Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy
...is a hidden object game. Edgar Allan Poe's ghost visits you, tasking you to uncover the mystery of his death before midnight to avoid his soul being damned.
⚙ Game Description & Mechanics ⚙
You play as the formerly renowned writer of Forgotten Cases chronicles, a series of mystery stories. When Edgar Allan Poe visits you, her tells you that you share a power he had in life: to see ghosts and communicate with them. You must look into two murder stories written by Poe, stories that harmed the investigation of the real-life murders from which they were inspired. Discovering the real murderers will right Poe's wrongs, unshackling him and allowing his spirit to move on.
In each area you visit, you will have to do a hidden object puzzle: you face a screenful of clutter and objects places haphazardly, and you're supplied with a list of specific items to find. You can click on any object in your list to be shown the silhouette of the object in question, helping you find it. Each of them also has a raven, which, when found, gives you a hint point. Those hint points can be used to show you the exact location of an item left on your list.
☺ What I enjoyed ☺
It's refreshing to have a hidden object game that focuses solely on its namesake puzzle. There are no point & click mechanics, no objects to find meant for use later, and very few out-of-place other puzzle varieties. Each and every screen is a hidden object puzzle. Once completed, you move directly to another location and another hidden object puzzle. The story is told by interrogating ghosts at each location, and from some of the key objects you find.
There are a lot more hidden object puzzles in this game than any other I have played. There is no map, no paths, no backtracking; every single location, every single panel, is a hidden object puzzle. Except for story progress purposes, you rarely revisit the same location twice, although some "real-life" locations look a lot like the "fictitious" locations from Edgar Allen Poe's stories. When you need to travel to a different place and time, you use Poe's pocket watch, and you can do so at any given time if you're stuck at a location with no clues left and need to clear your mind before continuing.
☹ What bothered me ☹
Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy suffers from a problem all too often found in these games: ambiguous translation mistakes. From what I gather, this can be accorded to MumboJumbo's Vladivostok studio, which has reportedly worked on the game. This means that some objects to be found have terrible translations. If, for instance, you wonder what a "Grinds Coffee" is, it's a coffee grinder; a "Files Nails" is a nail file. Others have abstract descriptions, and you'll often need to dissect the description to figure out the object you're supposed to find.
The game is extremely low resolution. It's not caused by being a mobile port, the game predating most smart phones, but an 800x600 resolution was already considered subpar by 2009 standards. Therefore, you can play a blurry, unappealing mess, or you can play in an unadjustable windowed mode with objects often being too tiny if you aren't running a low resolution on a large monitor. However, with any lack of replayability, you'll quickly move on to another game.
Verdict: ★★★☆☆ - "It's up to you."
Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy is a perfectly serviceable hidden object game if you don't mind the extremely outdated graphics. It isn't an adventure, it doesn't try to be anything other than what it is, but still includes a story to keep it together. I look forward to playing Midnight Mysteries: Salem Witch Trials next.

This was just my opinion.

This version of the game is not bad, however I can't enter full screen mode with this game for whatever reason would give it a 9 out of 10

Love it! Graphics are a bit dated, some HO scenes were hard to decipher, and no widescreen, but excellent story and atmosphere. Recommend!
