Best new digital card game I’ve tried in the last three years. The game mechanics are refreshingly new and require you to make meaningful decisions all the time. The game is very well polished visually for an EA release, the UI is slick and clean, I like the art style, the lore is intriguing, and the developers are super friendly and responsive. I guess, I’ll be in this for the long haul.
Edit: I did have the chance to play this shortly before EA, so I have a few more hours in it than being shown here.

Causa, Voices of the Dusk is a challenging free to play CCG with beautiful aesthetics and unique mechanics that offer endless strategic possibilities.
The resource system is what makes this game stand out from all the other CCG's.
You must sacrifice cards to raise your Cause, but you can use those cards again later on in the battle, this makes planning ahead essential so choose wisely.
Each turn you'll have 4 cards to choose from, 2 for attacking and 1 to sacrifice.
Choosing the cards all depend on the amount of Cause that you have unlocked, and the tactic you have in mind for the battle later on.
Unlocking Cause also rewards you with special leader abilities which can change the game around to your advantage, this makes for intense battles.
You can play the campaign and earn special rewards or battle against other players, friends or AI.
I personally thought the campaign was a bit too hard for beginners.
There is also a ranked mode which you gain by playing against others and this mode rewards you with items at the end of each season.
Secretly there is something I enjoyed even more than the game itself...
The music is so stunning and it's perfectly fitting with the theme of the game!
If there was a DLC with the soundtrack I would definitely buy it.
In all honesty, I normally wouldn't play these kind of games but since it's FREE I gave it a try and turned out to be a lot of fun.

Causa, Voices of the Dusk Review
Good things
This is a good card game. The tutorial is made into 5 episodes but I would like it to be even bigger to explain a few things I didn’t know at start. Don’t get me wrong tutorial teach you how to play and it shows you that this game is easy to play but hard to master. While there exists campaigns you can buy for a resources in game and play them I think the meat of the game is in player vs player and creating your own custom made deck. And oh boy there are so many cards to pick from and so many ways to build your deck. I had been playing using mostly Glory deck and while I was playing against other players I have seen many people and many decks and each deck was unique so I think you are only limited by your imagination and tactic. I myself tried out 5 different decks build with Glory deck and I know there are more combinations than that. You build a deck using 30 cards but there are 250 cards in the game right now and if I’m correct you can only have 2 identical cards so most of the time you will pick 15-20 cards you like to create a deck of 30 cards. Only once I have waited for 2 minutes for a pvp match but most times it is 2-15 seconds to find someone, also in right top corner you see “Player searching game” and that means that there are people that want to pvp so it is easy to just jump in. What is different that other cards games is that you don’t have to attack enemy cards you can attack enemy hp from the start and that gives you more tactical options because you must choose if you want to deal dmg to enemy hp or maybe destroy some of his strong cards. Also you can’t just spam cards as max you can have 4 characters cards and 4 support cards on the table so you have to pick what to play and when to use what support. There are also a ton of things to unlock like leaders, cards, card backs, backgrounds, banners, avatars and titles. Casual pvp is fun but there is also a grayed out “ranked” and that means some hardcore ranked pvp games will be added in the future and it shows that developers want to improve game in the future.
Bad things
To play you need to create an account and there is no option to just log in with your Steam account and I know that can be a deal breaker for some people. Also as the game is mostly focused on player vs player it can also be a deal breaker for some people.
Important things about the game
Tutorial teach you how to play but I think it should also explain many things that I had to learn by trial and error and these are the things I will point out here as they are important to get better in the game. There are resources like gold, organite and soul ember. You can use gold or organite to unlock campaigns and soul ember to craft cards. You also get card packs for doing campaigns. There are also daily and season quests that give you resources for doing them. There are 4 leaders to start with so 4 card decks – glory, wealth, influence, spirit but there are also neutral cards that can be used with any deck. It is important for you to learn what color means what deck so when you open packs of card you will know for what deck you got cards. While there are neutral cards and 4 main decks if you click on “collection” you will see that there are also 6 other decks that are a mix of 2 other colors/decks. So that mean there are many many ways to build your decks but you need the right leader for each deck. By playing you get xp for the deck type you are using and your total power level is all your levels in 4 deck types together.
Conclusion
Easy to play and hard to master. Get this game if you like card games and you can invest enough time to build a good deck and to learn how to be good.

I have played a large variety of card games over the last 20+ years, and not very many keep my attention or interest for very long. Causa, however, immediately captured my attention, and I fell in love with the game the first day playing it. The unique system of putting your own cards into a "reserve pile" for later use AS a mana/cost system is amazing and creates so many different levels of strategy, not just with how each game itself is played, but also in how you build your deck!
The graphics, animations, and music are all BEAUTIFUL and really well done, creating a distinct world.
Also, the amount of passion, energy, and focus that the development team puts not only into the game itself, but also fostering and growing the community that is playing the game, is going to help keep Causa going for a long, long time to come.

