About the Game
- Genre: A fun, feline, pussle-solving adventure game.
You, a little black kitty cat, must traverse a mysterious island and its ancient puzzles.
- Dev Team: Kitty May Strike
- With adorably novel graphics you’ll love at first sight, set off by the protagonist’s raven shade and white cat backpack!
- The map’s big enough for any cat to get lost in. It’s a haven for curious kitties, the perfect place to satisfy that exploring urge.
- What’s more, you’ll find loads of stuff to interact with as you travel around the map.
- Immerse yourself in Kitty May Cry’s laid-back, quirky dialogue that’s packed with personality.
- Let’s take a look at our protagonist—a little black kitty cat who’s fallen from the skies and landed here, an island most mysterious. Having recovered their white cat backpack, our feline friend sets off on a journey to retrieve their lost batteries and find their way back to the rocket.
We start off in a coastal area, where our protagonist collects a shell or two along their way. Then they find a tram station that’s caught up in a bit of trouble. Once everything’s been put back in order, it’s a short tram trip to the mountain path on the other side of the island!
Here lies a new town: Archipelago. Our kitty pal will have to lend a paw to the locals, who need to get their ceremony back on track. The next stop is the Snowy Peaks where that rocket’s located—if our furry friend can make it through the wondrous paths that lead there, that is.
Wading through thick snow is a right pain in the tail. But our kitty cat’s not alone! With their backpack, a few rocket researchers, and a signpost or two, that rocket’s finally within reach! Hurrah!
- Head Designer, Lu Sui: Right, first off, I’d like to say “Meow, meow. Meow meow. Meow!” (Rough translation: Well, if nothing else—we finished our game!)
Head Coder & Technical Artist, Bot: Meow meow meow. Meooow, meow… (If development went on any longer I’d run out of hair to pull out.)
Artist & Map Designer, Yume: Meee-yow, meow meow! Meow! (Nice work, everyone! You did great!)
Code Migration, Laplace: Meow! Meow, meow meow! (Yeah, great job! Hope you’re all still alright out there!)
Designer, Fried Rice Guy: Mrrow? Meow meow, meow? (So, are we finally free now?)
Sound Effects, Chuanyi: Me-yowwww! (Yahoo!)
Stage Design, Homeworker: Meow meow! (Nyantendo FTW!)
We hope everyone has a brilliant time adventuring with all the characters spread across Kitty May Cry!

I do recommend this game, but it's a tentative recommendation. If you're not a fan of platform-adventure games, can't look past some game glitches, or can't forgive a game having a bad translation, then this game probably isn't for you. If these are not deal-breakers for you, then I think you can easily have an enjoyable time with this game.
Kitty May Cry is an open-world plaformer-adventure game that kind of plays like Breath of the Wild without the combat. The BotW influence seems pretty clear, with the starting area being reminiscent of The Shrine of Resurrection and The Great Plateau. The game has collectible batteries, which, like stamina upgrades in BotW, increases how long you can climb for. However In place of sprinting like in BotW, each battery gives you an extra in-air jump, which means that the more you collect, the easier it is to traverse the map. The game also gives you a parachute early on that works like the glider in BotW, further expanding your movement options. Together, this creates a good sense of progression as you continue to collect more batteries throughout the game.
Also like BotW, the final objective of the game is visible from the beginning, and you can speedrun your way to the goal. However, most of the gameplay is in completing the various side-quests throughout the map. There are also other collectibles throughout the game, including cosmetic hats you can wear, and shells you can spend at the shops for progression items or more hats. All together, there's a few hours of content in this game if you're going for 100%.
I do have a few issues with this game, though. Firstly, there are a number of annoying bugs in this game. I've run into issues like puzzle elements not respawning like they should, some triggers not working as expected, and there's one side quest where the completion trigger was accidentally removed in a game update, causing it to be impossible to complete. This game was apparently a student project, and it does certainly feel like a project from amateurs still learning. There are also some glitches and oversights that I think make the game more interesting (at least from a speedrunning perspective), but the game does come off as incomplete, and it could have benefited from getting more patches than it got.
My other main issue is that the translation isn't very good. While I was able to generally follow the plot of the game, there was often times where I couldn't completely follow what the dialog was trying to say. I don't know any Chinese, but I've put a few lines from this game through machine translation and a chinese-to-english dictionary to try and understand what's happened. My impression currently is that the translation was done by a person (or more likely a group of people) who weren't fluent in English, but wanted to sound fluent. There are a number of strange word choices that I think was the translator trying to make the text sound less formal, but don't always make sense. The worst example I've found so far is the phrase "特殊的力场" (lit. "special force field") being translated as "a special stand." While most of the translation issues aren't as bad as that example, they do add up to making the text harder to follow than it should be. There's also the classic issue of chinese-to-english translation issue of pronouns randomly switching genders, as well as some oddities with the name localizations. Overall, it isn't a deal breaker for me personally, but it could be a lot better, and I can see it being a bigger issue for some people.
Overall, I did like this game, and still come back every now and then to mess with it. It's by no means perfect, and it's probably not going to be for everybody, but if you're looking for an interesting, low-stress experience, then I think you'll enjoy this game.
