Set in a far corner of space, Valfaris is a heavy metal infused 2D action-platformer and the next game from the team behind Unity Awards finalist, Slain: Back From Hell. Brutal combat. Deadly enemies. Stunning pixel art. Savage soundtrack. Get ready to rip the galaxy a new wormhole. After mysteriously vanishing from galactic charts, the fortress of Valfaris has suddenly reappeared in the orbit of a dying sun. Once a self-contained paradise, the grandiose citadel now plays host to an ever-growing darkness. Therion, a fearless and proud son of Valfaris, returns to his home to uncover the truth of its doomed fate and to challenge the arcane evil at its very heart.

I have no idea if I would like Valfaris. I never tried it, just like thousands of other games on my hypernerd acc.
But the majority liked it.
The game suddenly got a lot of negative reviews because there was a presumably random mistake and a lot of customers got the game withdrawn from their account. At first glance, it was an unusual and suspicious thing.
However, some assign responded on the forum within hours, openly outlined the situation, apologized and solved the problem within 1-2 days.
I think that accidents can happen to anyone, as I know they treated the situation completely correctly and do not deserve to lose their good reputation.

This is a VERY mixed bag. People say this game is hard, but I think they are conflating difficulty with annoying design. It's no harder than any other game of its type, really. It only gets hard during a few REALLY annoying level segments. None of the bosses are particularly unfair.
The artstyle and presentation is fine, but the animation is a little stiff. It looks like they may have converted 3D models into pixel art instead of drawing it by hand.
I liked it overall. The final boss was a fun challenge to overcome. The weapons are varied and interesting. Good music, too.

what an incredible followup to Slain Back From Hell.
one of my favorite side scrollers EVER

Very much style over substance. That's if you're into the style. Plays like you're standard run and gun shooter with some good upgrade features and pretty solid controls. Art style is a bit of a mess as it's no doubt meant to be intentionally ugly with the 'hellish' atmosphere. The games strength really lay in leaning towards its music and animations which does make it stand out just a tad.
Overall, it's just a beefy action platformer that delivers the amount of fun you would expect. So if you're looking for a more gothic/metal tone for the genre, it's worth the price, especially while on sale.

I've yet to finish this, but I remember having a blast with this amazing platformer! And the OST is a chef's kiss!
Mainly leaving this here to help counter balance the whole "ScUmMy dEveLoPeR iS sTeaLiNg". There was a key ban mix-up and it is being resolved. Please, for the love of everything, look into these things for a second next time before blindly labelling an indie game company as thieves or scummy

Valfaris is a well designed platform game that was fun to finish.
One of the aspects of this game I appreciate is the pacing. Some platformers require a lot of backtracking trying to work out where the hell to go next which (for me) usually leads to frustration and quitting whatever game it is. No such issues with Valfaris, you never get lost which means little repetition.
The games difficulty on normal is challenging but not brutal at all.
(I only got mildly stuck on a couple of bosses - I'm not a platform champ so many will breeze through what I found tricky initially)
Game performance, audio, platforming etc are all very good. I'm not a fan of pixel graphics generally but in 4k the graphics were tidy enough.
This is an easy recommend for any fans of platforming games - especially if you enjoy some metal riffs keeping you company as you slaughter all n sundry.

This game is awesome. It's like a heavy metal Contra that starts on the alien level.
I see people complaining about the difficulty, it ain't for everyone. Like I said, it's a heavy metal Contra and that game was hard af.
