The map is your best friend. Check every door to make backtracking easy.
Keeping a cheat sheet is recommended, since some combinations/instructions are not stored in the files you always carry around. This is especially helpful for subsequent playthroughs since the answers still work without finding the clues.
You can and should examine the items in your inventory. Sometimes the object name changes, making it easier use or identify. For example to open a box, you'll have to spin it around and find the interact command.
When plot items have been used everywhere possible, they will display a check mark in the bottom part of their icon. There is no record/achievement for keeping all the items, so feel free to discard it once it's used.
Favor walking over running unless you're being chased or know an area is safe, enemies can track you by sound. Lickers and trenchcoat man use it the most, but even basic zombies become way easier to sneak by if they aren't already alerted the instant you enter a room.
There's not too much need to hoard blue herbs as a poison cure. It's a fairly nasty ailment, but only one enemy applies it during a relatively short segment of the sewers and you can even mostly avoid that with a defensive item. Maybe keep at least 1 until you're past that part, but generally the defensive buff you get from combining them with a red herb is pretty substantial and worth using.
The boards you find will permanently stop zombies from coming through a window. They are only for the first floor windows of the police station, so put them away if you're going to the second or third.
While some items stack or can be combined, there are limits for each one. Almost all typewriters are next to storage boxes, so clear up some inventory space for new things. Try one healing item, one or two guns, and maybe a knife, but even that's a lot early on.
Knives degrade slowly when you land attacks. Knives have a durability bar in your inventory menu, a durability icon when in use, and make a sound to let you know when they break.
Knives can be used to test if a corpse on the ground is still alive. Aim at their legs when you poke them, since they can grab and bite you directly from the floor.
Secondary weapons (Grenades, Flash bangs, and Knives) can save you from a grab attack, unless you're grabbed from behind. Make sure to equip the one you want if you expect to get grabbed.
After knives are used in defense, they can be retrieved after taking down that zombie. Knife durability will be reduced by 1/3 each time you use it to escape. Also, zombies can potentially wake up even after retrieving the knife.
Stunning zombies to get by is often more important than killing them. Headshots work well on Standard difficulty, but shooting kneecaps to trip them is recommended for Hardcore.
Sometimes a zombie's head will explode, which means you landed a critical hit. These are rare for pistols and submachine guns, but common for certain high powered weapons and ammo.
Zombies can open (unlocked) doors after banging on them a couple times, with save rooms being the main exception.
Generally speaking, Leon has an easier time dealing with zombies, and Claire has an easier time with bosses.
Certain records/achievements require you to play the game multiple times with both characters, so don't expect to find everything the first time.
Mr Raccoon statues can only be shot once and will never return. While the toy's red base remains in game, it's a good idea to jot down the room's name so you can focus on the rest.
Once a licker screams/attacks, either bolt for the nearest door or kill them. Weapons with stopping power are recommended.
If a dude in a hat and trench coat shows up, save your ammo and run. I hear he's slightly faster on Hardcore.

Great story & characters, but who needs a compelling storyline or engaging characters when you can spend hours collecting green, red, and blue herbs? I mean, let's be real, that's the real goal here. Find all of the colors and then combine them into that beautiful mix then stash them in that safe chest where you can ogle at them every time you try to sort your inventory. The zombies are just a silly little obstacles trying to stop you from building your herb collection especially that big guy with a coat chasing you everywhere for your lovely G+R+B herb product.
But seriously, the remake is amazing and the gameplay is so smooth. And those herbs? They're just so... collectible

