While this game is okay at best, with mods installed from GameBanana, It becomes a A-tier level game, here's a few of them if you want to buy it.
Sonic Forces Re-imagined by brandonj
Classic Sonic Improvement Mod by The Duck Dealer
Sonic Forces OverClocked by OverClocked Team
There are many more mods, these are the big three in my opinion, with that being said; enjoy the game!

The way people talk about this game, I was expecting 06 levels of glitchy, underdeveloped mess that would kill my entire family.
But like, it's fine? I'm not trying to be contrarian or anything, I genuinely don't understand why people hate this game the way they do. Sure it's like the most average a modern Sonic game could really be, but like, I like that. There's a decent amount of content, collectables, level variety (gameplay wise, at least), I just don't understand. 100% is a bit of a grind, but most people don't 100% Sonic games anyway.
The story is melodramatic and the canon "Sonic OC" mechanic is a little silly, but I don't necessarily dislike either. It feels like a typical kids game story. I guess the constant talking might grate on people, but I play in JP and love that cast, so it didn't bother me.
Am I just crazy? I don't understand why this is such a pariah in the fanbase. I enjoyed it well enough, and for $10 on sale, you could do worse.

Not a flawless game, but I think it gets more hate than it deserves. It is short, and the writing downright sucks. But I still like the gameplay (for the most part), the level art is so detailed and beautiful, and the music absolutely ROCKS.
Absolutely DO NOT buy it at full price, but on a big sale I think it's worth checking out. I did grow up playing Sonic games though, so I might be a little more inclined to play it than someone who isn't a Sonic fan. Don't let this be your first Sonic game, though. That wouldn't be fair to yourself.

Worth getting on sale if you install the mod "Sonic Forces Overclocked". its great.
A tad tough if you're a beginner and a tiny bit of jank here and there but there's good character control, and fun + very replayable levels with neat visuals. barely any 2d in the levels too, which is rare for all of the boost Sonic games. there's so many routes and each wisp weapon unlocks more options and pathways. I've already gone through the game a couple times and will definitely do it many more times with different wisps, cosmetics, and other mods too!
9 levels in total, may take you a couple hours to play through.
the vanilla game without this mod is complete crap, don't bother.
but if you're willing to install the mod, I totally recommend it! Only 10 bux during sales.

I recently finished playing this game. I enjoyed it. It was my first Sonic game and it honestly makes me want to play others. The graphics were beautiful. The levels were really well made and required me to try. The music was fun to listen to as I bashed robots and ran like lightning. The story was good and interesting. Cutscenes were short and explained everything I need to know. I loved the character creator and all the different clothes. Since this was my first Sonic game, it took me a bit to get use to the controls but I would say it is beginner friendly if this is your first Sonic game. The boss fights were also a lot of fun and got more difficult as you kept going. The only thing I did not like was how my character would either immediately run after landing on the ground or I could not jump for a second, but I would say that is more to the fact that this is my first Sonic Game. Over all I would give this a 7/10. It is memorable and I would encourage others to try it out.

