I bought this game for €6,59 and I enjoyed playing for 9 hours.
I wanted to learn more about trains, and I sure did when playing this game.
The game is not very big, and to some the tasks can be repetitive.
The game is very easy, no difficulty levels.
I think if you are really a train fan, you will want to explore this game.
There are a lot of mixed reviews. Now the game is a lot cheaper and might be worth buying.
I recommend reading the reviews and make your decision!
What did I like most about this game?
+ game is cheap
+ I learned more about trains
+ you get to handle a lot of train parts, repair or replace them and learn their name
+ 3 different types of trains to explore: diesel, electric and steam
+ able to drive around with a train
+ stable game, no crashes
+ in the beginning there were game breaking bugs, but they have been solved
+ there is a little bit of music, I liked it
+ I like the train driving mini game
+ ability to keep on playing after finishing the game
+ I like that the developer responds to Steam reviews / questions
What can be improved / future ideas?
- sound settings were not saved, reset after game restart
- repetitive music
- some typos in the text and some words not translated at all
- train does not crash at 75 km/h while taking sharp turn
- order listed compressor broken, but it was actually trunk broken
- order listed broken train at suburban station, but the train was actually close to steam depot
- hard to see which fuse is broken in observe view
- I was struggling with the camera A LOT. The controls felt weird and I had to manually adjust the camera a lot. Sometimes there was auto focus and sometimes not.
- steam train brakepilars on the left can be removed without removing the brake rod but not on the right side.
- sometimes I had to swap a lot between front - boiler - trunk, which is a bit frustrating
- unable to zoom out a lot
- 66% chance of repair boiler even though I upgraded all my workbenches
- missing hint I can travel to other depots
- no possibility to rebind your controls
- no Steam cloud integration
- I wanted to know more about electric trains, the game knowledge base is limited
- Train Mechanic Simulator 2024 only has steam trains (if I read the steam page)
- no steam achievements
- this game feels a bit rushed or unfinished. Car Mechanic Simulator was a lot better
- if you want to reach the boiler, you have to remove the body, and to remove the body you also have to remove the lamps?! Which is a bit illogical to me (I would leave them attached).
