The Peresmeshnik
Synopsis
The crew aboard the Soviet frigate, the Peresmeshnik, are all too familiar with loneliness. Days are spent on the cold desolate arctic sea, thousands of kilometres away from family, friends, and civilization. With no one to interact with besides each other for months on end, they know the true meaning of the word, “isolation.” There is only one constant. The sea’s cold and uncaring depths. It is said that the last frontier is space, but the crew is about to discover that the sea still hides a terrifying secret. Waiting to be found.

The Peresmeshnik is a short, choose-your-own-adventure visual novel that takes place aboard a ship of the same name. Stationed in the Arctic Ocean, you and your crew, the Soviet Frigate, discover the scene of a gruesome murder; blood and carnage lay strewn across the floor and into one of the nearby closets. The odd thing? Everyone is accounted for... so who could this mysterious body, mangled beyond all recognition, really belong to? It's up to you to find out, and to try and escape the doomed voyage in one of four different endings.
If you're a fan of campy weird fiction, akin to the many old EC Comics series' and magazines such as Weird Tales, then The Peresmeshnik is going to be your cup o' tea. Many will make a reference back to The Thing, which is another great example to bring up. To say much more would spoil the whole experience. The writing is richly detailed, but not so much so that there's a whole novella here; there's just the right amount of content to make your imagination run wild, a creeping feeling travel up your spine, and a sinking feeling take over your stomach. It's free, and it's entertaining, give it a go.
Rating: 4.5/5.0 - Excellent, highly worth playing.

It's a good, free, short text-based adventure that will take >30 minutes to complete every path. You are a crewmember among the Soviet ship Peresmeshnik in the Arctic Ocean. Crew members begin to disappear and it is your choice on how to escape the creeping terror now aboard the ship. Weird fiction fans will notice the influence of "The Thing" film. Recommended.

Let your imagination run wild with this story game! Its a quick play through with a well thought out story ark. Its taught me to trust again!
Playing The Peresmeshnik for the first time brought back memories of my survival days in Rust and Ark where I developed PTSD and an excessive amount of paranoia. I might have lost my mind the first playthrough, but I made things right eventually.
A word to the wise: Don't let that tentacle bastard get you, like it got me!

Hmm...Not sure I have a clever header for this one.
The Peresmeshnik is an interactive story that will only take a few moments of your time and reward you for your time with a well-written story that paints an interesting picture during its narrative. It's a horror-style story that holds no visuals and instead paints the visuals in your mind with its writing and nothing more.
The mood is set by some eerie music while telling you of the story of a scientist on a ship. You're already at odds with your own family while abroad and your personal life is falling apart...but to make matters worse, there's now a monster killing off the crew and assuming their identities...or perhaps assimilating them into its own race. The goal is simple, annihilate the threat and escape with your life. Question is...who can you trust along the way?
The experience The Peresmeshnik provides will only last you about 20 minutes each play if you're legitimately reading it. But if you're speeding through it, it may take less than 10 minutes. I'm not one for horror, but I applaud the effort put into this non-visual story. If you hate most horrors and jumpscares, then this is the ideal spooky title for you. You won't get scared aside from some paranoia. Everything here is just text. Good for achievements, but the story is a fascinating one to sit down and read. I'd recommend giving this one a try. If you do try it out, make sure your first playthrough's choices are what you would legitimately do (no guide). It's more fun that way.
8/10 A fun reading experience for an hour (if you do all routes).

Stylish small horror text adventure, somewhat reminiscent of "The Thing" and it's ilk. Nothing spectacularly special, but well executed for 1-2 hours of enjoyment.

This is a free game. It lasts around ten minutes, has achievements and will be particularly entertaining for those who enjoy science fiction, horror or mystery tales.
A short but enjoyable choose your own adventure game which proves that the imagination is an effective substitute for graphics and effects.
We play as a scientist aboard research vessel The Peresmeshnik. The ship is investigating the Arctic Ocean region and has discovered something anomalous on the sea bed. Just what this is, is central to the mystery of the game.
As the story progresses, a paranoia meter begins to build up, and depending on your choices this will either slowly increase or rocket up. I am not sure if this has any real bearing on the final outcome, or if it changes your choices, but it does definitely highlight how you might be inclined to feel in the circumstances.
Without spoiling too much, something bad has happened on board the ship, and it is up to you to find a way to stop it, or a way to escape from it. For fans of science fiction and horror, there will be some familiar ground. Familiar but with a nice immediacy given that we are the protagonist.
The story is good, and bar a few minor spelling mistakes, is well written. There is very little time to get to know the characters, so they are largely archetypal and the dialogue reflects this. Still, each character is given enough background to convey who they are and how they are likely to react in the situation.
A complete playthrough will likely take about five or ten minutes. To unlock all endings and achievements will take a few runs. It's actually worth trying a few different options just to see how effective you can be, or how horrifically you can mess up.
There is limited sound, but a few well timed creaks and groans add sufficient atmosphere.
There is a single music track which is creepy and fraught with tension. I really quite enjoyed it which is mildly concerning!
A fine first Steam release from a solo developer. I hope to see more from him in the future.
