Creepy Tale 3: Ingrid Penance
Creepy Tale 3: Ingrid’s Penance is a macabre interactive adventure filled with bizarre events and puzzles.
The story revolves around a capricious, spoiled girl named Ingrid. She steps on a loaf of bread to avoid getting her shoes dirty and tumbles all the way down to hell.
The underworld is teeming with creepy creatures. Some of them want to swallow little Ingrid whole, others want to torment her with never-ending nightmares, and still others want to turn her into a charming statue to impress their neighbors.
But, when it seems like Ingrid is doomed to perish in this infernal pit, she meets Molek, a talkative, sarcastic demon who has been watching her adventure with fascination. She has no choice but to trust the little demon. Who knows? He just might be the key to her redemption and a way home.
- Multiple endings Ingrid’s fate depends entirely on your choices and the actions you perform over the course of the entire game
- Gripping puzzles that incorporate a wide variety of mechanics
- An immersive, fully-voiced storyline with references to the works of Hans Christian Anderson, the Brothers Grimm, and other authors.

I thought Creepy Tale 3 was more creative than the first 2, but also much harder, and potentially even more frustrating, and that is saying something. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with making some challenging puzzles, but this game had many puzzles that had very strange solutions, I often felt like I was brute-forcing the game, just problems with consistency, problems with strict timing on the events, and sometimes just having very subtle hints. I literally solved one of the puzzles by using an item during what looked like another cutscene, and the game never established that was a thing. Granted, this game has a few puzzles that could be solved in multiple ways, so your experience could be different from mine.
If you play the game blindly it can easily take over 5 hours, and I also only got 11/33 achievements - with a neutral ending I assume. It seems to have some karma system this time, there are a lot of good and bad choices that you can make, with a decent amount of optional events, including many nice death animations and some hidden scenes. Once again I found the ending a bit disappointing, granted I assume you can get a better one, that said, for the most part the locations and characters were interesting, I really enjoyed the chapter with the Dentist. I do think this game is a lot more replayable than the second one, you literally can't see everything on the first playthrough, and if you want to see if those "points" do anything you will have to plan your route very well (a bit too extreme for my liking, but I guess it's there if you want to drop a lot of time in the game)
I think it's safe to say that this game had more content and animation in general, felt maybe 30% bigger than the last one, more animated scenes, bigger locations, more deaths, more everything. I will say that I felt like the game was lacking some consistency, there were chapters that were significantly more rewarding to play than others, I personally did not enjoy the castle puzzles, and I thought the timing was a bit annoying. There were still a lot of funny and disturbing moments, I think that is very much the main reason to play the game, just to see if it can surprise you - it's one of those games where it's actually fun to kill the character.
I would argue that controls could use a bit of work. This is the second Creepy Tale game that feels like an adventure game, and we still do not have a mouse interface. Not only that, all of the controls are on the left side of the keyboard, so I played the entire game with just my left hand (not sure if it's good or bad, I was using my right hand to eat some food the entire time, maybe they knew it would happen). I don't like that Q opens the inventory but also doubles up as interaction along with E, so when you close the inventory you press ESC, also with left hand.
Pros:
(+) The game has a lot more optional content than previous releases, I only got 11/33 achievements after beating it, and there are several puzzles that have multiple solutions so you would have to replay the game, probably 3 times to get most of the secrets and hidden scenes.
(+) The animation was pretty good as expected, it felt like you put at least 30% more effort than before just adding more detail and hidden events. Just like the last 2 games, you are probably motivated by killing your character every few minutes, and there are many fun ways to go about it.
(+) As far as the puzzles, it's a bit subjective, I do feel like you making puzzles that are a lot more complex and dynamic than many similar games, so in that sense, I feel like I should give you credit for it, but I am not sure if it makes it a better experience if they make me angry. The puzzles were pretty creative, even if they were not very logical in many cases.
(+) The game is voice acted somewhat decently. There were a few characters that maybe gave a bit too much performance, but for an indie game, I still think it's not bad. The surreal lore and world-building of the game were interesting, even if I did not enjoy the default conclusion.
Feedback:
Controls - once again no mouse interface even though it plays like any adventure game. You could add walking controls to arrows (have both WASD and arrows), just so you have a choice not to use the left hand the entire time. I think if the Q opens inventory, it should also close it instead of working as E also. I keep using left hand to press Q to open inventory and ESC to close, then why have E for interact if Q overlaps it.
Puzzles - the puzzle where you have to use an item during animation is too convoluted, there is nothing in the game that would suggest that it's possible. I think you should make the timing on the clock bridge a bit more forgiving, it's too easy to miss.
Ending - the ending that I got was not rewarding at all, I assume you can get other endings (maybe if you go all bad or all good), but man, you should have a decent ending no matter what you do, I just dropped 6 hours into the game for whatever that was. I did not like it, fight me.
Is there no way to select specific chapters?
Overall Thoughts: 8/10
I probably like this game more than the first 2, but not by much. Even if the game is challenging, I don't want to feel angry at the game, and I actually got pretty tilted with some of the solutions. I thought many of the puzzles were unfair, it just felt like a grind, and I am really not happy with what I assume is a neutral ending cuz I usually don't replay games (felt so short, give me a little more closure). Negatives aside, there were many cool moments with the visuals and I enjoyed the main character, I thought her reactions were very adorable. Personally, I think playing the whole game with a left side of the keyboard is a bit silly, or I should say I look very silly playing it.

