Fort Defense is a solid, no-frills tower defense game with a charming nautical theme that actually makes thematic sense for the genre — enemy ships following waterways feels more natural than the usual road-marching enemies. The pirate aesthetic and vibrant painted graphics give it personality, and the multi-level tower upgrade system is satisfying enough to keep you engaged through the two campaigns. That said, don't expect anything groundbreaking: the music loops get repetitive fast, some maps are reused across multiple levels, and the barrel-grinding upgrade system can feel tedious. The difficulty balance is uneven — most levels are breezy, but occasional spikes can force you to replay earlier stages just to farm resources. If you snag it on sale or in a bundle and enjoy classic tower defense gameplay, it's worth a few hours of your time, but there are better options in the genre if you're paying full price.

Barely OK Tower Defence Game with bad DLCs
What this game is: A Tower Defense game that is very easy and works without a hitch.
How does it work? You have to defend your naval base from hordes of invading ships and balloons. You play through 120 setups in three zones, each zone has 20 on each of three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Hard. You will use various towers to defend your base: quick but weak crossbow towers, bigger and slower guns towers, and then artillety/missile towers. Each type can be upgraded to differents capabilities that you acquire through playing. Killing enemy ships or balloons provides money used to buy towers or upgrade them, booster towers start as simple money making towers and each upgrade improves the money making capacity, last one boosts nearby towers. Each setup win provides a number of stars that measure your winning level. You get spells that will help your defense with a variety of effects.
How does it perform? It works OK without glitch as far as I could ascertain. There are no bugs I could see, everything works as it should. The entertainment value is OK, if you are looking for a time killer, then this game will provide it. The gameplay is basic though, and repetitive.
The good points: It is a simple game. It has Achievements, all of which are easy. It also has Steam Trading Cards. The game is not demanding in resources as it takes less than 120 MBs on your HD, and will run on a 10 years old PC. You can expect between 7 to 11 hours of play, depending on your style of play.
The bad points: The game is Ok, but becomes quickly repetitive. The game is quite too easy, the «hard» level is barely challenging at all. In order to complete the Achievements, you will need to grind in order to accumulate enough points in order to upgrade in the last two achievements.
My take on this: If you like tower defense games, and are looking for a time killer, you might find this one OK. That is why I am not giving a negative review here. If you want a serious and fun tower game, there are many out there on Steam that are way better than this one. Mostly for Achievements and Steam Trading Card hunters. Buy when seriously discounted, not a full price as it is WAY OVERPRICED for what it is. Avoid the buggy DLCs.

Great little Tower Defense. Barrels come slow so you may need to grind a little to get your towers more powerful
