cool to play if you have a friend who would be up to play it with you instead of complaining that the game is dead

Despise how much i love this game, i cannot recommend it to others for multiple reasons that i won't list. However, Spacelords is a hidden gem full of unique (and hateful) characters, fun weapons and a somewhat unique gameplay, so, it should be played at least once while the servers are still running.
Keep in mind this is not a AAA game, is pretty rough around the edges, and due to low playerbase and it being p2p, connectivity issues will be frequent. This is also a PVP game, there is no PVE mode, don't be upset if you get paired with an Antagonist; you can always leave the match or play something else.

Don't read the old reviews since the game has been drastically changed. Now you can play all the campaigns, but the later campaigns are locked behind levels. You can't really do pay to win, even though the grinds for money are long and tedious, which crafting a talent card that serves as character perks can take from hours to seven days long! If you don't want to wait for it, you have to pay a chunk of money to get them crafted immediately. The higher level the talent card is, the more time it takes to craft, and more money it requires to bypass the waiting time.
The good thing is, it seems like the exp requires to level up didn't increase drastically each level like most RPG games do. There's also daily 5 game exp prize boost that should level you up after finishing them, after you finish your five game, you probably want to take a break cause the exp it gives after that is very low.
Every missions have different objectives, and objectives changes after completing one after another. Some level in the end have boss fights with some gimmicks to follow. For beginners, playing as an antagonist 1v4 can be really hard if you're not familiar with the objectives. Some characters definately have more advantage than the others as antagonist, some characters requires more skills to handle, some just reqular tps characters, and some characters with huge AOE damage skills and high damage weapons just makes those characters a boss themselves (Specially Valeria, and maybe Aneska, but Valeria is way more easier to play).
Anyway, if you have interest for this game, try stick up with it for a while, and you'll love it when you get your hands on the game.

If you're like me and you want to play a crossplay semicompetitive asymmetrical shooter with a gamepad on PC then you're going to want to find the config file to turn the deadzone down to 2% or so BUT wow is this game a lot of fun! Communication is very limited so you're free to go about your business as you best see fit and there's a broad variety of fairly configurable characters to choose from.
There's a lot of quirky anarchistic space western mojo going on here which is entertaining but it's also a pretty good game in the mechanical sense also. I wish I had found this years ago.

I mean... it's a fun game until you realize the company has left the servers on "maintenance" status since 2021. When I first arrived at the game I was completley in love; graphics (despite not being absolutely astonishing), are pretty much decent taking into consideration that the game is sort of 7 years old. Playstyle is fun, and it gets better when you play against an antaginist, characters are unique and upgrade system, minding the great umbalance among players, is interesting. Although, it ain't a lie that you will, eventually, get bored of the game. There have been the exact same quests from 7 years now, the same weapons and characters... no updates since god knows when. This game had such a great potential, but company just walked away giving it up. Sad, I saw this beautiful game born, and now, it is just a dusty grave with, at much, 20 players. On the other hand, here's something important: since there are not much players, queues will take A LOT on coming up, not mentioning that, already inside the game, it's preeeetty much probable that one of the four players in your team will ragequit (even two or three if quest is going bad af), so yeah... bad point there.
Nevertheless, I'd recommend to you to give it a try, it deserves it, and I guarantee that you will have fun for hours. But keep in mind that those are not infinite hours, and since the game is technically closed from the insides (no updates beyond server maintenance), you will run out of content with time (BUT the meantime is great!)
Also, good thing is that campaing is very fun, including internal mechanics and different strategies. Overall, is a great game, but it's 97% dead.(and that has its own implications on MMR). Even though, I repeat: YOU CAN ENJOY IT as long as you find a match (:

honestly my only three problems with this game are poor preformance on my potato, the lack of players and the oversexualization of characters, it's all great otherwise tho imo, you should play it for a couple hours
