ICEY
ICEY is a 2D side-scrolling action+META game. As you follow the narrator's omnipresent voice, you will see through ICEY's eyes and learn the truth about her world. “Alright, you caught me! This ISN'T really just a simple 2D action game, and you WON'T be seeing through ICEY's eyes… NOR will you learn the truth about her world.' says the narrator. “ICEY is a Meta game in disguise. The narrator will constantly urge you in one direction, but you must ask, 'Why? Why am I following his directions? Why can't I learn the truth about this world and ICEY's purpose here?' Fight against his tyranny, and uncover what's really going on for yourself! In fact, you can become ICEY, and let loose the shackles of your own identity. You are ICEY, and ICEY is you… if you want it that way. Feel free to keep hold of your own self, if you wish.

this game is like if devil may cry was 2d, and also if hideki kamiya decided dante should have no invincibility frames to create a game with very fun combat, up until you get grabbed and comboed into a robot, and a laser, and a machinegun, and another robot, and you get manhandled by 5 different robots until you somehow manage to escape, then you try to dodge the next grab since youre still in the huge ass robot pile but it decides not to work and you get knocked into a moving laser which stunlocks you to death. the narrators pretty funny tho so 11/10

ICEY is a fine video game, though not the 'metagame masterpiece' that some people may hope for or believe it to be. The visuals are fine (though not extraordinary), combat is well-paced and entertaining (though perhaps a bit too simplistic), and the 'story' content is moderately interesting (though somewhat heavy-handed and essentially not very novel). It is recommended to those who appreciate the genre (2D side-scrolling hack-and-slash) and an unusual story. Good but not great.
A few side notes:
1) The game is moderately challenging, but I have not found it especially difficult or unfair. I played the game on normal difficulty, and I have old-man reflexes. I understand that some casual modern-day players may find it too difficult, but playing on easy mode and grinding currency for unlocking better skills should allow anyone to complete the game.
Some people complain that you may easily get stunlocked by multiple enemies into a long recovery animation with little to no invincibility frames. It is not true. It can happen, but it's not common. Unless you do things very wrong, it mostly only happens with one particular type of exploding mob that purposely damages you while you are knocked down. It may also be an issue on some boss fights, but it is not gamebreaking.
Once you learn to dodge and to heal yourself (the game has a damage-the-core/heal-yourself mechanic similar to Metal Gear Rising), you are good.
2) I can't believe some people criticize the game for being too short. Yes, the game is not especially long, but that's not a defect. The game's length is fine the way it is.
3) The game bears an eerie number of similarities to Nier: Automata.
Enjoy, folks.

Every secret is unlocked in 1 of 3 different ways and ends essentially the same. That makes the easter eggs in this game very repetitive, I strongly recommend not trying to finding them all unless you enjoy it.
Other than that, game is genuinely fun.