Beautiful game. Lovely art and a truly excellent soundtrack. Game mechanics are perhaps not quite as unique or unprecedented as the description would make it out but they're certainly functional. I haven't played enough of the game to be able to properly comment on balance yet although one thing that immediately stands out with these mechanics is that aggressive decks are likely going to dominate everything else. Any CCG which fully replenishes your hand at the start of the turn tends to suffer from this problem and the few matches I've played so far certainly suggest this game is no exception.
Another issue with the game right now is that you can't immediately jump into a campaign after completing the tutorial. Even the Apprentice campaign requires a good amount of resources to unlock which is for sure going to rub people the wrong way.
Granted, all of these resources can be accumulated in game from playing but it's still a bad business decision that is going to give the game the appearance of being greedy. I would recommend at least the initial campaign to simply be free.
Aside from that, the game seems well worth a try.

I have waited until the end of the beta to make this review, to follow close the development of the project, so I have a lot to say. First of all, Causa have captivated me since the origin because was very different to all card games we have, it have 3 big differences to them:
1) First and more important, is not a game gated to the "mana system" cards have not mana costs, the game works by "Levels" of a different source, the Causa Pile, this pool of resources is filled with cards you "sacrifice" from your hand or board, and the actual "costs" of the cards are the "Plays per turn", you can play cards from your hand or the same Causa Pile if they have same or lower Level requirement than the amount of cards in your Causa, those cards expends Plays, so normally you can play up to 2 cards per turn, but a lot of them give you more plays to chain combos between them and make fun and smart strategic moves.
2) The draw mechanic to get resources here change too, it doesn't matter how many cards you have in your hand at the start of the turn, you always draw up to 4, if you already have 4 or more, then you draw only 1. This *turbo* draw mechanic make the game never get boring points, you always have things to do, because your hand always have a good amount of cards to play. In addition to this, you can play card you have put in your Cause Pile, this make it work like a secondary Hand, know you can put cards in this pile to play them after adds a new component to the strategy. All this ways to get resources influence the game since the deckbuilding, consolidating your gameplan and make you know your resources well to know when and how to play them.
3) The last point are the Leaders: Causa is based on carismatic characters you choose when you make a deck, this Leaders have color/s and determine what color/s you can use in your deck. In addition to this, Leaders have "Decisions", those are specific abilities you can choose (and depend totally of the Leader you are playing) when you reach specific Causa Level's. This component add more depth to the Deckbuilding, there's more than 1 Leader per color, but his decisions are totally different between them, Play a color don't determine your strategy, you can mold your deck according to your playstyle thanks to them and this is a great point about the fun.
Now about the game experience knowing all this things that make the game unique, is really innovative and fun, you can test a lot of things, you are not gated to have just one gameplan or strategy, and can test a big amount of gameplays even with the "Intro Content" of the game, we have 350 cards, but we have 18 Leaders at our disposal, and maybe little changes on your deckbuilding can satisfy better what you want for your gameplan, you can change your leader, or your cards, you can try more than 1 or 2 gameplays in a color, or start to be creative with the Faction Leaders (Leaders than able to build dual-colored decks) in the upcoming update.
The game also suffer from some things cardgames are never free, the balance between all the aspects of the game is a bit hard, balance cards in addition to the interactions between them or between the different leaders sometimes make the gamestate a little opresive for some decks, but the balance team is very into it trying their best to make fun enviroments.
This last point is also helped by an interesting system: "The Ranked Bonus", in the Ranked Queue the leaders with less potential than the best ones have bonus point when you win with them, so you can choose play decks that are not the best of the meta, and still climb in ranks, this Leaders with bonus are gonna be in constant changes depending on how the metagame changes, this feature is a very interesting point in the direction of the game, showing the dedication that developers have to keep the game enviroment fun and fluent, trying to avoid moments when the metagame is oppresed/satured of the same strategies.
The game also have a Free Campaing mode, a PvE enviroment where you make your deck in a draft, those campaings have different difficulties, but the same rewards, you can only get the rewards once in each of them, but the replay value because the draft mechanic make it a great place to test and learn about the game, never both campaing games are the same due to this.
About the Resources of the game, is very healty, you can buy cards and leaders with in-game currency or hard-currency, the in-game one is the gold, you get it playing, doing daily and weekly missions, playing the different colors, and even playing ranked, also the Base and Premium Battlepass are going to be impremented with the launch, so we have another source to get rewards. Planning in what you want to buy first between Cards and Leaders is a little uncomfortable, but it is possible to do, the game rewards you a lot for playing it, and you don't need to put money to get all (and the hard-currency prices I think are cheap vs some competitors), obiously there's a grinding path for this and you can speed up using real money, but get all is archivable. There's also the "Community Decks", decks proposed by the community that you can play for free even if you don't own the cards, you can use them to test leaders or cards, know if your playstyle fits with them, and those decks also can be played versus custom ones on ranked and can compete vs them.
I have played a lot this game and learning about it, and have a lot of potential, there's still features I want and I'm waiting for, like the Draft on PvP, more and challenging campaings or better ways to get the Leaders (a very important gameplay feature of the game), but I trust in the direction that the devs have with the game, I'll recommend it a lot.
