The Citadel
THE CITADEL is a hardcore, brutal old-school shooter full of action that's a throwback to the 90's classics that we all love. Fight through 6 Episodes of 30 action packed levels (and an additional 6 secret levels). Face off against 6 fearsome bosses. Carry 14 different types of weapons, with obliterating secondary fire functions. Make the world tremble with 3 types of single-use special weapons. ・Unlimited Continues. ・You can continue trying until you break. Hub areas serve as respite if you find the episode to be too difficult. ・Completely skill based: no cheap Hitscanner, all projectiles. You live as good as you dodge. ・Huge enemy variety and diversity. From axe throwing cultists, to suicide drones, to mecha tanks, and flamethrower troopers.

One of the reviews says this is Doom for horny people. This is incorrect. This is Marathon for horny people.

I didn't know what I was getting into until I gibbed a hooded cultist and their severed anime girl head came flying at me.

Killer FPS for all the guro-bros out there. Gunplay is insanely hefty.
Go balls deep, my dudes.

Its like if an h-guro artist made an Ultrakill-like using a Doom engine.

Never again shall humanity purge me,
And never the Pfhor.

I really can't express how refreshing The Citadel was. Like a breathe of fresh air in the industry. Only thing I didn't like the occasionally crashes but that was more due to the engine and not the game itself.
The passion of the developer is put on full display here with clear inspiration from other first person shooters, mainly doom.
Everything from Level Design, Gunplay, enemy variety and mixups, make for a great experience.
There are a few technical issues due to engine limitations and there being too many features and buttons for a gamepad but you can work around it with bindings. Just be aware you won't have access to everything. I highly advise playing this with a Mouse and Keyboard instead of a gamepad.
At max difficulty, it almost feels like a different game. Goes from fast paced Doom with tactical elements to SWAT 4 in a good way. Highly recommend saving a max difficulty run for last.
The artstyle is definitely anime but mostly just has violence front and center. Some folks don't like the gore but it's not any worse than mortal combat or Doom Eternal.
High Recommendation from me.