Resident Evil 2 is a remake of the original 1998 game and for me is my first adventure in the series.. i have watched all the movies and now i have the complete games collection on my library. So why i don't start with resident evil 1 or zero?
It's my choice to skip them because i don't like the fixed camera angle, now that i explained my reason let jump back to my review.
This remake brings an important change for the camera , the third-person perspective retains the survival horror essence and improves it by making everything more immersive.
The story can be played with two protagonists : Leon and Claire and after if you finish one playthrough the other is slightly different and for those hungry for more content there are extra stories and a lot of challenges to complete. It's impossible to finish everything in one run or two, i decided to complete the campaigns without touching the hard achievements but more of that later in the cons section.
From the moment i entered the gas station i was impressed by the graphics ..it's a great feel to be able to play at this level of quality a game released so many years ago but now with modern textures and effects.
Character models, particularly for Leon, Claire, and the various monsters, are incredibly rendered. The facial animations are detailed and expressive.
I really liked the gore elements ,you can dismember enemies and wounds can look amazing ..there is blood everywhere and the enemies look fantastic..but they're not so smart ..you can't have both i suppose!
The tension and the fear element is present and you can really feel it, i believe its mostly due to how vulnerable you feel, but don't worry once you get to know the game areas and how to avoid enemies it becomes a lot easier.
My problems with this game was the puzzles and the stupid backtracking and the inventory management where you need to run half of the map to put a item inside an item box just to have the necessary spaces to solve another puzzle. The ammo is scarce and for greater difficulty runs you need to learn everything inside out, i also didn't like how i needed to repeat the same puzzles in my second playthrough that's lazy level design if you ask me.
In conclusion Resident Evil 2 deserves all the positive feedback it received on steam, it's a great horror game and if there are people like me who haven't played it yet ,try it and have patience because it's worth every second of your time !

Few video game series ever manage to pull away from the video game masses and reach main stream appeal.. They become something more then video games and become part of pop culture, games like Super Mario Brothers, Pac-Man, Tetris, etc etc etc.. Another one of those games which have stretched far beyond their gaming origins is Resident Evil, with movies, novels, and a slew of video games mentioning the name Resident Evil will get someone's attention..
While the original game was a complete classic, with some of the earliest known examples of Jump Scares (that dog jumping through the window still gives some of us nightmares) and a completely new and original game design, play and ideas. (No lying, if you were alive when Resident Evil 1 released you were enamored by its' uniqueness gameplay) The sequel followed suit a few years later, expanding what made the original great and helping pave the way for the pop culture phenomenon that Resident evil would become one day..
The Story - Like the original game the story features two separate playable characters and stories. You can pick between Claire Redfield, the original games male protagonist Chris Redfield's sister, or Leon Kennedy, a brand new RPD police officer. The first, second and third game seem to have some continuity errors as far as cohesive storyline goes but to sum it up, Racoon City has a viral outbreak (zombies) which has thrown everything into disarray. Leon stops at a gas station to get gas when he notices something weird going on.. He heads inside to investigate when he's attacked. Claire happens by on her way to Racoon city to search for her brother Chris. After seeing the zombies and having an issue with an exploding Semi, they start off on their horrific adventure to discover what happened in Racoon city, try to help put a stop to it, and stay alive..
Gameplay - If this was 1998, I'd go into detail about how the game works, but since it's 2024, if you don't' know how a third person shooter works then I don't know what to tell you.. The only unique aspects of the game are the various Puzzles you need to solve as you progress.... (or do like most of us do and hit up You tube. IGN, or other sources for all the information you'll ever need..
One part that has to be talked about are the Ghost Stories, during the course of the game you'll run into several people with tragic backstories, if you finish the game you can unlock (I think by beating the game, I bought the unlock all pack so I don't know for sure) where you can run an alternate reality where you can alter that one person's outcome.. The stories are relatively short, the longest one was maybe 20 minutes, they are fun and challenging experiences to help add to the experience. IIRC about 5 of them exist..
Pro's
Good graphics
very engaging,
A remake that was more then a cash grab
Relatively easy 100% for people who want the biggest E-peen available
Ran flawlessly on my 4090
Con's
Some continuity errors with the First and third games
Lots of back tracking (that's just Resident Evil I guess)
Recommendation
It's been about five years since the remake was released, playing it this last month has been a really amazing experience.. With my rather Robust library size I wanted to go in and play some of the games that I bought but never touched.. I was really happy with my Resident Evil 2 experience, I could only remember bits and pieces from the PlayStation release all them years ago, I know that some things were changed and shortened or removed to make this game work, but ultimately it felt really great to play again. I'd recommend buying it, playing it and enjoying it..
