YOOMURJAK’S RING
Jonathan Hunt, a journalist from New York, arrives in the city of Eger in Hungary for a break. He has local ancestry and speaks the language, but this is not the only motive for his visit. In the heritage of his great-grandfather, the globetrotter professor Samuel Hunt, he found two letters dated back in 1898. The letters were written by a professor Ábray, an apparently lunatic Hungarian scientist, about a time machine he claimed to have been working on. The references point to Eger, and Hunt wants to find out what happened to the man’s preposterous invention. But he soon realizes that someone is desperately trying to stop him…
Think!
Look for realistic solutions. What would be a good idea in a given situation?
Ask questions
Try to talk to everyone and exhaust all conversation topics. You can get stuck if you miss a clue.
Look around carefully
Explore every location; check if anything can be examined. It may happen that an object becomes active only later in the game. If an object would come in useful but it was inactive earlier, it is worth trying again.
Zoom and read
Enlarge objects and make documents readable by clicking their thumbnail in the inventory. Watch out for further possible actions in close-ups. Documents may have multiple pages!
Combine objects
You can sometimes combine objects in the inventory to get a new object.
Make notes
You may find it useful to make notes, just like Jonathan does. This is especially advisable later in the game when the investigation runs on multiple lines. Proceed systematically; try to focus on one subject at a time.

Developed by Private Moon Studios, this is a game which carries on with amazing plots and often difficult game play.
Yes It is a FMV game but it requires much more from us than sitting back and watching the videos. .
More than just touring the charming town of Eger we have many puzzles and much detective work to do but it's fascinating ; involving not just true history but also the premise of time travel .
My only caveat is about the controls.
Any one who has played the AGON games(by the same developers) will remember the strange controls though. They are not strictly point and click but rather more of a panning, 360 degree effect(which IS thankfully totally adjustable in the settings. )I set mine to "slow" and was fine.
In short this is a beautiful game with a strong plot and likeable characters.
Edited;
There are no "dead ends" , there is no threat(beyond being beaten up but one can avoid that happening...it's just my curiosity that prompted me to seek the "villain " out...lol)
Also you cannot die, and there are no timed events.
Now, I want to go there and YES I want to learn Hungarian!

Probably the best FMV adventure game ever made!
The story is very long and twisty and quite unusual, the visuals are breathtaking and realistic, and the actors' performance is just excellent.
I have played "Yoomurjak’s Ring" countless times since its release in 2009 in English translation (the original Hungarian version appeared on disks in 2006) - luckily, the authors have just added the subtitles to the Hungarian voices, which are great of course. Finally, in 2019 the game has been published in Steam: it does not look that new and technically advanced after all, but it is still both beautiful and very interesting.
Then again, I may be biased as I have been to Eger and enjoyed reading 'The Stars of Eger' by Géza Gárdonyi - the classical Hungarian historical epic novel (the English title being 'Eclipse of the Crescent Moon') about the 1552 Siege of Eger by the Ottomans that has the said Yoomurjak as one of its heroes while "Yoomurjak’s Ring" takes polace in our times - several years before playing the game :) But believe me - you would wish to visit that city in person after seeing it in its virtual version! All the best recommendations!

An excellent FMV adventure game from 2006 that has been upgraded to play faultlessly on Windows 10.
A long, complicated but clever story set in Eger, Hungary, involving an American journalist's
investigation into time travel.
The only downside to the game is that you have to read English translations of all dialogue
and written documents. Also the video scenery is a little faded compared with modern
interactive movies.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The story, atmosphere, puzzles, we just got pulled deeper and deeper into it. Seriously thinking of visiting Eger in the near future and poke around a bit! Btw, if behaviour of most women in the story is anything to go by, there seems to be a serious shortage of men in Eger, lol.

Made with love and care.
At first I was not thrilled that there's no English audio. And some of the translations (subtitles) are on the formal side... you know? Like when English isn't the first language of a well-educated person (if that makes sense.)
That was forgotten after the first two minutes. It's a well-crafted game with a unique charm. This is FMV at its best.
I feel I got an incredible value for my $. I got in on sale, but it's totally worth the regular price and more.
Bye, I've got to go now. Eger needs me.

If you like story rich (albeit low action) FMV games trying to solve mysteries, this is for you. My only negative about the game is I wished the map had your current location on it...sometimes you have to walk around to find a location not marked on the map by someone in the game, and several times I've walked past the place where I was supposed to be, or didn't know where I was in the town hitting an "invisible wall".

I'm a big fan of FMV games and this is one of the best I've played. It's an interesting story about messages from the past with a great mystery to unravel.
The format of FMV really suits this as you get to explore the city of Eger and discover clues woven into it's history and locations. The performances by the cast are great with all of them being interesting and memorable.
It is quite tough especially some of the later clues and I had to resort to clues in a guide. Some of the standout puzzles include a cypher, usually a laborious process but presented here in a clever and intuitive way. The way you can observe and avoid the villain of the game was really clever.
The game ran fine on my PC with Win 10 with no crashes. The only small bug was if you tried to skip the splash screens the music looped but this did not occur if you let them play entirely.
Overall I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of FMV or of more challenging point and click puzzle games.