With each new game, Creepy tale gets even crunchier, gaining immense self-confidence. And if the first game was a small and absolutely charming indie sensation, the sequel felt like a big step forward, then the third part is perceived as a big, big adventure. I may be wrong, but in terms of volume, it is approximately the same as the previous two games combined, and if you also take into account the number of different options for passing through the gameplay... This time, the main character is a capricious girl who loves herself so much that she forgot about surrounding, as a result of an accident (never step on bread, guys) ended up in a land of nightmares. Witches, some outlandish monsters, roads made of teeth, all this leads our heroine to salvation or the final fall. Having gone through misadventures with her, you really have to make a large number of choices, and this is where the game never ceases to amaze. A huge number of choices, many options for solving various game situations, I discovered some things only on the fourth playthrough. The game keeps its secrets tight, but the triumph of finding them is indescribable.
All decisions, forks and ways of passing here are not sewn for “She will remember this”, but significantly affect what is happening. The karma system, elegantly designed and unobtrusively woven into the game design, not only allows you to get different endings, but also allows the player to choose their own path, dig in search of non-standard solutions. Puzzles of varying difficulty do not let you get bored, their quality is already becoming a hallmark of this series of games. I just adore the visual, as for me, you can’t think of a better option for the appearance of a dark children’s fantasy. The voice acting quality is top notch, which is also typical for studio games. I like to see the evolution of talented creators, to see the expansion of their toolkit, to see the embodiment of some ideas that were not available to them in the first game, for example. They do not repeat themselves, they grow, and creepy tales grow with them. I really hope that the future game will also bring something new to us, and then, who knows, maybe we will see a new gaming universe? A wonderful adventure that I want to recommend to all lovers of dark stories. Play and get scared!

Creepy Tale 3: Ingrid Penance is a point and click horror themed game with great puzzle and a decent story about retribution.
Ah, good old Creepy Brothers. You may know them from their creepy tale's trilogy they made. Maybe you know their silly game Strike force Kitty. These guys are either making funny games or they go full depressive horror theme.
Gameplay / Story
You are Ingrid, a spoiled little kid who has such an attitude that getting her killed is more fun than helping her.
How to start here? You may want to read the first review I had about part two of this Tale, and it was great. This one is about hell, redemption, sins, being evil and being good at the same time. You start as a bad person, a girl who makes her mother cry and throws a loaf of bread on mud to use it as a bridge. God-damn, that was for your Nana! Your NANA!
You go through all the different stages of hell, starting in purgatory with two really hot chicks going to eat you, and once you are done with them Hell welcomes you to the court of owls. Too bad, you do not get Batman, there are only children getting their life sucked, and it's about you to save them or just ignore them. And here we are with the first issue I got. I have no clue where to find a clue to get the puzzle solved, I just tried every combination that was hard. It's almost as if the game wants you to be a bad person. The Puzzles, while they are fun to watch and give a great feeling once solved, the whole "How do I solve them?" section is nothing I can understand. So many puzzles that I got by sheer luck, it's outstanding how this worked for me. But the story kept me trying till it worked. The Sin and retribution mode was great, and the Tooth Lady still gives me shivering nightmares.
Pro
+ Graphic looks fantastic, the overall cartoon look suits the game
+ Sin and retribution system that changes dialogues and the ending.
+ The different hell stages are fantastic and almost poetic
+ there are optional puzzles you can and should solve
+ Amazing story about a girl being a brat and transforming to something stronger
+ it's your game, punish and hurt people or help them. People will judge you for that
+ connected to the events of creepy tale 2
+ a lot of graphical gory deaths
Contra
- some puzzles are simply too complicated (for me)
- the overall horror is reduced for the gore
Conclusion/ Who will enjoy the game?
Creepy Tale 3: Ingrid Penance offers an addictive game with a great story and a gory outcome to every mistake you do. It's almost a miss to not die by every way the developer build in. The Story is engaging, and the overall theme fits perfectly in the creepy tale saga.
So who will enjoy this game? Do you like point and click games with an engaging story? Loving to have some gore and horrifying deaths? Well then you found your game!

The shocking moment when you have to drop the bread into the puddle.

This is my favorite creepy tale game. There are definitely relatively random puzzles again, but that's what makes the series so charming. I recommend!
