As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you’ll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry privateer – or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all a space epic of adventure, exploration, and combat.

I was terrible at space combat, so I traded for 20 hours, saved up and bought a dreadnaught class ship that had 18 turrets and more broadside cannons than I can count. It's bigger than the space stations.
Now I am the space overlord. 10/10

The creators of No mans sky could have learned a fair bit from the designers of Rebel Galaxy back when this came out…
A true hidden gem. I find myself always returning to this game when I just wanna chill out to an awesome in game soundtrack and a great blast em up game to feel dominant and like real bad ass man. It really perks up my masculinity.
I really enjoyed RG for what it was, which was basically "Hey you remember those old games Taipan or Drug Wars? Well here you go... Pirate ship style, but in SPACE!"
I was apprehensive about it at first and picked it up with intentions of refunding it if it was shit, but I couldn’t put the damn thing down and I kept thinking about playing while at work or even when going to sleep, for me that is a sign of a good game.
As for the game, it is a bit hard to nail down what it is exactly, but really the closest thing is Black Flag, in space, with the running around bits removed completely. The game consists mostly of doing various missions, upgrading your ship and selling goods from place to place for a profit. Oh, and a lot of combat, as much or as little as you want really, but for me it has been a lot.
I liked the soundtrack a lot. I liked the art style. I liked the look and feel and sense of humor. It’s got a level of immersiveness and engagement that a lot of spaces games lack. The galaxy in Rebel Galaxy has more personality and more appeal to it than games like this usually do.
The combat is quite fun and strikes a nice balance between dog fighting and grindy EVE style combat. Most of the missions involve combat in one form or another. It’s really hard to get away from that in this game. I don't mind because its my preferred playstyle, but I do feel like a player who wanted more of a trading based game might be disappointed. The trading and economy things in the game seem rudimentary and underdeveloped compared to the combat aspects.
Its a great value buy at 20 bucks. Very enjoyable single player campaign. Was a good buy for me and I definitely recommend it to fans of the genre.

After 30 hours, after I've purchased my favorite ship and upgraded her to my favorite loadout with Mk 6 equipment and with the story finished. I can say I love this game, if you don't like repetition it's not for you. But if you like a chill, little to no punishment for dying, 2D space broadside combat game that still holds up 20 hours later, (Screw you IGN). Then it's for you.
This game consists of mostly repetitive activities and missions that's held up by the amazing OST and fun combat, you could pirate merchants or help them against other pirates, then pirate them afterwards. You can join the pirates or join the local militia, or have everyone hate you. A solid but not grandiose story still made me satisfied at the end. With a wide selection of ships, and how powerful equipment can get you still have freedom with what ship you choose, even in the endgame. Not every ship though- You have to say goodbye to the starter ship someday.
Though one thing, I wish I could buy an actual tankard at the bar.

Piracy in space. Well made game and definitely an impressive soundtrack. Very smooth gameplay and no FPS drops. The graphics are also good. Unfortunately, there are millions of games like this and it's no different from all the others. If you expect something more you will be disappointed. I recommend it with the discount 6/10 my rating

Me started this game: ehhhh...uh oh. I think I just crapped away some money.
Me flying out for my first mission: I have no idea what i am doing....
Me in my first combat: So, i can't shoot forward. This i s confusing. I have to face away from where I am going to fire. I don't even know what I am trying to shoot!
Me after getting my first laser turret: All I gotta do is stick on them and the laser will do all the work for me.
Me after picking up my first optional mission: Just one will be fine. I don't want to overwhelm myself.
Me after returning to a station from finishing 3 missions taken out at the same time and multiple fighter ships: Ok, i really need to add more speed to my ship. My warp drive needs a boost, and knocking up my main top speed will help. That secondary weapon will need to go on hold a little longer until I can clear out some more missions, but the missiles have been helping as well as the laser. Maybe next I can add more capacity to my cargo, so I can work a couple more missions at the same time.
I didn't think I would like this game so much, but I do. It feels like you are biting off more than you can chew from the start, but give it some time to let you ease in with some easy missions. Battles are a little weird if you are used to playing space ship games where you take a cockpit view and control a fighter....so just be ready to rethink how you dogfight.
I think the big strike about this is that there is no up or down. Everything is the same level vertically. So it loses a bit of the space feel when you can't dive or climb.
Honestly, like the Elder Scrolls games, I probably won't do the main mission....but I don't care. It is fun doing little missions or exploring. This can easily be a play how you want type game. You are in control...go where you want.

TLDR- Solid broadside ship fighter. super sexy sound track. you can alter the games music from sound files you have on your pc. ---yeah you though you were reading TLDR but you saw that and were like "THE F--- did you just say?" For real. i mention it at the end.
The game it self is super solid. it's a SEMI-YAW axis space game. so kinda like, a sea pirate game, but space style. except things can sometimes be under or over you.
The story isn't terribly compelling, there are a number of things that should be changed of course, but the combat is actually pretty solid. You have are rewarded for making good strategical decisions, and there are numerous ways to customize your ship (within some boundaries) that can actually make the combat feel sorta fps momentum style. By boundaries, i mean, you can't modify the size of your ship, you can get bigger or smaller ships, but you can't do anything to adjust their hitbox after that
The weapons are actually kinda fun. Lots of auto lazers, long range missile turrets, absurdly powerful broadsides that are oh-so satisfying when you can trick the enemies to kinda lining up on one side of you just to knock them down within the cooldown of your broadsides.
the economy system isn't super interesting, but you can definitely mess around with the buying here, selling there dynamic.
There's random encounters that are completely optional, and seem infrequent enough to add to the immersion.
but the real reason, to play this game. Is the sound track + ingame soundtrack adjustment.
You know how you've been listening to a track, and your brain paints this music video, and you think "awe man, this would be perfect for well you know what, game X has arived! you can literally set up folders for the game, where it plays music from YOUR HARDRIVE during certain things.
combat = playlist
warping = playlist
noncombat = playlist
If i remember right there's like, 2-4 other little archetypes to link songs to.
Like you're playing pool, you got a play list, you're snowboarding, you got a playlist, you're killing people in pubg, got a playlist, raiding in wow-playlist, playing a moba-playlist
these devs did it super hardcore though. they went with what (at the time) is outlaw blues. I learned about a whole new style of hard folk/blues music. There was one track that reminded me of a halo map, before i new it's name. (Hang'em High)