Sonic Forced to be a mediocre game but not the worse of the worst of the franchise overall.
Sonic Forces was supposed to be the grand return of the main Sonic series after the mess fest that was Sonic Boom, after getting jumpstarted by Sonic Mania and boasting the return of a gameplay style seen in Sonic Generations as well as new gameplay concepts. Everything seemed in place to create a fantastic return to form for the Blue Speedster. Instead what we got is a mediocre game that attempts to capture what made the previous "Boost" style of games so successful with mixed results. But overall decent enough to avoid being a utterly bad game, but trust me there's WAYYYY better Sonic games out there both before and after this roadbump.
Gameplay of Sonic Forces is split into 3 styles. Modern, Classic, and Avatar stages. These make up all the levels in the game outside of the occasional boss fight which have their own levels to their name.
Modern Sonic's gameplay is what you'd expect if you played basically any of the mainline games after Sonic Unleashed. Linear 3D levels with occasional 2D segments that have a focus on using your Boost and reflexes to blaze through the level. If you played previous Boost games it's a very familiar gameplay feeling from those other games just lacking in variety due to the constrained level choices. Nothing to add as Sonic plays exactly the same, with zero new major mechanics introduced.
Classic Sonic makes a return from Sonic Generations... well technically Sonic Mania but anywho. He takes on a exclusively 2D style of gameplay that's reminiscence of the Classic Sonic games on the Genesis. But like with Modern Sonic it's basically a inferior version of the same gameplay, specifically from Sonic Generations. Generally due to not really doing anything new with the gameplay style, especially once again in the zone variety department. Really the worst it gets is the single auto scrolling level late in the game. Otherwise it's just okay.
Lastly, and most standout between the 3 gameplay styles is the Avatar Gameplay style. The best part about Sonic Forces is the fact you're able to create your own little Mobian to play as. With this being one of the main marketing points of the game, you're given a robust amount of customization options between a handful of species and a insane amount of cosmetic items. As for the gameplay it's similar to Modern minus the fact you have a gun. More specifically you have a variety of "Wisp-on" to use, which are firearms that use the various Wisps from Sonic Colors. As little as it is, it does give it a slight bit of variety for the levels you play as the avatar. You all have levels where you're playing both as Sonic and your Avatar and it basically is like a mix of both gameplay except occasionally you can do a Quicktime Event to activate a Double Boost.
Style wise, it's basically on par with Sonic games of the time, not the worse graphics but not something that's winning awards with the art direction they're going for. The actual zone designs themself are pretty interesting, at least, the ones that aren't just "Green Hill but what if it was Sand?" with the standouts being Sunset Heights and Metropolis. As compared to other Sonic games Forces probably has the most bland zone variety with roughly 6 zone themes reused over and over. Which for comparison is the exact same as Colors and less than Generations and Unleashed. Music however is still mostly top notch, especially the main theme so thankfully that aspect of Sonic games wasn't completely lost.
For the Story it's simply a huge potluck of missed potential. The main plot point is Sonic being defeated by a Mysterious new foe "Infinite" and with that despite Sonic's friends having on par or better abilities for this kind of situation , Eggman is able to completely take over almost the entire world. A pretty solid story template that has been successfully used in other forms of Sonic Media, this how ever is probably the worst execution of that idea. Firstly, the game does a pretty poor job trying to feel like it's in a wartime/resistance fighting setting, the only zone theme that really feels like that is Sunset Heights. With the other zones feeling like normal Sonic zones or again "Green Hill but what if it was Sand?" Another thing to note is how much character assassination was done without proper explanation. Such as Tails suddenly being scared of Chaos 0 from SA1 despite beating him up to his 4th form, who by the way, only shows up a cutscene and never a boss. Or Classic Sonic being said to be from a another Dimension rather than Past Sonic despite literally the last main series Modern Sonic game clearly stating the otherwise. Or of course Infinite being the unintentionally funniest villain in the series, simply cause he "got whacked, cuz he's weak" and became the edgiest edge lord who is quite literally one of the easier bosses between his fights throughout game. Overall they really could have had a cool setting similar to that of Sonic SATAM and Underground, two TV shows that showcased that this tone for Sonic is possible to do without sacrificing Sonic's character but unfortunately that didn't happen.
DLC Links if I ever decided to review them since they're either just Cosmetics, a mini Shadow Campaign, or.... SUPER SONIC?!??! They made Super Sonic DLC?????
Overall, Sonic Forces is the big okay. While it is certainly not the worst Sonic game out there, like with Sonic 4, Episode 1 and 2 I'd struggle to recommend to actually buying the thing over other Sonic games. If you were able to get it in a big bundle I was able to do, it's a harmless less than 5 hours to finish. Since while it is pretty bland compared to other Sonic games it still was way more enjoyable to play than something like Sonic Lost World. Plus being able to make your own Sonic Character in-game and actually play them is still one of the most fun things the series has done and I extremely hope it returns in a future game in one way or form. As after all these Forces its on to new Frontiers.
