Hellpoint is a dark and challenging action RPG set in a heavily atmospheric sci-fi universe where the line between science and occultism is blurred. Once a pinnacle of human achievement, the Irid Novo space station has fallen. Its ruins are now overrun by cruel interdimensional entities acting as puppets of the malevolent Cosmic Gods. You have been created by the Author, organically printed on Irid Novo and sent on a mission to find out the unholy series of events that led to the catastrophic incident known as the Merge.

My favourite Souls-like game not made by FromSoftware.
Pros:
- The scale this game has far exceeds what I would have imagined a small team to be able to do.
- Combat feels good(occasionally a bit jank)
- Cool looking mobs, bosses and weapons
- Insanely cool atmosphere tying everything together
Cons:
- Prepare to get lost. Spent half the game trying to figure out where to go but some would say thats to be expected when playing a souls-like.
- Bosses felt a little weak. But that might have been because I spent half the game inadvertently farming trying to figure out where to go and out-levelled them...
- The odd stutter here and there but nothing that will noticeably impact gameplay unless you are running a much older system.(Don't expect FromSoftware levels of optimization)
Highly underrated gem of a game I hope more people gave a shot!
8.5/10

I love Hellpoint, it's my favorite Souls-like game not made by FromSoftware. I'd call it a 9/10 game.
It sounds like it was really buggy at launch but as of 2023 I can say I only hit a few bugs.
The good:
* swappable weapon upgrade chips is a brilliant idea, it really encourages you to experiment with different weapons
* the weapon variety is quite good and "weapon proficiency" is a cool concept
* level design is excellent as is the atmosphere of the world
* combat is fast and fluid
* sound editing is fantastic
* nice slow drips of lore, as you'd expect from a good soulslike
* plenty of build variety
* co-op is quite well executed
The bad:
* many bosses are just larger versions of regular mobs
* the base game is a little repetitive in the visual style of levels and enemy types, but the DLC definitely addresses this
* really would be nice if you could craft breach synchronizers later in the game (at least the DLC has a way to farm them)
* the final bosses are a bit spammy with ranged attacks, instead of having interesting attack patterns
Overall the game has a really cool dark scifi atmosphere, a ton of secrets to explore, and solid build variety and replayability.
Highly recommended!

honestly?
it's one of the best non-fromsoft souls likes in the regard that it feels a lot like dark souls 1 or demon souls. it's clunky, it has a bunch of little mysteries, the balance is wonky and there's clearly some loadouts that surpass others but. it has so much charm, it has a lot of neat worldbuilding, and the environment is gorgeous.
is it a good game? yeah honestly i'd say so.
is it a game most people would enjoy? no, but neither was demon souls.
if you really like souls-likes, i think give it a try without comparing it to others and you'll have a fresh and unique experience, if sometimes frustrating.
if you aren't super in to souls-likes but you're into games you really gotta struggle through, you'll also probably have a good time - the game is punishing and almost unfair at times, but there are ways gear-wise to make it easier, and if you explore (or get a co-op partner) you'll find a way through almost any gate that tries to block you.
tl;dr: lacks polish and has clear issues (with both balance, bugs, and gameplay decisions), but so did dark souls and everyone praises that game. it feels genuine and unique, and it's worth giving it a shot if you want that sense of mystery and difficulty that pioneered souls-like games.

This game was a blast to play through. It has its moments of deep lore, interesting bosses, and the important thing...customization. Many different play styles, weapons, armor, and more. If you are into souls-like games then this is worthy of your time.

This is how you make a game inspired by the souls series.
I am loving most aspects of this game. fans of deadspace, lords of the fallen and other titles should enjoy this gem of an amazing game.
the free aim controls for shooters feels nice and responds well, especially on teleporting enemies that the auto-target might change your movement as the camera field adjust.
the weapon skill system is paired nicely into the game
the omnicube is a genius addition both adding light and puzzles along with other useful utilities like warping without losing your stuff.
death has other penalties in addition to losing you acquired axioms a copy of you haunts the area for you to fight... your weapons and their bonuses as well.
there is so much i love about this game and so little i dislike but be ready it truly is hell while the game can be completed in various forms i would be impressed to see a "perfect ending" with a no hit run.

Splitscreen Sci-fi Dark Souls on a budget. Can you think of another souls-like splitscreen game?
Would hope to see double the assets in a future sequel.
