GRIP: Combat Racing is an exciting ride! If you're a fan of old-school games like Rollcage and Wipeout, you might enjoy it. Even better, as of 2023, it has improved immensely from when it first launched.
I was initially drawn to GRIP due to my fondness for Rollcage, and though it was a bit unpolished during its early release, it's remarkable to see how far the game has come. In 2023, the game is more streamlined and optimized, providing a thrilling racing experience.
My 10-hour venture into the game's campaign mode was both challenging and highly engaging (finishing the campaign). The tracks are intricately designed, offering multiple paths filled with daring shortcuts and perilous turns. There is a distinct emphasis on exploration and risk-taking. Understanding the best route to take on tracks was a fun, turning each race into a unique strategic puzzle.
As you play through the campaign, the game gets harder little by little, but it never stops feeling fun and rewarding. The way the cars move and flip around is a big part of that. It's a little tough to get the hang of, but really fun once you do.
I played the game on the Steam Deck with the power turned up a bit so it would run at 60FPS, and it played great.
One minor downside was the garage system. Since most cars and items were already unlocked from the start, there was less reason to revisit the garage. Moreover, the lack of comparative visualization between the current vehicle and a newly selected one makes it difficult to make informed decisions. But this was a minor issue in an otherwise fantastic gaming experience.
Overall, GRIP: Combat Racing is a really good time. If you like arcade combat racers, you should definitely check it out. It's fast, it's fun, and there's always a new challenge waiting around the next corner.

I bought GRIP during Fanatical's "Build Your Own Winter Bundle" for around $5 (along with other games), and it has been a blast. It's essentially Mario Kart except its much faster and more realistic. There a good selection of items, solid vehicle customization, tournament creation, and many other features.
The biggest issue I have are the physics. If you hit one small rock, you get sent to the shadow realm. The
re-spawn function helps, sure, but the fact that it happens is a little dumb.
Overall, GRIP is a fun, high-speed racing game to play with friends, or even by yourself. I recommend picking it up when you have the chance.

This game is great! If you're playing in VR exclusively. (IF YOU HAVE VR, BUY THE GAME RIGHT NOW AS IT IS RIDICULOUSLY FUN, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE, CONTINUE READING)
Ignore my time, I used to play on PS4, but finally bought this on steam because of the VR, and it was on sale.
Why did I say VR? Because this game requires way too much perfection at times, as you're driving with unique cars with unique tracks. For better or worse. When you're playing in front of a screen, it can be hard to see everything.
Sounds like it's not a big deal right? It can be. Notice I said "unique tracks for better or for worse"?
The tracks in this game are based on precision and unique path finding. Which is a pain if you aren't in VR, because you lack the depth perception required.
This game feels like it was exclusively made for only VR.
If you don't have VR, you may have a bad time.
If you do have a VR, this is probably one of the best racing games on the platform.

Imagine a racing game where you can be a spaceship/hover car or a car and the speed/reaction time gives you Wipeout vibes. Then combine that with missiles, shunting, machine guns etc like Mario kart. Then you get this game.
Great game on single races or playing through campaign ( career ) mode. There's a variety of event styles from death matches, duels to standard 2 lap racing.
One warning is that it's really fast and you kinda bounce around a lot.
Highly recommended.
Plays excellently on steam deck too for an added bonus

Combat racing game with super fast paced gameplay.
There is also an arena mode that places more emphasis in the combat aspect.
Great graphics at the time that still are great to watch.
Fairly decent selection of race tracks with a good, if generic and almost plot-less, campaign.
Decent techno sounndtrack to top it off.
VR compatibility is a plus.
Some mechanics are underutilized, such as jumping.
Vehicles could have used a little more variety in stats and attributes. I also feel that there could be more powerups available too.
Overall, still a very good game even at full price, and has very deep discounts when it goes on sale, which is often. 9/10

Obligatory for all Rollcage, Wipeout and Distance fans.
